Hi, I have just brought the EM0700! 1st one worked fine for about 3 weeks. Then chute blocked. Cleaned then went again, making sure grind collar was in same position as when I took apart to clean. It blocked up 2 more times. Took it back and Hn's replaced. Started again same thing happened after very first grind. Is there something wrong with 2 brand new grinders or is there something I am not doing?

Thank you,

David

Hello David,
To get the best results from your EM0700, we do advise that if the coffee grinder is used frequently (every
day), the burrs need to be cleaned every three weeks to ensure best performance of the coffee grinder. Regular cleaning helps the burrs achieve consistent grinding results, which is especially important when grinding coffee for espresso. Tips for cleaning your EM0700:
- Do not immerse the motor base of the coffee grinder in water.
- Do not immerse any part of the grind cartridge in water or any other liquid.
- Do not place any parts of the coffee grinder in the dishwasher.
- Do not use abrasive cleansers or scouring pads.
- Wash the bean hopper in warm soapy water, then rinse and let completely dry.

Try and get the grinding parts as dry as you can before grinding to avoid and blockage occurring.

Hello again to Sunbeam customer care. My question has not really been answered! As advised I have ALREADY been cleaning the said grinder. My question (again) is how does this machine (brand new to note) clog up on the very first grind?

Thank you in advance,

David

Yes I am getting the same issue with an EM0700 - had been working fine for some years, now it's like the grounds don't get sent down the chute. Have cleaned well as per manual but still doing it. Seems strange the grounds can't be pushed out the hole for the chute....any clues on how to remedy very much appreciated!

I had trouble finding one locally myself.
I ended up getting one from the Sunbeam Factory Outlet (110 Botany Rd, Alexandria NSW 2015) when I went to Sydney.

Hi we just purchased an EMO700 grinder and end up with more coffee on the bench than in the group head, anyone have an idea how to stop this happening?

I was having the same issue, but on revising how much I actually dose into the group head, I have much less messy waste.
Before I used to try and cram as much in there as physically possible, so grinding a mound, then partially tamping it down and grinding more on top again (this is when most went on the bench).
Now I have reduced the grind size and stop grinding when the coffee gets just over the top of the group head, 90% less coffee on the bench.
Less waste and better coffee. That's my experience.

Had this thing for about a week now, tried to grind just above setting 25 (27 or thereabouts) and it suddenly stopped letting any ground coffee through. Took the whole thing apart, cleaned it as per the manual, still doesn't work. I can hear the burrs inside grinding away, but no movement in the beans and nothing coming through at all. The top area near the hopper is warm. Really sad. Any help?

Hi, have you opened the hopper lever, located on the side of the hopper?

Hi thanks, it tuned out there was coffee jammed inside the chute and hardened (why? After only 2 weeks usage??) when eased out with the brush it started working again. I also recalibrate the collar as it had become ridiculously tight on the finer settings. This seems to have fixed it for the moment. But yes, I did initially take the tip off and clean out the burrs and reachable areas. Sunbeam phone gelpnperson said it might be caused by oily beans /atmospheric moisture

HI. My kitchenaid burr grinder just gave up the ghost this morning after 9 years of faithful service. Looking at your comments about this one I wonder if it is a good replacement. The initial fuss - was it worth it and was it easy, are the instructions clear?

I'd buy another one. I like everything about it except the spray of grounds it sends out if you're filling the group handle. Start-up issues were caused by Sunbeam Suppport, not the machine.

Hi I just bought the EM0700 last weekend and tried out different level settings. Between the finest 0 and the coarsest 30, I can't see any difference at all. Rubbed the coffee in between fingers, also can't feel any difference. Is this right?

I cant say really - although I find it is often hard to distinguish grind size by feel. I have ground beans on the coarsest setting on the EM0700 and found them still a bit too fine for plunger coffee makers. On the other hand, I find once you have settled in to a suitable grind size for a particular brand or roast, it needs no more than a single click left or right for a noticeable change to delivered shot quality from my (equally reliable) Rancilio Silvia.
If you attempt that re-calibration process (see the user manual), it will quickly confirm or not whether the grind-set adjustment is active.
My EM0700 is now 2+1/2 years old and grind setting has only been re-zeroed once since the initial setup described in earlier posts.
My only (rather trifling) complaint about the machine is that you have to keep the discharge zone very clean or it will collect sticky grounds that spray coffee around. (My bad.)
Otherwise it remains rock solid reliable at a production level around 40 to 50 double shots per week. That's about 5000 cups of coffee to date!

My EM0480 finally refused to grind fine enough and I could not fit anymore shims on it so I, reluctantly bought an EM0700. I have a problem getting the right grind, it seem to vary a lot. Unfortunately, in fiddling around with it I have now lost the original factory setting. Does anyone know to to find this i.e. the starting position of the base ring that the top ring fits onto?

I am away from home but my recollection is you can simply set the gauge to zero & move the clearance in until you can hear contact occur between the burr and the millstones. That's zero.
The technique is described in the user manual that comes with the machine.
Hope this helps

Thanks Don. I couldn't find the getting it back to zero in the book and didn't realise it is really when the base wheel will go no further. I've gone through an awful lot of coffee but I think I've got the setting right now. There is certainly more room for adjustment on this than the 480.
Thanks again.

I have the Sunbeam EM0480 grinder and am fed up with the constant mess from it. Does anyone have an issue with the EM0700?

A friend of mine had the same issue but now its working fine. Sold my 480 a year ago due to the mess it made and bought a Breville Smart Grinder. No problems after a year.

I also had a 480 and replaced it with a smart grinder due to the static fly-away grinds all over the place. The smart grinder worked faultlessly. Buying a EM7000 for work, I thought I'd give the matching grinder the benefit of the doubt. Bad mistake, same problem. Not a major if you have a cafe bench I suppose but a daily pain anywhere else. I would not buy another sunbeam grinder until the grind mess is sorted,.

I have the Sunbeam EM0480 which I bought as a cheaper alternative to the Rancilio Rocky my ex got to keep. It grinds ok, but came here looking for a solution to the mess issue, which wasn't an issue with the (slightly slower) Rancilio.

I am now reminded of the solution we employed with our first grinder, a lightweight little plastic thing which put the grinds into a plastic cup - which were then transferred to the portafilter manually. Sometimes you wound up with leftovers, but generally I'd just have a couple of short stabs at grinding till I got there.

Seems like a bit of a fuss, and I'm half-inclined to flog the Sunbeam and just invest in the Rocky - the doserless one is compact, maybe a little quieter than the Sunbeam and HEAPS tidier. Doesn't have the little auto-button, but otherwise no complaints.

No mess using mine.

The EM480 mess problem when dosing to group handles was fixed with its extension nozzle modification. My EM0700 was super clean when new but does now make a very fine overspray after putting thru' maybe 12kg of beans. I attribute this to accumulation of sticky coffee grounds inside delivery chute. It's not a big enough deal to make obsessive machine cleaning worthwhile. Coffee's a messy business overall, needing a Chux wipe every sesssion. Get over it.
