Can I record programmes without a USB ? I had an older version of the same set top box & I didn’t need a USB . I also can’t find recorded programmes. Is this because I haven’t recorded to a USB . Can’t find anywhere in the instructions where it tells you how to do this. Instruction book is pretty useless ! Thank you

Same problem. Would love to hear an answer.

To create favourite TV channels, you have to go into the main menu, the open "Program Edit" with your (own) code, select a channel, press CH FAV then, choose a designation (News, Movies, etc) and EXIT (for each one). Once you have all of your favourites chosen, just EXIT. Once it is saved, they will appear on your CH FAV list.

Can you connect this setup box to a PC monitor to view TV? I have a Asus VH242H (with HDMI).
And if so, will the audio go through the HDMI as well?

Insanely, it seems like the only way to do this is go into MENU, then Program Edit (entering your own code) and then change back to TV channels (or vice versa). There's no button for it and that's the only way I've ever been able to do it!

Hi, read instruction carefully (ant connected) and attempt to do an auto channel search. This should pick up all the channels available to you. If this fails I would be taking the unit back for a replacement as this does not sound right.

All you need to do is turn the Teac off and on again - no need to remove it... hope this helps.
PS: It is "old" technology.

Try reformatting another USB stick with Disk Utility using Fat 32 (Windows & Mac compatible) – then transfer your recording from the old USB to the new one using your Laptop/Desktop Computer.

If that doesn't work I'd probably try to resource the material you'd recorded & simply re-record it to the TEAC unit, keeping in mind that a FAT32 formatted USB will be compatible with any computer.

Hope this helps.

Mee2

Hi, first make sure you check what file format your USB is as not all formats will work as I have discovered.
If not Fat32, try taking your movies off and set them aside then reformat and reload movies.
Hope this works for you.

I had the same thing and had to connect it to PC monitor to change the resolution. I found it easier to take the monitor to the TV & STB, then I could easily swap the HDMI cable between TV & monitor. Open STB menu to video resolution when plugged into the monitor, change the resolution using the left or right buttons, after switching the HDMI back into the TV, until you find the setting that works for the TV.

Every time I turn off my HDB860 it loses the USB connection. I have to pull out the USB to my external hard drive and re-insert it for it to recognise it. This means I can't record anything without leaving the unit on after having performed the out/in manoeuvre. Any ideas?

The format should be FAT32 and if you are using an External HDD then it should have it's own power supply

I have just bought a teac hd860. I get my tv signal via cable (no aerial on the roof). So I’ve connected the teac box to the cable, and connected the teac to a tv. I can see the set up screen ok, but a channel search picks up no channels.

Should it work, bearing in mind I have connected it to a cable tv plug at the wall? Any ideas what I’m doing wrong??

Padandisa,
although you have the box connected to the TV you still seem to be missing a type of antenna. You will need this in order for the box to locate the channels, you will need one and it does not have to be an outdoor antenna, you can use a "rabbit ear" type depending on where you live you'll get some channels.
Cable is not the same

Padandisa,
Similar to the answer you received from Mee2, there's nothing wrong with the TEAC STB... your problem is you don't have an antenna. If you're in a rental you should be able to get the landlord to pay for its installation. If you're a home owner, you'll need to install or have someone install an appropriate aerial (remembering that modern equipment should support digital transmission). I've left a site which should further answer your question. Good luck.

You can buy a new one on eBay for about $25 - ships from Melbourne. You could pick up from the store if you're close.
