Not recommended - do not travel with United Air
These guys have the worst customer Service.
My husband and I traveled from LA to New York, we checked in very early (I think it was 2.5 or 2 hour before our flight) we were allocated the very back seats and in between 2 single travelers. Never again will I travel with them.

Never Again!
We flew to the USA from Sydney on this airline. Never again. If you have a child do not even consider it! They made us feel that our one-year-old was a nuisance, in case has disturbed them. Firstly we watched as our luggage was tossed around and fell off the trolley. On the plane they told us there was not meal for the child as we hadn't ordered special food. They finally brought a meal and almost threw it as us, telling us we were lucky some other child was not hungry. A steward walked up and said "That kid had better not be sick on this fligh...Read more
t, because I would have to clean up the mess!" The little one was not even upset. In fact he was perfect the whole flight. He slept, read books and sat on our laps. He is very placid. The toilets in the plane failed in economy so the flight was diverted to Hawaii because no way were we to go to business or first class toilets. When we arrived in the US we circled for so long that our family missed the flight to the eat coast and were put on a flight to Seattle, where we circled again and missed the flight across to Chicago by two minutes. It took two whole days to get to NYC. Our luggage was still in LA and we had come from summer to a winter blizzard! I can't blame the airline for the weather but the service as not just bad, it was abysmal. And very very rude staff.

Disgusting
Booked a flight with United Airlines on our holiday and watched in amazement from inside the terminal the way in which the baggage guys load peoples baggage (at Atlanta). We discussed at the time how violently he was shoving & throwing the luggage whilst laughing. (Mr cool with his sun glasses on showing off). We had no surprise when we collected our luggage to find our suitcase was seriously dented & damaged. We have used this suitcase traveling to England, Ireland, Scotland, Venice, Rome, Paris, Australia, Canada and the USA with various ai...Read more

Business First Class ... Don't waste your money!
I have flown Business Class with Qantas, Singapore, Lan Chile, Austrian, Lufthansa, Malayasian, Thai, Scandinavian Airlines. United Airlines is the worst by far, and not recommended. I have just returned after flights: Melbourne-Los Angeles-New York and Ft Lauderdale-Houston-Los Angeles-Melbourne.
Seats are narrow, uncomfortable, and to get out of a window seat if your neighbour is sleeping requires the agility and flexibility of a contortionist. Staff assistance is minimal and a request is bothersome to them. No assistance or welcome on...Read more
boarding, just a constant demand you decide on your choice of menu before take-off for a meal to be served on a 15hour flight. (At that stage I was unaware the meal would be served and over within the first two hours of flight). I am 75, female, travelling alone, average build, and fortunately reasonably fit to deal with accessing the overhead lockers. No help was offered, except by other travellers. I can manage alone, but I pay the extra thousands of dollars for help and support which has been freely offered with a smile and welcome with every other airline with I have travelled the world on longhaul flights to and from Australia. My flight departed on both trans-Pacific longhaul flights on time. From Melbourne doors closed at 9.15AM, and I was settling into the 14+hour flight. At 10.30AM when I would have welcomed coffee and a snack, I was being asked about wine and drinks and being prepared for the main course in-flight meal. This was served in great haste and all over within an hour, and there was still 12 hours of flight ahead. Several hours later in the darkened cabin some trays of sandwiches and packets of chips and pretzels were laid out on a table, but if you did not go for a walk in the dark you would be unaware of the so-called buffet service. A couple of hours later I walked to the galley asking for a coffee and snack. Coffee was available but I was told there was No food left....This is business first class!!!! However in an hour before landing (approx 10.30pm Melb time), breakfast would be served!! And it was! I did finally discover that in the fine print on the menu is a notice stating that you can request your meal service be delayed and served upon request. I did that on my return long flight as I did not need a 4 course meal at midnight. The request was met with a proviso I make two choices, and give staff 30 mins notice. Safety-wise: flights were as scheduled and we landed 30 mins early on the return to Australia journey. I do not recommend the United Airlines Business First service on its Dreamliner. I have informed my Travel Agency network in Australia and the Tour group with whom I travelled in USA for a month. I have no experience of United Airlines economy travel, but the Dreamliner. Business Class rates worst out of my experience of 9 airlines over the past 10 years.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
An Airline Company that does not care
We flew United from LA to Denver on the 30 July 2015. Collected baggage and one of our bags was covered in white paint. Attended United Baggage counter and reported the matter, the two females were upset I interrupted their conversation and when advised about the paint they did not take a report, they handed me a tissue, I am unsure if this was to clean the bag with or an attempt at humour as in dry your eyes princess.
Then flew Denver to Las Vegas and my on board bag did not fit into the overhead compartment, had to go to the door and place...Read more

I told him I was the paying customer and he should get off his [censored word removed] and run to get the tags. You then get on the internet to register a complaint and its a complete run around. The replacement cost of the case is $239.00 Aus and the company does not want to know anything about it. The airline needs to take a hard look at the ways they conduct business and improve their service immediately.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Worst experience ever!
I was traveling to US with my baby. Never provided bassinet on repeated requests. Snacks for sale in an International flight. Too strange!
At the time of check in from US back to Sydney the representatives changed my Last name on his own. And told me that I don't have a visa to travel back to my country Sydney..

Refusal to reimburse after fraudulent withdrawal from account
United charged my partner and I TWICE for the same flight, causing our account to be overdrawn and leaving us without money for days. They subsequently refused to reimburse us our money!!! We have lost time at work trying to sort this out, a very distressing experience.

Booking Scam by United Airlines
Beware of overcharges when booking domestic flights directly with United Airlines on united.com website. Ticket prices discriminate against non US citizens, it appears there is a levy to fly with this company if you book using a non US credit card. Booking through US travel websites other than United's own website circumnavigates this unfair and discriminatory practice. You would be wise to try alternate carriers if available on US domestic routes. This is the only carrier I've found which discriminates against customers when purchasing flight tickets from zones outside the US.

Good, no problems
I traveled with United on my recent trip the the US, in May 2015. The routes I flew with them were;
MEL - LAX,
LAX - JFK,
EWR - LAS
LAS - LAX
LAX - MEL
I found the airline itself to be good, and the prices very reasonable, especially from MEL, (5 x flights cost just under AUD$2000). Staff were helpful enough, and check in was easy. All flights I took left on time, and in a few occasions arrived early at my destination.

Worst airlines I've traveled till date
United is definitely the worst airlines I've traveled on so far. My 14 hours leg from Sydney to LA had no in flight entertainment & i was forced to stare at the planes wall, also the seats were hard and very uncomfortable, food was average. Upon arriving at LA my language was lost and had to wait 3 days for it to arrive (I was promised a refund on items that i required) and after 1 year still waiting on it. WORST OF THE WORST - only real benefit and the reason i traveled with them was because they were the only few that had direct flights from SYD to LA but would recommend finding another flight even if it takes slightly longer.

Ripped OFF by undisclosed baggage charges
Watch out for "secret" baggage charges
I booked 2 flights for Melbourne to Fort Lauderdale return online in Australia selecting the flights provided on the website (all "UA"flights) at $2500 each.
My e- ticket indicates $0.00 for 1 bag checked luggage within size and weight rules for this itieniery. When we went to check in at FLL to return home - I was forced to pay $50USD to check our bags because the flight was operated by Silver airways (owned by United using a "UA" flight number) who charge for all checked bags as there were no other flight
Customer Service have refused to provide a refund despite a number of requests -- apparently I should have known about the fee ....even though they apologise for not providing this information

Good and bad, Neglectful staff at LAX
Our family had booked a holiday to Disneyland and then Las Vegas. All flights with United Airlines.
No problems with our flights to USA and Vegas. The inflight entertainment system was awesome, made the trip go by much quicker, Terrific if you have kids. Keeps them really entertained. Flying economy. Food was average. Not alot of leg room. Cramped. Economy was very cold. Wished I known about economy plus before we left. We had paid extra to fly direct from Melbourne to LAX, would have paid extra for Economy plus.

o LAX with connection to Melbourne flight. We get to Las Vegas airport, told our flight is running late. Okay no problem, It is then pushed back by over 2 hours, which means we will now miss our connecting flight to Melbourne. However they promised us (and all the other aussies on the flight) that they would hold the Sydney flight for us as it leaves later. Then a connecting flight from Sydney to Melbourne. Was trying to avoid that, but however. When we landed at LAX the Sydney flight had already left! There were other domestic passengers on the flight from Vegas who had all missed there connecting flights too. By this time it is nearly midnight. There was only 2 staff serving all the people on the Vegas flight. It would have been better organised if they had had one person serving all the international people, Australia, NZ and Canada. And the other person serving all the domestic travellers. But No. This queue took over 2 hours as they served every person individually. There were no more flights that night domestically or internationally. Stranded. The domestic passengers were very angry as they were offered nothing, accommodation, food. Were just told to wait to the next day. Most of them left the airport, and went elsewhere. When the staff at the desk said that we would have to wait till the following night for the next Melbourne flight, they said that accommodation would be arranged. No vacancies could be found. They stated that every hotel room in the greater Los Angeles area was full. This was not accurate.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

I took a flight from NY to Istanbul with a connection in Zurich.
The flight was late, I missed the connection. There was another flight direct to Istanbul 2 hours later, but it was overbooked! So I was told to wait 2 hours in Zurich, to take a flight to Stuttgart, where they booked me a sit for a Stuttgart-Istanbul flight.
At the arrival in Stuttgart, no United representative was there.
I was with a family with 2 kids, trying as well to reach Istanbul.
The staff at the transfer desk only spoke german, and to...Read more

United Airline Comedy or Horror?
I had the misfortune of trying to use United Airlines to make an International flight leaving from San Fancisco to Brisbane, Australia. So I watch all the other airlines come and go from Calgary Airport (CANADA) where I was located and waited for my United Airline flight to San Francisco to one day arrive. This was flight UA6348 in January 2015. There was only one United Airline staff member in the whole airport at Calgary and they could not (would not) help me with the issue of connecting flights. So with over 8 hours at Calgary, in which I co...Read more
uld have organized an earlier flight to make my connecting international flight, United Airlines chose to only staff the airport departure gate over an hour after the original flight was due to leave. Then the United Airline staff told me that they wanted to keep me on my original flight despite my indicating this would mean I lost my connecting international flight! But there were more issues to come... Despite booking an Economy Plus seat with United Airlines months in advance as I was finally boarding the delayed plane my boarding pass was taken off me and I was given a regular coach seat! They thrust another boarding ticket in my hand and said use it or stay! When I tried to show them my travel agent eTicket with the prepaid Economy Plus seat (Clearly indicated on it) they treated me rudely and refused to look at it or resolve the issue. They made a scene and made it clear I either did what they said or get off the plane! I had never been so embarrassed in my life! I cannot reiterate the rudeness of the staff at United Airlines! Beware of this! A younger less experienced person would be reduced to tears by their behavior! Never once did I raise my voice or behave in an inappropriate way and they were very hostile to me... (I got a quiet refund back on my credit card for the Economy Plus seat upgrade later by the airline...no apologies or explanations...but I picked up that it was done through monitoring my card...so they did finally realize their mistake but did not acknowledge it to me) United Airlines staff did organize for me to fly to Sydney Australia on United Airlines as I missed my original flight home which meant flying in an inferior premium economy to the airline I was booked with. (I was told to speak to my travel insurance company to redeem the difference in cost between the two airlines) They also booked a flight for me from Sydney to Brisbane with Qantas that I could never successfully make as I needed to clear customs and get to the domestic airport to make the next flight. I tried to explain this to United Airline staff at the time but they indicated to take it or leave it! Again they were so rude! And yes...I did not make my domestic flight in Australia and had to organize alternative flights as a result. I cannot emphasize enough how rude and awful my experience with United Airlines was. When I wrote to them about it they offered a lousy $100 travel voucher with an extensive list of conditions for its use. I will not be able to use it in Australia so it was a hollow gesture. I am STILL waiting for United Airlines to provide me with written confirmation that my flight was delayed due weather so that I can reclaim some money lost in this sad adventure with United Airlines. It has been a month now...still waiting so I can make my insurance claims...United Airlines customer service also appears to be extremely substandard. Do not fly with these guys if you can avoid it! If you are a frequent flyer with the Star Alliance as I am, then use another airline that is more friendly, helpful, and provides a better service.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Shame on United Airlines!
Our 18 year old daughter was verbally harassed in the security line in Boston by a security woman hired by United accusing her of carrying an oversize carry on bag. After putting it in the bag size testing piece they have and showing the person it was a legal size and weight bag the woman continued to harass and embarrass her. Our very low key happy easy going child was in tears by the time she got thru security 20 minutes later after being yelled at numerous times by this women. see her and called her on her phone. She was crying hysterically. This child has flown around th world numerous times since she was an infant so knows the rules etc. We filed a complaint which took another 25 minutes to wait for someone to listen to the complaint only to be told "Sorry". Are you kidding me?! The man said it happens all the time and it had just been in the paper last week where an older customer thru her bag at the security person after being harassed. We paid almost $9,000 dollars for 2 tickets to fly to Sydney, Australia and had Global upgrades certificates that again did not even work. From BOS-SFO-SYD not one United employee was even remotely cordial. I will never use this airline again. After using so many other International Airlines and being treated well from economy to business class, United needs to step it up and go to customer relations school. Shame on them! Surprisingly Good.
Experienced three flights with United.
Flew SYD to LAX. Flight departed on time and arrived early into LAX. Aircraft was a 777 with seatback entertainment system. Good selection to last the whole 14 hours. Adequate legroom in standard economy. Service was quite okay.
Second flight was Denver to LAX. The flight departed and arrived on time which was good as we had a tight connection.
Final flight was LAX to SYD. The aircraft wasn't full, which allowed some 'spreading out'. Meals were served efficiently although only one choice was available for both services.
At least from my experience, there were no negatives. All flights were on time and service was good.

One star is too much!!
San Francisco to Seattle return in First Class. Huh! "First Class"! More like "Hearse Class". No food or drink provided on the two hour flight, and the unbelievable rudeness and incompetence of the ground staff in Seattle was horrifying! This airline should not still be in business. It's certainly the worst airline I've had the misfortune to fly with.

I flew SYD to SFO on 21/6/13, did ten flights within the US with united and returned from SFO on the 13/7/13, the flight was on time and arrived on time for my connecting flight. The 747 was showing it's age, the inflight system was great for the 80's but we are now in 2013 and on a 14 hour flight not to have seat back entrainment is pretty pathetic. you. I flew SYD to LAX on a Qantas 747 three years back and they were really good, had lots of room, seat back entertainment, better food and nice service. Qantas have now put A380s on SYD to LAX which goes to show how far behind United is to Qantas. If united airlines is the best America's got then the Australian airlines are far more superior. It shows how united will treat customers for greater profits. If you get the choice to fly SYD to LAX with qantas and then get a connecting flight to SFO is would be far more comfortable and enjoyable even if it cost a few hundred more it would be well worth it not to go on a United 1980s rust bucket. on time departure and arrival No seat back entertainment on 14hr flight, no personal space and cramped cabin.Similar opinion? We are travelling with 3 children aged 8, 11 and 13. Are united airlines accommodating and friendly especially being their first flights? We are travelling from Melbourne to LAX with United
4 answers
I guess "accomodating " is a two way street, Firstly, did you book direct with United . Com and have you reserved your seats. ? With children you do not want to be to far from the toilets. Also, look up your flight on United.com to see the seating configuration chart, and also join their free loyalty program Mileage plus and give your membership numbers at check in. Here is a hint, take a nice box of wrapped chocolates on board for the crew with a smile........hope this helps, Warm Regards, Tony . G.
I booked via travel agent not direct and found them to be excellent
Hi Andrew, The reason I book thru the UA website direct is. (1) I have seen travel, agents go insolvent and provide you with a false printed itinerary and they abscond with your funds.(2) The UA website keeps you up to date with time /schedule changes via your email and their loyalty program,Mileage Plus, which is free to join. (3) Booking directly, you can scan the seating configuration and click on which seats you want and also apply for cabin upgrades..It is trouble free and you can keep a check on you Reservation all you want. Hi Yoke Fein
I cannot answer your question as I don't work for United Airlines. I had a serious problem with United when we flew on one of their planes and my wife was not allowed to get to her medication and she had an asthma attack on the plane. You best get hold of your travel agent and let them assist you with your problem.
