Fantastic car all around
I have owned my car for 2 years now and done 40,000km and it hasn't missed a beat. The fuel economy is excellent, usually around 6.5l/100km in town and 5.5l/100km highway driving. I also use it to tow my boat (500kg) and it does it with ease. I would recommend this car to anyone who wants an affordable yet comfortable hatch that is brilliant to drive.
Purchased in June 2021 for $27,000.00.

Not the most reliable car
This car has been disappointing - within the first 6 months of purchase the DSG gearbox decided to make some weird noises like a squealing noise - complained to the service department and a fault was lodge only to find that the clutch packs were damaged and required replacement. The replacement took 2 days thank goodness I was provided a loan vehicle.
Fast forward to 2 years - I would randomly drive and an error message would pop up on my dashboard which was so fast that I wasn't able to read it - took it in to get the error message scanned...Read more
- it picked up that my gear selector was faulty and throwing an electrical fault to the on board computer thinking that my car was in P whilst it was in motion. Had to get the entire unit replaced - thankfully under warranty otherwise it would have cost over $2K I would not recommend this car if you are planning to buy and keep the car for a long period of time such as over 6-10 years - if you are salary packaging or leasing it then why not - the car does drive well and comfortable - it has plenty of power and is very fuel efficient it is also a very refined car in it's category and feels very solid even at high speeds and in heavy wind and rain. You will also feel very secure to know that it is a very safe car and even safer if you bundle it with the safety pack. Overall - only purchase this car if you are willing to fork out money for repairs or if you are planning to lease it or have it for a short term. Not a good choice if you are looking for a long term durable vehicle.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Nice car but don’t get fooled
I own 2014 be golf 90 tsi.. bought it brand new from the dealer..Very nice car to drive, superb handling, cosy cabin, everything looks luxurious, big boot, nice touch screen, however, it has numerous issues: 1) turbo lag. Especially city driving 2) expensive to fix problems I terms of parts 3) expensive service annually around $400 minimum, 4) big issue with DSG..and if your has transmission filaure while your warranty is over then it would be really exp to fix.( mine had issue in transmission after 2 year..)Hence, I wouldn’t recommend especially any second hand purchase as well as brand new..hope this helps and I don’t work for any car companies..

Does what it says on the tin - a timeless car
Our first ever new car, we took advantage of a 1.0% finance deal from VW that meant it was actually cheaper for us in the long-run to buy a new car on finance rather than take out a loan to buy a second hand car a few years old. First thing you notice about the Golf is that the styling is conservative, but timeless - you see a Golf 10 or 20 years old and they look good for their age. Behind the wheel the car is surprisingly gutsy for it's specifications (1.4L Turbo), with the 6-speed manual box taking some time to get used to before coming into...Read more
its own. Firm but comfortable ride, with good brakes that I've had to slam on a couple of times to avoid errant motorists. Offerings from Kia or Hyundai may be better spec'ed, but the 92TSI still has enough bells and whistles to play with. Reversing camera, parking sensors and Apple CarPlay are the highlights - hard to imagine driving a car without these features now. All up a fantastic, smooth, reliable, car.Similar opinion? Refinement for budget price
Purchased new 21months ago, 6 speed manual in white with hubcaps, so the most basic model. Despite this all important comfort and safety features are included.
Engine performance, especially low down torque was very impressive, surprisingly felt as strong as the diesel version. Motorway of driving around town is all very comfortable with enough power. The handling and ride is terrific, you can really drive it to the limits and have some fun, you just go a bit slower than the people with GTI’s and R’s.
I swap out the wheels and tires almost i...Read more

Love this car
I have the auto Comfortline and I love it. I unfortunately wrote off my 2015 manual demo after a glorified fender bender. Luckily insurance replaced it with a brand new 2017 version, and the Comfortline is no longer available in manual. Now I'm used to auto I'm not sure I could go back. Fuel economy isn't quite as good as the manual but it's still fantastic. Get about 750 to a tank if I do just city driving. If I go between Melbourne and Geelong a few times I can get that up to 850kms off a tank. I always use 98 premium which costs more at the ...Read more
bowser but I think it works out cheaper with the milage I get. Love the quality of the build. Everything inside and out looks premium. Having Apply Car Play now is a great addition. Road noise is really quiet too. For mine, there isn't a better looking car in the same size and price range. Would definitely purchase again.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Good Overall but
Bought the brabd new comfortline version in 2016. It drives like a dream and fuel economic as we'd like it to be. The Automatic resting mode is quite irritating as we don't really need it but this little golf has more space than we thought as we managed to carry 2.4 metre length of timber in the car so it is quite big for its size

Great, zippy car.!
This car is fantastic for the price . 7 speed dsg gearbox is a delight . Considering it only has 92kw from its 1.4 l turbo it feels like 120kw due to the smooth transition from gears . Interior is ok, but packed with electronics rear parking sensors lane assist and optional parallel park assist. Fuel consumption is average 8litres / 100km which is pretty good . Interior cabin is quite large for a hatchback . Leg room is quite roomy than most small cars . Great reliability and I would certainly buy a VW Golf again in future. Highly recommend.!!

92TSI Manual
Very impressed. Grunty engine that makes power down really low. ( I stall the corolla after driving the Golf).
Good quality interior, handles great, amazing fuel economy. Don't let the premium fuel worry you. We run the 94 octane from BP and it is the same price as 91 most of the time. Average less than 5l phk.
We have the base model and couldn't be happier.

VW Golf 92TSI Comfortline (MY2017) with Driver Assistance Package option,....a mixed bag.
This is my first Golf, and will be used primarily for Uber. Delivery 2/2/2017 Cost about $31000 including DAP option.
Eary days but very impressed. Smooth, quiet, tons of power because of the turbocharger, and extremely electronically sophisticated.
Best points:
Smooth, ultra-quiet sound proofing, high quality interior. Lots of gadgets, audio system including 2 SD card slots, satnav, Hill holder dedicated button.
Great visibility and ergonomically a ten out of ten.
VW have all but removed the jerkiness on older models when taking off from standstill. The DSG gear changes are superb.
The Auto park brake means I will never roll backwards or forwards when taking off, again....Read more
I now have 40gb of music stashed on one tiny SD card in the glovebox, the other being for satnav maps. The CD player, also in the glovebox will probably never be used. Update: June 2017. Have now done 6400 kms, nearly all for Uber, not a single problem to report. The radar on the front has saved me from a front end crash on the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Have not been brave enough to even attempt the automatic parking feature. And i never use the utomatic stop-start engine feature, designed to save petrol, as it disturbs passengers when the engine suddenly starts when you want to move off from stationary. The eerie silence of this car when it is moving, still delights me. I am averaging 7.2 l / 100 kms, sometimes down to 6.8 ....sometimes up to 8. Doubtful points: The two instruction manuals that come with this vehicle are virtually unreadable, virtually a waste of time. Whoever signed off on these should be sacked. Even the indexes are incomplete, and if you try to look for logical sequences to complete a setup task, you won't find any, as all are obscured by mountains of warnings and caveats. Apple CarPlay is billed as a feture of the software on board, but, unlike its counterpart in the USA, the Australian version is crippled by a lack of apps that the VW hardware can use. It also is, at the moment, a waste of time, but hopefully will improve. Space saver spare tyre is simply not acceptable in the Australian market, where roads guarantee you will get a flat tyre at some point and it could be a long way from a garage to fix that tyre. Colour range is unexciting, drab, and cheerless, and expensive, unless you like plain white, which i chose, because I do. Where are the vibrant red, uplifting yellow etc etc? Dull and conservative is my summation. DAB radio should now be standard, it costs very little to build in to any system, and beats AM and FM by a long shot. I don't mind buying 95 octane for this car, despite the fact it's going to be an Uber vehicle, but some people might. Overall: 9.5 out of 10, because the driving experience is so overwhelmingly beautiful, whatever the small imperfections. Update: September 2017 Fuel economy has improved a lot, can actually get around 5.5 litres/ 100 km on an expressway run at the 80kph speed limit. 2 defects discovered. The rear hatch glass leaks in the carwash, not a lot but enough to warrant repair. And, the infotainment system sometimes just dies. Which means No rear view camera, no radio cd sd music, no satnav display. This happened with regularity over the colder months of Winter. I read online that it is a common fault dating back to 2015. Why haven't they fixed it by now? It can be temporarily fixed by pushing and holding in the power on button on the infotainment console for 15 seconds continuously. It's a type of reset for the whole infotainment system, but its a fault none the less. Car goes in for its first (15000km) service next week, costs $320, and hopefully they can address the faults mentioned above. After 14,800 kms, it is still a brilliant drive, and no minor issues can detract from that perfect dynamic balance, and joyful, engine. Update: November 2017 I have downrated my rating to a 4. This is still a brilliant drive in so many ways, but the VW dealer in Artarmon on Sydney’s North Shore, where I bought it has been extremely underwheelming. The leak in the rear hatch glass has been traced to the high-mounted brake light which is defective, but the dealer was unable to replace it at the first service in September, and it remains an ever increasing leak. They ordered the part back then, but failed to tell me it had arrived. I guess im supposed to be psychic. Meanwhile, whenever it rains the rear parcel shelf gets soggy and perhaps is now growing a micro crop of mould. The infotainment system also wasnt fixed in September at the service. It still just stops working when it chooses, together with the navigation program and reversing camera. They tell me it needs a software update but have no idea when that will be available. This is despite this failure being commonly reported in VW forums as far back as 2015. Is it VW or a slack dealer? I don't know. I suspect the dealer, who now has my money and couldnt give a crap. So im upset with the dealer, but still think the car is a brilliant drive. Maybe it should be 3 stars. I’ll see how long this dealership continues to stuff me around. Update April 2022 Sorry Golf, I’ve downgraded you to 3 stars. Took it to the dealer for a “B” service and because of an error message i kept getting popping up on the dashboard screen. It was never there long enough to read but the long and short of it is that my baby has a serious gearbox issue after 2.5 years and only 38k kilometres. The Mechatronics unit which controls the DSG gearbox, is dying. This could eventually cause the gearbox to stop working altogether or just stop certain gears being selected. This also poses a serious safety issue if it happens on the freeway, as well as causing the loss of thousands of dollars of resale value. Now this is a problem that has plagued VW and Audi DSG gearboxes for years, but they still havent sorted it! Try Googling VW Mechatronic and you will see what i mean. I am told VW Australia has authorised for my unit to be replaced, but the cost would have been $4000 to $6000 if the car had been out of warranty or if they had refused to come to the party and pay for the repair. So it goes in for surgery in 2 weeks. So its still a brilliant drive, while it hangs in, but goes back to 3 stars. Do i have confidence this wont happen again in 2 years when the car is way out of warranty.? No. The Internet is full of sad stories of owners who have had this problem twice. Living in hope. Update Oct 2022. The dreaded killer Error message signifying the Mechatronics issue withe gearbox is back. 3 times last week, despite the Mechatronics module being replaced earlier thisvyear. As thecwarranty is nearly up, i am concerned the gearbox will pack up and this problem will cost me a lot of money. ( Perhaps 3 to 6 thousand dollars to replace as this is major work involving major disassembly.) Also, the intermittent problem with the reversing camera persists. Mostly it works, sometimes, perhaps 1 in 20 times, it simply doesn't. At the last service some months ago they investigated again and told me again it is a software issue for which they have no update yet. Which suggests all Golfs of this vintage have the issue. Sounds like crap. Anyway, the car is booked in yet again for investigation of these problems. If nothing else i want it established in the paper trail that these problems were reported shortly before the warranty expired. I am not hopeful of a good outcome, and having worked on the driveway of a large German car makers service department in Sydney, i think i know what i am talking about. But i will pursue this even out of warranty if necessary.Purchased in January 2021 at VW Artarmon for $31,000.00.

It's a poor box. Stay away from it. Only 9k and already in for clutch replacement
Driving experience is good compare to other cars within the same price tag and engine wise. But the DSG gearbox problem still persists and stay away from Vw golf. Even capped price service are pricy. Next car will be a Japanese. However, Service people and we're helpful and they straight ways told me that they will change the clutch. I guess many other people must have come with the same problem and they got no choice.

MY16 Golf Comfortline
Before I purchased my new Golf TSI Comfortline in March this year, I spent many hours searching various motoring websites for car reviews, and Forum sites for a list of cars that might suit me (e.g.; Mazda3, Kia Cerato, Hyundai i30 & Elantra, Corolla – and I even test-drove a Kia Si Sportage Diesel).
I was looking for a vehicle that could provide me with good ride comfort, low cabin noise, good handling & performance, good economy, braking & safety features.
None of the cars I tested could provide the overall combination of smoothness, ...Read more
quietness, ride comfort, equipment levels & performance of the Golf Comfortline. Even though the DSG in the Golf was smoother and better behaved than the DSG I had in my Octavia, It can still require some concentration when parking and taking off from a standstill, and I can understand why some don’t like it. I found the best way to take-off smoothly from a standstill / roundabout is to press gently on the accelerator for a split second and then take-off. I am aware of Volkswagen’s poor customer service & DSG reliability problems in the past, but since I am in a fortunate situation where I can trade-in my cars every 2 1/2 to 3 years, long term reliability it not an issue for me- but driving enjoyment is.Similar opinion? VW Golf air conditioning and software issue
I bought my VW Golf in Nov 2014. Still consider it is a very good car. Smooth and powerful. I would like to share my experience regarding the air conditioning / software conflict experience . I took my VW Golf for first year service in November 2015. Before the service, everything was excellent but after the service the air conditioning has been on and off not working properly. No cool air but hot air fan out . I didn't realise the actual problem thinking weather was too hot, Until this month, I couldn't put up with it and took it back to VW f...Read more
or checking. They have identified there was 'incorrect soft ware' in the car and need an updating . They said no mechanical defect other than 'Computer Software incorrect). I have to believe it was a human error by service staff (VW) when my car was serviced in last Novmeber....keeping figures crossed, after the software update, the air conditioning runs well so far.Similar opinion? Average car at best
92 tsi my16. Infotainment system screen does not start up 20% of the time and remains blank. Today the car has broken down with a transmission error, put the car in drive and no power, free revs. For a new car less than 3 months old this is a joke.
Good thing the car comes with vw assist as no doubt I will be making many more claims (If I decide not to sell the car first). You have been warned.
Upside, vw people were friendly.

Volkswagen Golf 92TSI MY16 (2016) Infotainment & Software Issues
Bought a BRAND NEW Golf92TSI MY16 less than 2 weeks ago. 4 days into driving and the reverse camera died. Was told to wait for an update. Next week, the infotainment system would not shutdown when the car was locked, and car would unlock by itself! DO NOT BUY! Horrible car!
