Needed the space!
We had a baby 10 months ago and realised we needed more space than our Hilux offered. Love the Toyota and didn't want to sway from it so had a look at the Prado. Love it for space. We can take everything (and I do mean everything) our bub needs on our long trips. The only down side so far is the short gears. Driving around town we are constantly changing gears (our fault for buying a manual).

Finally - a car that fits both work and life!
I work as a sales rep on the road all day, so my car is both my transport and office. On the weekends I can go off the beaten track and go pretty much wherever I like. I used to have a Commodore, fantastic for work, didn't really cut it on the weekends.
I have the GXL D4D Manual, I've had it for about 6 months now, and I have had no issues with it mechanically. I know some people don't like the noise the diesel makes, then if this is an issue for you, buy a petrol - Just don't go off road in dry places! The only thing I have found is goi...Read more
ng down steep hills, you really do need to engage low range. The 80 Series Landcruiser we have will happily go down in High range 1st, where as my Prado will just start to run away. Around the city it drives well, and the open road it drives and smoothly. I wouldn't say its underpowered, I only notice its a bit slow off the mark when I have some extra weight on. I've had an ARB Bull Bar installed, as well as drawers, a fridge and cargo barrier and the extra weight has made little difference to the handling even through its added a reasonable amount of weight, especially once the drawers and fridge at full! I'm in and out of about 10 car parks a day and I don't have any issue with parking or seeing out the vehicle. My Commodore had 10 times the blind spots. If you have come from an older car, you will notice the pillars are much wider and you will have some vision issues when turning sometimes, however these are there to house the airbags. The rear camera gives excellent vision behind the car and the sensors pick up what the camera doesn't. Still I wouldn't trust it if you have little kids running around, if you can't see the kids, don't move the car. Our driveway is blind on both sides to pedestrians so the camera is great - its amazing how many people see a car reversing and still choose to walk behind it! The keyless entry is brilliant as I often has my hands full going to and from the car. Some people have commented on what you do if the remote is damaged or lost - you use the key in the fob to open the door and then place the fob over the start button and push it it start. I'm pretty sure this is in the book, but the dealer told me when I bought it. If you are going to a remote area, you wont be on your own anyway (unless you are a hermit or an idiot), so give your passenger or other vehicle your spare key in case one is damaged. If you lose your keys, your stuffed whether you had a normal key or keyless entry so a pretty silly complaint!Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
