It's comfy, nice to drive and that's where it ends.

I'm one of those suckers that have the J24B engine (2.4L petrol). Nice little unit that's prone to head cracking between moulding ports. It's taken me 4.5 years (and way too many mechanics) to figure out why it's been wanting coolant topped up every month.

Basically I have that fault (Can I attach photo's here, I have one of a nice creamy coffee substance on the inside of my oil cap!).

I'm going to raise hell with this one, even though I have a nice new Unbreakable lined up for pick up in a few days, It's called a dump & run!

An expensive throw away car

published

Bought a 2006 with less than 180, 000 kms on it, after a month of driving, started making a knocking noise in the motor. Was told it was a timing chain and quoted $3000 to fix it. Got rid of it and bought a 2007 trecker. That's just clocked 80, 000 and now has a big end bearing on the way out. I have owned seven suzuki 4wds, five of them pre 2000, and couldn't fault them. These last two are absolute over priced rubbish.

French Diesel Engine

published

The Diesel Grand Vitara has a lot going for it conceptually. Good size, comfortable, capable off road but an unfortunate non Japanese choice in engines. I have had injector, and drive problems costing several thousands. While it's running gear is off road capable I wouldn't venture far from help mechanically with this poor choice of diesel motor by Suzuki.

Me again retracting my criticism of the Renault Diesel injectors. I foolishly filled up with petrol not diesel. The injector engine warning worked well. Sorry Suzuki.

i have a 2010 grand vitara v 6 3..2 for 6 years no problem, what you need to do it need to change oil every 5000 km and warm up your engine before you take it out, use good oil no cheap oil and your suzuki grand vitara last forever, 1 driving experience great on the snow .good traction, the interior a bit small but ok for 5 persons the dashboard are at hand reach for everything the leg room great, the fuel on local a bit high on highway better, the engine with a v6 so cool with the power, and so quiet when running I recommend any person wish to buy a SUV go for the V6 GRAND VITARA PETRO you will love it

How can everything be so wrong with a five year old car. We replaced shockers, wheel bearings, starter motor, major exhaust problems still, mechanic still cant identify current running problems, surging, losing power intermittently, leaking power steering, cruise control and CD player not working.

Noisy engine
Shame back seats don't lay flat down when folded down

Nothing but trouble!

I have a 2009 Grand Vitara-comfortable drive, good fuel economy-however- despite low kilometres, full log book servicing at 75 000km have had to have the cam shaft replaced, both rear and front crank shaft seals replaced. Other seals and hoses are weeping and also need replacing. Car has been in northern Australia for most of its life. Terrible treatment from Suzuki Australia when car under warranty. Very distressing.unreliable, expensive to fix. Will never buy a Suzuki again!

Don't buy a Vitara!!!

2008 Grand Vitara cracked block at 120,000km and 6 years old in November 2014.
Well looked after and serviced, never off road and Suzuki doesn't want to know and won't help!
I loved the car but after such poor treatment from Suzuki Australia and a car needing a new engine at such a young age I will never ever ever buy another Suzuki again.

Just bought my second Grand Vitara Prestige. Bought 2006 model new which has been passed on to my son. 235000 km and still going like a gem. My son loves it! great family car. Nine years old and travelled all conditions. Air-conditioner just chucked it in, but after surviving Australia's harsh outback conditions, 47 degrees for half the year, pretty good I think.

awesome 2002 2.5l manual

published

Full chassis little 4x4. Not a soft roader like the new ones. Awesome little 4x4 goes real good for what it is. Not bad on fuel and I am terrible for economy. Little narrow bodied for bulky kids seats so three adults in the back would be a tight squeeze. Cheep to look after with timing chain not a firm believer in timing belts myself. Quite capable in the bush. With xrox and side sliders and a 40mm lift will be real good off road. Shift on the fly Auto hubs work smoothly. All in all a great car.

Excellent vehicle

Purchased a new Vitara v6 auto petrol AWD in 2005 and have done 50000 kms, and it still looks like a new vehicle. It's performance is fantastic and road holding and cornering ability outstanding. Driving position is just right and pick up from a standing position very quick. Have it serviced twice yearly from private mechanic and have never had a problem in all this time. Dealership servicing was too expensive, and unreliable. Running costs are What you would expect, a pleasant surprise after owning a challenger which was far more expensive and like a truck to drive. Can't pick a fault with Vitara, roomy handles well and is always reliable and affordable. What more could you ask?

Probably got neglected while under warranty as Suzuki service under warranty only extends to oil and filter changes. If they do pull something apart check the bolts as half the time they either forgot to torque the bolts properly or did not put them all back. Get a service manual on CD/DVD and learn to do your own service and maintenance. Japanese made Suzukis are good cars and will go for 500k+ on original engine and gearbox as long as they are maintained by the book, unfortunately you won't get that from dealers as they would rather sell you a new car then look after the one they already sold you.

I have a Grand Vitara 2015 model and have noticed the boot doesn't unlock when the drivers door is unlocked. If I want to put something in there I have to make sure doors are closed, lock the car and then unlock it again with a double click. Am I missing something? It has to be easier. Also can you open the boot with the key?

i have the 2013 grand vitara prestige so not sure if it is different but if you want all doors to open you click the button on the handle twice, (or the remote twice) same with the rear door if you click it once it will only open the rear door, if you click it twice it will open all doors :)....no you cant use a key in read door (unless it might be different to your model)
