Great Engine as long as it’s had exhaust valve stem seal update
2019 Suzuki DF4-5-6A
Suzuki have a product recall and predelvery modification on 2016-20 4-5-6hp engines!
They remove the exhaust valve stem seal! My DF5A has done 36hrs and oil filter change was done at 20.5hrs and going awesome! The only issue I have seen personally is mine wasn’t getting full throttle, I adjusted throttle cable on carbureter side and now what a difference my Zodiac 2.4m with aluminium bottom gets up and planes. Hope this helps all others x

Broken down again
The issues started with good old water in the fuel...
Now to get around the anchorage I have to remove the float bowl then pump fuel through the system at least four pumps on the fuel bulb before reassembling the carb.
This will get me to shore and back then I have to do the whole process again so in essence once every nautical mile.
The dealer insists its not the fuel pump but some other issue. I just think the thing is a dog and has been since I got it.
Oh and the engine has a grand total of 13 hours on it. So no high hours previous owners etc this is a new item.
Wish I had purchased a Yamaha now.
Purchased in for $1,800.

Buyer beware! The 2018 Suzuki DF6A engines have problems with their valves
We have a 2018 DF6A that has had four failures with the exhaust valve sticking shut, if it is stored for longer than a few weeks. It went to the Authorized Suzuki shop, where they disassembled the powerhead and replaced both valves, springs rockers push rods, plus the cylinder head. Even though the whole valve train and cylinder head was replaced, we still have the same problem. We service the engine according to the Suzuki schedule, and use Suzuki lubricants, tune up kit, and use a fuel stabilizer. I know of four or five other of these sam...
Read moree engines having the same problem with their valves. Suzuki service in California will not admit to a defect, and has been zero help. We only have about 30 hours on the engine, and it will be going out of warranty in October. The Suzuki dealer has not been returning calls during the virus. It was supposed to go Back into the shop on April 6, but they were closed down, due to the Corona Virus, and not answering the phone. I like the engine, when it will start, but it is unreliable, and always down. I would give it ZERO stars, If I could, for poor service. Suzuki actually hung up on us, and would not call us back. I believe they know of the issues, but have not sent out a recall to correct the problem. I believe it is a corrosion problem between the valve stem and guide, due to using materials that are not compatible for marine service.Purchased in for $1,400.

Not boating better
Motor has done less than 20 hrs but sat in shed for 2 years. Took in for service and told I required a new carburetor as there was a problem with this model at a cost of $265 plus fitting. Suzuki should have told customers of this fault and replaced at their expense not mine. Would not buy another!

Questions & Answers
Are the 2020 onwards DF6 motors now ok and this problem has been resolved or should I buy a Yamaha?
Your good to go! Suzuki have rectified the issues on later builds from 2020 onwards! I’ve done over 150hrs now on my 2018 and it goes better than my mates new 2022 6hp Yamblo! Hope this helps
Have a 2818 Suzuki DF6A, that has had four failures with exhaust valves sticking open or closed during storage of a month or so. Went in for warranty repair, and all valve components and cylinder head were replaced. Still have the SAME issues. Does Suzuki have a problem here? Is there a recall, or do I just have a lemon? Engine is serviced with Suzuki lubricants and parts, 3 times with only 30 total hrs on engine, because we can’t keep it running.
G'day Rod, seems to me these motors have a few faults, but company response usually the same old line bad fuel. The motors always have problems when in storage, you would think the manufacturers would...
Read more address this problem in the design stage but there is more $$$ in malfunction. And $$$ is the bottom line. Good Luck with it, Trout.Yea, the servicing dealer, first words out of their mouth, “you used the wrong fuel, carb is bad, not under warranty”. I already knew the problem, as I had pulled the valve cover. I told them to kee...
Read morep looking, and they came back with bad exhaust valve and cylinder head. They replaced both valve trains down to the tappets, and I still have the same issue. I run the engine dry, and drain the float bowl, and do a fresh water flush, before I put it up. I leave the engine on top dead center, but then, when I go to re start, valve will be frozen shut, and will result in a bent push rod. I have seen several other posts on online forums, where others are having the same issues. My fuel is always fresh, and has a stabilizer/ethanol treatment, so it’s not a maintenance issue. I hope Suzuki will own up to the problem, otherwise I’m going to have to throw the engine away and get a Yamaha. I think these small Suzuki’s are lemons. A dogs garage. Thanks for responding Mate,RodG, I've same valve sticking problem on my df6. Service told me that after every using pull the starter rope until feeling stress. As you know, this is the carb. valve is completely closed position....
