Vw forgot its wolks...
Good luggage boot. Vehicle's ok if it is not fully loaded: breaking system not designed adequately . Too noisy all over. Electric hand break release switch faulty on 99% of Passat cars.
Consumption really good but only at funeral speed.
Suspension system weak.
Good the immobiliser and anti-breaking in systems.
Key and remote is too expensive, don't loose your key, it could cost around 5% of the car value.
If you are going to buy a second hand car, before you sign, make sure the double complete set of remotes (2) are included (you may ask to provide them by a contract caveat or direct rice reduction.
Consider the cost of fitting a tow bar, it is an other inflated price item sold by dealers.

This European car runs originally on eurodiesel, more clean, thin and refined than ordinary trucks and heavy machinery fuel. Good size car, commute well in heavy traffic. Electric hand break release switch faulty.

I have been a big aussie 6 man for ever, we bought the 2.0 lt turbo wagon with leather and sunroof. We did a trip from Sydney to the Gold Coast recently with 2 adults, 2 kids and roof box full of gear and returned 7.4ltres per 100k's. There's heaps of power and it's got everything that opens and shuts and a 5star safety rating. So impressed I just bought the V6 4motion (all wheel drive) sedan for myself. Goodbye Holden and Ford we've had a great 20years but our time has come.
Just bought my second one

I have 2006 2.0 Litre Turbo with leather trim. I have traveled 40,000 km and I had no dramas with the car. The 2.0 litre turbo has good acceleration and is economical to run. The wagon has lots of room for 5 people and luggage. I am very pleased with the car.
Pleasant to drive and very practical.
A little front wheel tug under acceleration.

Passat TDI Wagon
A beautiful car. Mine has Adaptive Cruise, Front assist, Lane assist, Park 2, The drive package, Xenon swiveling lights. Bluemotion stop start, Electric memory seats, Auto electric tailgate.
And a bloody awful satnav that's still over a year out of date even with the latest upgrade.
Very economical getting under 6L per 100Km

Very economical for mid sized wagon
Purchased car second hand 12 months ago and have been very happy with build quality, economy and power. Ride and creature comforts are good.
Overall very practical wagon and much more economical and safer than a 4x4.
Great economy, quality workmanship, very safe feeling when driving
Use of electronics where not needed, i.e electric handbrake switch often malfunctions and locks brakes on. This apparently is a common problem. Dealer service costs are overpriced

I had the electric handbrake switch replaced and no problems since. Still this this is a crazy idea.

Love the car and will possibly line up for my third when I sell this one. Definitey would be one of the safest wagons I have owned. VW stands up to their reputation.
A comfortable car to drive with plenty of safety features to rave about. You can feel the vehicle stick to the road, this is my second one in the last three years. My vehicle is a turbo diesel which runs on a oily rag, can not believe the fuel consumption, plenty of space in side the vehicle. I have driven plenty of vehicles and could say this is one of the best I have had as a...Read more

Good
Had my 2 litre TDI wagon for just on three months and 10k of mostly highway interstate travel and I love it. It is comfortable, responsive and frugal when it comes to fuel consumption. I am 6'3" and find that there is plenty of room, even with rear seat passengers. It is returning 5.5litres/100Km on the highway and about 8 around town. At this point in time, no regrets whatsoever!!
Good tight finish. Great fuel consumption figures. Comfortable on long runs. DSG gearbox is a real winner, keeps the engine inside the torque curve making them both a good match-up. Never knew a Diesel could perform so well.
None at this point in time.(dont want to give it a 5 just yet as it is still 'early days').

Good
Love this car. Easy to drive, great for short people like me as the seats adjust up, plenty of room for baby capsual and pusher, with enough boot space for shopping still.
Everything! Heated seats are great in winter, power front seats are a treat. Plenty of power, and east to drive. Very safe. Doors open a long way, making it easy to get car capsuals in and out. Great family car with lots of room.
Air con can be a bot tricky to work out, but otherwise, nothing.

Hi Steve,
I'm not if my question directly to you last night would have reached you, so thought I'd also do as a question to your review. Apologies up front if you read my question twice....
I have a 2009 Passat TDI 125kw with DSG6. Done 205,000 km and I've had since start 2014 with 80,000km.
Been a great car and had no issues since 2014. But then all of a sudden the gearbox decided to die three weeks ago. Flashing gear selector on the dash, and only going into first gear.
Took it to the auto transmission mechanic who suggested after doing a scan that it needed changing of one of the solenoids for $950 fitted. Presume this is one of the solenoid a in the mechatronic. This didn't fix problem. So they said $4500 for new mechatronic unit or take car to wreckers for $500.
Have since taken car to small mechanic who is looking for second hand DSG to install.
I see you replaced DSG. Can you please share any advice, such as where to source. Auto Trans man told me I can't do it.
Hi, which dsg gearbox oil the best for vw passat b6 .2006 .2.0tdi diesel?
1 answer
checkout runautoparts on ebay for VW gearbox oil and filters. I source most other genuine vw parts from e-bock in Europe to sidestep VW dealerships and exorbitant prices for VW spares in Australia.

Does anyone else drive a VW in country areas? We have a 2012 Passat Wagon, and it draws in dust like nothing else. Does anyone have an Alltrack, and does it draw in dust?? Thanks....

Hi, we drive mainly in city areas and if you are talking about the vehicle throwing up dust behind it as it's being driven, we do notice the rear becomes dirty in less than 10 days after washing it where as the rest of the car is relatively clean. If you are talking about dust being drawn into the cabin whilst driving (without windows open, of course), this is unusual and not meant to happen, I'd be taking it up with Volkswagen. We haven't driven on a dirt track of any substantial length in ours to know if it happens to our car. The only other thing that occurs to me is that we notice the chassis will flex slightly at low speed when manoeuvring diagonally over changes in gradient (e.g. cross-overs that are steep compared to the road, or curbs or sharp speed bumps) causing the doors to move slightly and I can hear the 'pop' as the seals release and then re-engage, maybe this is happening on dirt roads?
Thanks Joanne, yes, I've noticed the 'flex' thing happening too! Good word for it, as I never knew how to describe it ;) We live on a farm, so it's doing a fair bit of dirt driving. Awesome handling, just a dust sucker. Have taken it up with VW, new seals etc etc, and lots of photos taken, door tightened, however, it never really fixes the problem. I'm scared we'll inherit the same problem if we get another Passat or the Alltrack :( Hence putting this question out there :)
