Chlorine aftertaste

published

It has a strong chlorine aftertaste not just to me but to all I’ve offered it to.
Very unpleasant really.
Some reviews have suggested stevia as a sweetener and thus the offensive taste, but it doesn’t mention this in the list of ingredients …so what is it?

Purchased in at La Vida Vegan Perth WA for $5.95.

never again

18 bucks at the iga, 10 for the same product at Aldi. Leaves a horrible during and after taste and made my daughter chuck. Won’t be waisting my money on this brand again. Tastes like raw chocolate flavoured pea purée.

Purchased in at Drakes for $18.

Reasonable flavour

published

Nice and Smooth but flavour could be improved. Reminds me of cooking chocolate, but it does taste like chocolate, just needs a different sweetener. However, it is a good substitute if you can't have any nuts as in my case, because the packet claims to be made on machinery without traces of nuts and I haven't had any reactions like I do to other chocolate.

Purchased in at Coles.

Lose the stevia!

published

Errgh. This chocolate could be good if it weren't for the stevia. The maltitol alone should suffice as a sugar substitute but the disagreeable aftertaste of stevia just ruins the product. My kids hated this chocolate and I wasn't far behind!

Stevia sugar substitute is even sweeter than sugar!!

published

I would have thought that a company that boasts on its chocolate bar packaging to being "96% Sugar Free" and containing "no added sugar" would be aiming to produce chocolate that is much less sweet than its competitors. That is not the case with this chocolate bar. After trying it for the first time recently, both my daughter and I found it to be sickeningly sweet. We checked the ingredients and found that the sugar substitute called 'Stevia' had been used in place of sugar. This gives the chocolate a sweetness akin to icing sugar. Its horrible.

Ugh

published

Granted, it is 'smooth' but it tastes like a combination of soy milk and sunflower oil. It only gets worse with the aftertaste.

Great vegan alternative

published

If you enjoy soy milk you’ll enjoy this product. It is a tasty blend of cocoa and soy four with added raw cane sugar. Leaves a lingering after taste of soy but nothing that would deter me from buying again. $3.10 for a 100g pack at woolies which I guess will put you off over eating - not a bad thing - but definitely pricey for quantity.

This is seriously nice chocolate!

Now that I can't do diary nor soy this is the best option open to me to get my chocolate fix. I found it to be every bit as delicious as the milk chocolate equivalent. The one sweetened with stevia is even better!

Mout foul thing I have ever put in my mouth

published

Not one of the Sweet William products on the market is worth anyone's time. The deal they have with the supermarket chains to keep out competition are eroding the lactose intolerant's perceptions of dairy free chocolate alternatives.
I urge anyone viewing this page to go to a specialty foods store and try any of the chocolates on offer that are dairy free, ALL of them are infinitely better than anything Sweet William offers. The bland, vaguely cocoa flavoured products are all disgusting. I seriously doubt the credibility of any 4 or 5 star rating of this product, as this company will go to every end to make their incredibly inedible products the most saturated on the market.
DO NOT EAT IF YOU RESPECT YOUR TASTE BUDS AT ALL!

Similar texture to regular dairy milk chocolate

published

Whilst I definitely believe there are better tasting non-dairy/vegan chocolates, this does a pretty great job at mimicking the texture/smoothness/creaminess of normal full dairy choc chips. Would be perfect for cookies or baking, i've just been binging from out of the packet, they're yum once you get used to the slightly different taste.
