I very very rarely eat steak. My favourite cut is the second most expensive fillet. I prefer a fairly thick steak, up to 2cm uncooked. I only need to be able to cook one steak as I fly solo. Some hints would be good. From the reviews it sounds great.

better to contact Sunbeam and get a replacement.
thank you Kanya I should have done that but ended up throwing it out buying another brand which still smelt I then washed and turned it on and off for almost 6 hours in a vented space and finally the toxic smell went apparently it has to burn of the chemicals used on it. Thanks agin for taking time to respond!

I have a Sunbeam cafe press GR8400, when you switch on the powerpoint the press is not heating up, the green light is not lighting up. Do you know what the problem is?

Sounds faulty to me. I recommend ringing Sunbeam helpline on this one as you may need replacement or repair
Look at bottom of these reviews/posts for Sunbeam representative & phone number & official comment
Try another power point. If still not working the fault could be in the plug and if it still doesn't work, it sounds like the fault is within the griller and a Service Dept job

Why doesn't it toast both sides?
1 answer
It does, but with the'rippled' top plate it only toasts in stripes for want of a better description. But I have never found this to be a problem.
If you want the top of your sandwich to look all-over toasted, the same as the bottom, flip it over

Is there no on off switch???
1 answer
No, its controlled at the power point, which I haven't found to be a problem. I guess as the casing gets very hot they didn't want people burning themselves groping for a switch.
It has a thermostat that cuts the power on and off so the sandwich heats through
Tofumeatasked
Can you grill steak and chicken on this?

Hi Tofumeat,
This product has 2000W of power and the temperature of the plates is high enough to sear and cook meat such as chicken or steak. Please note that the contact plates are flat and not ribbed.
