I have a HDB850 set top/PVR box. It has worked fine for some years but now keeps losing channels particularly 9 with the message "Invalid Channel". I have checked out the aerial feed and that is all good. The TV is not affected. My experience with other electronic devices is that quite often electrolytic capacitors in the power supply are leaky and/or have dropped capacity from when new. I opened the unit up and inspected the capacitors visually. They all appeared to be in good condition, no evidence of leakage or bulging. What else can I try. I would have just bought a replacement by apparently they are no longer available.

My Teac HDB850 has suddenly stopped working. There was power since yesterday and digital screen was showing 4 dots(lines). Someone suggested to turn it off for 20 mins and it will start work again but after 20 mins- there is no power now. Can someone suggest how will it work please?
Thanks

Turn it off at the wall and remove the plug from the wall. Leave for 10 mins and then retry. I had a different problem (not power) and I contacted TEAC support and they were very helpful and resolved the issue.

Yes no problems with 1T at all. But not a good idea to go any bigger because what happens if the drive fails?
You lose everything !

This is not the model I have but problems I had with mine were fixed by TEAC support.

Sounds like hard drive has died. Unrepairable. They're only $49-95 according to the TEAC website.

My television has begun to have channels “drop out” for 2-3 minutes then come back on. It has been suggested it could be set top box causing the problem. Signal strength has been tested and all good.

I have not had this problem but my stb did need some software upgrades soon after I purchased it. TEAC support did this for me.

Sounds more like a loose connection somewhere. Signal strength might be OK but if it's a poor cable joint that won't help. Maybe try new cables (they're very cheap)

I have an HDB850 - have had it for years but think it needs a firmware update. I'm having a hard time finding the update and when I tried to click on the HDB850 download page my virus program suggested that the teac site is dangerous and the download page has URLs that are potectially harmful. Be grateful for any advice.

Don't waste your time. No need for any updates for a simple set-top box. Only thing you will have to do is retune the stations occasionally as they are always changing.

Rather than do a rescan, do a factory reset. If you do still need the Firmware contact [email protected] with the request and I'll send it to you. I am the Account Manager for TEAC Warranties

I think you will find that there are only 36 digital channels to tune so you will have all the channels available.

Sounds like the USB drive you are saving to isn't big enough. An hours worth of TV uses around 2 G for starters. Try a 16 or 32 G drive (very cheap now)

I believe this is an option in Settings that allows you to set both space and time for PVR recording. Go to Menu then USB then PVR configure. Hope this helps.

Hi Mark, I have found same issue with no success in changing the set time. It also happens playing movies from the usb port. Seems to have a set timer. I got rid of mine and bought a different brand and it is the same.

Hi Ian
you were correct, there is a setting in PVR recording that I changed to 3 hours so I now can record entire movies, thx for your suggestion, cheers

Teac HDB860 set-top box. 6 Months old.
About every 30 seconds both video and audio freeze up and resume 5 seconds later, skipping the missing 5 seconds all-together. Problem started 2 days ago.
An easy fix apart from junking this box and buying another brand?

1 answer
David F.
David F.

Almost certainly your set-top box is fine. Pixellating and freezing usually caused by weak signal from the aerial. Check your cables are all plugged in properly. Try bypassing the box altogether and plugging the aerial direct to the TV, If it's still bad that will prove it's your aerial. Hope this helps.
