Fitness is not the paint I reviewed. My experience is u can thin any paint a little but it might splatter and not cover as well. Also might feel different then u have todo the same for all mixes. Good luck

3 in 1 is a good primer and will usually stick to most surfaces. It's hiding power will be less than white flat ceiling acrylic. Have your ceiling paint tinted " builders white". Use one coat of 3 in 1 and two coats of ceiling white should do it.....
How did it turn out?

Sorry for delay in answering, I imagine you've done it already, but yes you can. If the surface is very glossy or smooth you will need to give it a light sand, but if it is already roughened or degraded by weather you could miss that part. But either way you should clean it well with sugar soap before using the 3 in 1. Also, if the existing surface is very smooth or if it is some weird type of paint that doesn't take overpainting well (some paints are like that) you could use ESP easy surface prep, which actually works.

Hi Joe sorry for later answer, Yes you must use a topcoat. 3 in 1 is a primer/undercoat only that is not meant for long term exposure, especially a bathroom. Recommend using a quality paint with some level of gloss eg satin or semi-gloss, which makes the surface smoother and more impervious to moisture. And must have antifungal in the paint. You can buy antifungal treatment to add to the paint if it's not already in it.

Will Taubmans 3 in 1 adhere to an old oil based varnish or shellac coating without sanding?

I'd be more concerned about the varnish or shellac lifting from the timber.
