I would suggest you contact sunbeam themselves. I know they have an outlet near Redfern in Sydney--maybe in other states as well. Sorry I can't be more helpfull.

Is it so wrong to use paper filters as were always used with old Sunbeam.....what would be the problem?

I would put the filter paper into the mesh filter as when the paper filter becomes wet it may press against spring, preventing it from opening causing your coffee to run over the top. But unless your mesh filter is stuffed, why would you bother

Can not see how you seperated the spring bit from the filter, as it seems a moulded shape, but that aside the little nob that sits inside the filter is held inside with a plastic washer, if you have that washer, are you putting it on the wrong side ie, the side the water flows from, rather than the side you put the coffee beans in

I'm very talented at pulling things apart that I shouldn't basically. it's a skill my partner loves. Looks like I'll order a new one ...or at least the part. thanks

Love this machine, but it leaks from the bottom somewhere, any ideas where and how to fix?

Dear Susan,
Really unsure what the bottom means, as in you pick up the macine and there is a pool of water underneath. Or perhaps there is coffee spilage on the heating element. Maybe non of the above.
If there is a pool of water under the machine, is the top lid (the one you open to put in the coffee beans) closing properly. If only slightly ajar. The steam from the boiling water would find its way out condensate and drip down the side of the coffee maker. Hence the pool.
If you are getting coffee dripping onto the warming plate. The two baskets inside the machine, the one that the filter sits into you will notice has a spring, when pressure is applied from underneath, ie the pot is reteurned to the tray. The spring lifts causing the shutter to lift and the coffee drips through. Check that to see if something is not stuck in there causing it to remain open, would only be minute to cause grief even for example when you where washing up and a half grain of rice got stuck in
If water is leaking from the reservoir when you just pour it in and not even turn the machine on. Then you have a seal problem. The side of which would be damp, dry off to try and locate whence it ids leakinh from. Other than a small bit of water proof tape on the outside is all that could be done. Any liquid sealers could seep into the machine and make you sick. Having said that, as water thins when it heats. You may still have a seal problem that only shows itself when making a cup. So again dry the machine then holding paper towl against the side locate the wet spot and best of luck.
Hope was of these was a bingo moment for you

I am having the same problem. It is actually coffee that is pooling beneath the machine. Sometimes it works great and other times it leaks. Each time it leaks the top hole where the coffee is supposed to drip has coffee in it suspended by surface tension so all I can think is that the coffee is being made faster than it can drip into the pot and its overflowing. I might try cutting the drip holes at the top a bit larger to better cope.

My machine won't pump the water through. Lights are on but nothing happening. Happened all of a sudden. Any way to fix?

Hi Marea,
I am assuming, by your question. That the water is not coming from the reservoir at the back and onto the coffee you have placed in the filter. First thing is it would be unlikely there would be a pump, as the water boils it rises. So more likely you have a blockage. This often happened to a perculator l owned. If you open up where the filter is. You will find about six holes where the water would run through, try cleaning with a pin, also if you fill the machine up with water and turn on as if to make a coffee.. The arm that comes across which has those 6 holes should be warm from the boiling water, if not the blockage, if thats what it is may be in the white pipe that runs up inside the tank. If however the water doesn't seem to be heating thats fatal i think.
Just other thoughts, you haven't accidentally hit the program button, as in to make it come on at a set time, it may now be waiting for you to put in the start time. And finally, one time l went to turn mine off i hit the start button twice instead of the one time and that threw it a bit, but unplugged it for a while and it reset itself.
Hope was able to find the solution for you

Yes the coffee beans do have to be ground. Have found that most of the roasted coffee beans that you purchase are avaliable as whole bean or already ground.

I have just bought this machine and have a question, the water outlet does not line up with the hole in lid. Which then causes the water to spill out and over flow, some going down the side holes but some going on to the hotplate. Is this normal or do I have a dud?

Hi Steff...no I don't have that problem at all....I suggest you take it back....kind regards,Mary

Hi Peter
With my replacement i contacted sunbeam who then ordered it and sent it to a local service agent, had to wait 2-3 weeks and then go and pick it up once it arrived - it costs $29 - that why this time i decided to buy it form BigW for $59 to save the hassle.

We bought the drip filter coffee maker about 14 months ago. We have had problems with the machine from almost day one. First we found that it is impossible to brew 10 cups because the grounds basket overflows water goes everywhere. Secondly, it now has stopped pumping boiling water into the grounds basket. Lots of steam but no water. Does this suggest that there may be a blockage that is restricting the flow of water into the boiling chamber? If so does anyone know how to fix this problem?

This was given to me as a gift but im unsure as to how much coffee grind to put in the basket. Ive tried putting in a 3/4 basket but that resulted in an overflow and the grind to also end up inside the pot. can anyone tell me how much to put in please?

3 answers

HI, I have obtained a new replacement machine and the overflow is not a problem any more.
There is still the the low temperature of the coffee though.
I now use both the supplied basket and a paper filter in it. I am able to make a presentable cup of coffee using only 1 measure per cup of water, as the paper filter restricts the water flow sufficiently to allow adequate infusion of the grounds. The recommended measure is 2 measures per cup!!!!! This is ridiculously expensive (and wasteful) in coffee use.

Try replace the netting filter with paper filter for better flavour. Usually for 2 standard mugs, I would fill water for 4 cups and add 4-5 scoops of coffee grind. Don't understand about the overflow but be mindful make sure paper filter is sitting well as it might get folded in n the water might miss the grind. Hope this well.
