a pure joy to drive
I recently hired the Corolla from hertz for 7 days and drove away with the auto model, the sporty type gear thingo was a treat and made going up my big ol hill a delight
Also great for comfortably throughout including the fold down back seats that leave enough space for a small air bed

Great drive, great ride, shocking essentials
I have just traded my Mazda 2 for a 2014 Toyota Corolla Ascent Sport 8 speed CVT Hatch. She was the used demo model. I just love the drive. I live in dangerous winding mountainous roads and am no longer banging my undercarriage on the pot holes or being thrown around like a rag doll in a billy cart. Nothing more than a wee bump in the Corolla. I love the drive and the CVT has me powering up the mountains effortlessly. I feel safe in it. I just love it! I have always been a Ford owner previously but chose the Toyota as I didn't trust the Ford Fo...Read more
cus. (bad reviews) and the Mazda 3 was out of my budget. The downside wasn't discovered until this week. I have absolutely no peripheral lighting on my LED headlights. Toyota dealer says they will take a look at it but said it is a problem with another of their models too and doesn't seem to be fixable. The lights appear to be set too far back into a metal tube. No side glow at all. When turning at night there is absolutely no visibility. Its the equivalent of turning into a black curtain. This makes me cringe as I am literally turning blind. I may as well have my eyes shut. The only way around it is to nervously creep around the corners at 2 kph while holding my breath and hoping for the best. I now cannot drive at night until they "look" at the car. As its under warranty, I would prefer they "fix" it than "look" at it. If the problem cannot be fixed which after looking at the design of the lights, I don't see how it can be, then she will be sold off immediately as I cannot afford the luxury of crashing or killing someone nor do I think I could possibly live by a nightfall curfew. The other problem is the ridiculously tiny rear window and the inability to carry out a shoulder check (mandatory back in driving school) when changing lanes. Their are too many blind spots on this car, I don't know how it passed the safety requirements. Apart from the side mirrors, the whole car is one big blind spot! My fault, I thought is was a matter of learning to adjust to it as each change of car feels different. No, it is what it is. This is my first Toyota purchased after years of being told what reliable and great cars they are. So far I am not impressed. How could anyone get the basic essentials so wrong? Come on Toyota, get it together. Motor bike riders beware. Overtake a Corolla at your own risk!

Economical and roomy
I have shifted from a Swift to a 2014 Corolla Ascent Sport recently and have found the space for luggage much improved.
I loved the Suzuki but it was a manual and I had to get an auto.
I agree with others, the rear view is dreadful, the camera next to useless and the big 'hips' make it simple to damage the car. The stereo is hard to operate and I cannot locate a 'scan' for the radio stations when travelling, so use the Bluetooth.
Otherwise, it's a powerful, spacious and comfortable conveyance. And as it's white I never fear being pulled over for speeding!

A car for some one who just want to go from B to A with some music
Good: it's a Toyota so probably won't go wrong if looked after, IMO looks good, comfy seats, good value for money (if you value build and engineering over toys and electronics), cheap insurance.
Note: drinks more fuel then the competitors, due for a facelift soon (2016 maybe) so keep that in mind, interior is a bit fussy, has to be service twice a year but the 2 service cost is less then competitors P/A and you get fresh oil more often.
Edit: hatch is made in Japan, sadan is made in Thailand, just a FYI
Bad: have steering wheel control but the wheel as a whole look so bad and outdated, the head-unit touch function is slow and useless, poor viability due to thick A B and C pillars.

Best Corolla Ever
I said I'd wait for a few months before reviewing my new Corolla Ascent Sport Hatch and here it goes...
Owned the original 1985 Corolla Seca liftback (the proper liftback, not the hatch) and it was an amazing car. Owned a Commodore, then a Mazda 323 then back to Corolla in July 2013 because they finally designed a car that looks sporty not like something a nurse would drive.
I was blown away by how well it drives, handles, the safety features and everything the 1985 Corolla never had for its $16,000 price tag. You get much more for $24,00...Read more
0 28 years later. If one factored in a 2%pa inflation rate, that $16,000 car with no abs, airbags, stability control, fog lights, touch screen bluetooth audio, central locking, reversing camera, 7 speed CVT etc, would cost around $28,000. It is a dream to drive. As another reviewer said it takes a little time to get used to a hatch's dimensions, small rear window and sloping bonnet but it's worth it. The rear camera is far better than parking sensors, you actually see what is there rather than hear a beep. That allows you to perfectly line up when reverse parking, and get back very fast without hitting a wall. When I saw the 2014 Mazda 3 that was being touted as the "next big thing" I was underwhelmed. It did not look like it was worth waiting for and I was right. Higher price and not much better.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Honest Car
We bought our Corolla auto sport on run out as we expected to get an upgraded model for a bit less.
I had test driven a few cars from other manufacturers with similar pricing/style & many had the newer CVT auto transmission, which I find terribly annoying. The Corolla was right on the money. It does everything it's supposed to with out any fuss. Easy to park once you get used to it's dimensions as you can't see the front because of the slope of the bonnet. It's good with petrol if you take it a bit easier, handles well to. My only niggle is the skirt on the front bumper, it scrapes on our & other driveways. They are a great car.
Easy to drive, frugal with petrol.
Front skirt to low. Their like backsides, it seems everyone has one

Love driving my Corolla
Bought a new Toyota Corolla Ascent Sport model in August Japanese build 2013. The quality is extremely good. I like the legroom as I am over 6 feet compared to my Yaris. I also like the footrest whereas my Yaris didn't have one. It is roomy and comfortable especially the front seating. It was the seating which is one of the main reasons I went for the Corolla. I tried many other makes models but it was superior seating of the Corolla. All other accessories as excellent especially the bluetooth and radio.
Good all round vehicle
The clock on the dash should be closer to the driver. Now that I have a hatchback I would rather prefer the sedan.

Toyota 2013 auto sport hatch review
Ok here I am Back with a Toyota. My first car was an old Escort (good little first car). I then bought a 2 yr old Commodore (disappointment). 1990 new Corolla limited hatch excellent, next Toyota Hilux 4 runner (again excellent). Change of circumstances small zippy car needed Hyundai (pce of rubbish) after 4 years worth needed new motor and worth $500. Bought a new Ford Focus (very disappointed with its drive and servicing. Ford treated me like a dumb female and salesmen 2 only interested in hitting on me). Silly me back to Ford for a new Escap...Read more
e (meh! Very ordinary and again service rubbish different dealer). Now I feel home again with my Toyota Corolla sport, comfortable, economical, dream to drive. Toyota has never disappointed me. Every one treats me with respect and kindness, they even remember my name. I have never had trouble getting decent money back on a Toyota. One thing I can't stand when looking for a new car is a salesman that can only put down his competitor rather than sell what he has. Researched and test drove Hyundai, Mazda and VW. Golf was lovely and had everything but I thought too expensive for what it is. Got a great deal on the Toyota sport at $23,500 with full window tint, mats and weather shields all round, less trade. I drive to the city and back every day in traffic (aprox 40 Ks every day) and once a month I travel interstate (aprox 600 Ks). Handles highway and round town like a champ. Cabin noise is a little more than I would like, but with music I honestly don't notice it. I believe it was worth the little extra for the alloy wheels, reverse camera etc on the sports. Once at work I use company cars Toyota Yaris, Corolla, Camry hybrid, Ford Focus, Falcon and Holden Cruze. I wanted a small car or I would have gone a Camry, word of warning Holden Cruze can not handle traffic we have had 2 overheat in the last 12 month 2 different cars two different drivers and spare an optional extra??? Economical, comfortable. Cabin noise could be reduced.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
The best car ever!
I recently purchased a 2013 automatic Toyota Corolla Ascent Sport for my first car (I am 17), I purchased because of Toyotas reliability and the general safety of the car. Before my purchase I was looking at other cars such as the Ford Focus and Hyundai i30. I can't make many comparisons as I have only driven a few cars in my life, but ever since I've had it I've been in love. It is extremely smooth to drive and easy to get around in, the fuel economy is great. I get around 550km out of one tank and it costs me around $60 to fill up. The interi...Read more
or is extremely sexy and is way better value for money over some other similar cars on the market. The car has been extremely reliable and I will make further comment after my first 6 month service. Definitely would recommend buying this car. Reliable2 comments
Just curious where you live and fill up a 50 ltr tank for $60. Even E10 is 1.60 a ltr here in brisbane
Maybe she fills it up when it hits 1/4 full which a lot of people do - 1/4 = 41 litres x 1.48 a litre (price here in wollongong) = $60.68. I spend about $70 to fill up my Camry so I think that's about right personally...

Value for money
I purchased my new Corolla Hatch in March 2013. I've had a few problems with it. Firstly the stereo. Very temperamental when it comes to connecting the Bluetooth. Only works 50% of the time. Secondly I've got a problem with the 7 speed auto. We live on a busy road, which means that when there is a break in the traffic, you have to put your foot to the floor to exit our driveway. But for no apparent reason, sometimes the auto won't change gear. It just stays in first gear, motor screams and you're flat out going any faster then 30kph. I have to...Read more

GPS does not work. Reverse camera is ok.
Over all the car is as others say. Great car for the money although I wonder if a Kia or Hyundai would be just as good.
I'm writing this for 1 main reason. The in car GPS option. It cost us $2k to have it as an option. It NEVER works. Constantly loses connection to satellites, never knows where we are when it is working especially in the CBD. It is a nightmare. We have a Lexus as well as this and the GPS is brilliant. Hard to think the same manufacture could make two systems that are so different.
I am currently trying to get our money b...Read more
ack for the GPS option from Toyota. How they can charge $2000 for clearly a faulty product I don't know. I have read a couple of reviews now that mention this is a known problem with the Corolla. 2013 Ascent Sports Hatch. Looks good. Toyotas are always well built in my experience. Roomy for a little hatch. GPS / SatNav simply does not work. $2000 option for nothing. Reverse camera could be better. Contrast is to high, and now direction mapping when you turn the wheel to show you where you will end up in reverse. Very basic.1 comment
Have had my corolla for about three months one new radio (due to the blue tooth being stuffed) and a reverse camera that is fuzzy and Toyota cant fix other wise a great car
What a joke there products and no one can fix

Perfect Car!
I decided to purchased the Corolla Ascent Sports because it had more features than the standard model. For it's price, it's definitely good value.
My dealer was very friendly and polite (thumbs up for outstanding service). The paper work was easy, just read and signed a few papers and had my contract explained to me so and so. The waiting period for car was a month, however this month flew by pretty quick. Before I knew it, It was time to go and pick up my car.

opened the door. The car delivery guy had programed my car radio for me as well as set it up to connect with my mobile via bluetooth. It was ready to drive away and enjoy! Above all, I believe purchasing this car was a great choice! Sporty look, Sporty interior, reliable, powerful, fuel efficient, quiet engine.2 comments
