I purchased a larger mower than initially required as we will be moving to a larger block in the near future. I chose Victa as I believe it is an Australian company although I now see that it was manufactured in China. It has proved to be a very disappointing and regrettable purchase. Firstly I must say that the large wheels are great and make wheeling the mower on a gravel path very easy. Unfortunately this is the only good thing I can say about the mower. The position of the handle seems to be wrong as the pressure of pushing appears to direc...
Read moret the front of the machine downwards into the grass and getting stuck. Also when using the mulch function the plastic flap is lower than the frame of the mower and makes it impossible to pull the mower backwards. Finally the wheels protrude out further than the blade width making it impossible to mow right up to the edge of the lawn. All in all my purchase was an expensive mistake.Purchased in at Bunnings Warehouse for $479.

The chassis rusted away and collapsed. I have a modest size flat yard and motor has not missed a beat. the lawn mower has always been cleaned and kept in a garden shed. I have never seen a lawn mower frame go before a motor or catcher.

I purchased my lawn mower in March 2010. During this time I never replaced the oil, I only topped it up once or twice. I had to repair it once, when a part underneath got cracked while replacing the blades (not my fault, rather a defect during manufacturing). I also replaced the blades, air filter and spark plug twice. One time the pull cord got caught by the engine when I released it. I had to repair it - I consider it was my fault because at that time, after I was starting the engine, I was just letting the cord loose from my hand, rather tha...
Read moren gently lead it back (as I do after that experience). What I found bad about is that the grass doesn't come out very easy from the catcher bag, I have to shake it well to fall into the collection bag. Also, on wet and grass, it fails to push the grass into the catcher bag, therefore forcing me to turn it off often and remove the grass by hand. During these ten years, I probably used it about 40 - 50 times.Purchased in for $375.

Bought a Victa Hurricane 20^ 500E series today from where else ? Bunnings for $399.00. (2yr warranty)
When I arrived home, I found the machine very easy and straight forward to assemble as obviously most the work was already done from manufacture. After and during assembly I completely checked the machine over for any defects, faults or issues and didn't find a single thing wrong with it which, correct me if I'm wrong, is quite surprising nowadays. I noticed that the mulch plug was a very easy removal or install whether I wanted to use the catc...

I bought mine second hand in almost new condition about 2 years ago. It's a reliable mower, starts every time. Mine is a "Hurricane" so it catches or mulches. To make the mower function as a mulcher when mowing the grass the blade disk has four fins bent up. This creates turbulent air inside the mower so grass cycles aournd to be mulched by the blades. Unfortunately wiht the catcher on this acts a bit like a helicopter so grass blows out of the mower before being caught. I spoke with Victa who were very helpful. You can buy a disk plate for about $50 that removes the mulcher function. A simpler option, I took the blade disk off and hit the four fins down flat with a hammer. Works perfectly.

Had this mower for 6 years and still going strong, i like how i don't have to mix oil with the petrol as it is a 4 stroke it can take straight petrol. I alternate between 2 of the heights depending on the season but it does have a mulch feature as well which is handy. all in all I would definitely recommend this bad boy.

I have had this mower (4 stroke 18" Hurricane) for three years and the only thing I have had to do is change the blades, oil, air filter, empty the catcher and fill it up with petrol. 3 pumps on the primer and a light pull on the cord and away she goes. Sometimes I just push the mower away from me as I hold the cord and thats enough to start it. I have a 5 acre house block and I have just spent 2 days mowing, some of it 3 feet high. I gave up before the mower did. I only wish it had a side ejector chute. The four blades also make a neat finish on my Queensland Blue lawn in my front yard.

Most unreliable mower I have ever used.Hard to start, does not turn off. My husband got shocked as the only way to turn it off was pulling the spark plug cap off. Has been in for a warranty service already- still a piece of rubbish. Not happy at all. Will take into local store to get serviced again.
Not a whole lot
Everything
Further to this review, I've had the mower services under warranty, which seemed to rectify some of the problems I first encountered. Still has a run on issue, but it does the job despite minor annoyances. Due for another service.

Bought this on sale and was attracted by the option of either mulching or use the catcher. The motor is 2 stroke, but is powerful enough to keep up even at normal walking pace. Mulching doesn't give as neat a finish as using the catcher, but is much quicker and good enough for normal mowing. Fuel consumption seems to be a bit lower than other mowers and the tank is a decent size so no need to refuel regularly. The only real downsides are the steel deck, which must be cleaned of grass after each use to prevent rust, and the plastic catcher doesn...
Read more't look strong enough to cope if any rocks etc are run over and thrown into the catcher. It might be OK with that sort of use, but I suspect not. Perfectly good enough for normal use in the suburbs however. Quick and efficient to use in mulching mode. Does the job as well as any other mower when using the catcher. Easy to start. Low fuel consumption. Nothing in particular apart from needing to keep the deck clean to prevent rust (as with all steel deck mowers).- 88 reviews

I got this on sale at Bunnings for $350.00 instead of $499 and I was sceptical about it as I was looking at a Masport but this one has a larger engine and is Briggs and Stratton and you get a 2 year warranty on the motor and 2 years on the body. I asked about what happens if something goes wrong and they said I would only have to take it with the receipt to the local lawn mower shop 5 minutes from my place which I have used before & they are good so I took a chance and I am very happy with this one. It starts first go everytime and is good on f...
Read moreuel and cuts very well and cuts the grass very fine. If it stays working like this I will be happy. Victa has a good name and so does Briggs and Stratton and I have a large yard and this does the job quickly and easily. Light weight not hard to start even though there is no primer button nothing yetI have had my mower for about 12 months and am happy with performance . However pulled cord has broken. Funnily it has started first time every time so the pull cord has not had too much use. It has probably only been used about 20 times. After three weeks still waiting on advice from Victa. Very dissappointing.
Happy with mowing
Poor quality build and poorer backup service

on 1st use it mowed the front yard i refueled and went to start the mower to do the back when the cord came out and stayed out, making the mower un-usable. Upon return i was told i will have to wait 14 days so victa could inspect the mower. This was less than 7 days after purchase and on the very first use of the mower.I paid $500 for a mower that broke down the first time it was used from a company that just kept reciting their policy when i asked for an exchange. This was an obvious manufacturers fault but the staff at Victa a call center ope...
Read morerator and her team leader would only explain their company policy as an attempt to assist me in this matter. In other words i as a customer came last. This fault may be just a one off but the lack of support and common sense of the staff at victa have assured i will not buy another victa product again. Mulch and Cut, Variable cut height Poor Build Quality, Poor Customer Supporthi..from what i have been reading ....you have had a little bit of bad luck with this mower....but its not victa you should be blaming for the starter system failing... but briggs and stratton as its ...
Read morethe motor that failed not the mower/victa....also waiting 14 days for a report to tell you that the starter is broken, and getting it repaired which may take even longer....would be also very upsetting, for any one. this is what any one can expect when purchasing from BULK stores...how ever if you buy a mower at any mower shop... they would have repaired or replaced it the next day at the latest... this is called..After Sale Service... you might pay $20-30 dollars more for the mower/product... but any mower shop would turn over back ward to help out their customers, and help out the best way possible....in any case i would take the mower to your local mower shop with the broken starter and they will repair this for you, i bet.... within a few short days and if you asked them nicely, maybe a few hours....for under $ 50.00..running better then ever... with you mowing by the weekend.. keep in mind victa, masport, rover, flymo, husqvarna, viking,ect,..... all mower manufactures use the brand BRIGGS AND STRATTON on their mowers which is the engine manufacturer, they are to blame for manufacturing defects on a failure in their engines... as long as its "not" due to misuse/accidental damage, by the the operator.... any warranty work can be done at any briggs and stratton warranty agent... which is usually any mower shop....in australia.... one does not have to take the mower back where they purchased it from... for warranty repairs to be done....a few phone calls to your local mower shops might give your more answers on how to get your mower fixed quicker...i like the size of the motor little bit bigger then the cheaper victa's,also there an easy mower to start, brand new first time start one pull and it started, mine did.and its not a heavy mower.
all round good looking mower,to be able to mulch as well.
cover over the motor.
