Great family car!!
Loving my Volkswagen Passat Alltrack. We bought it just before having a baby and it’s such a great family car. It’s comfortable and runs smoothly. Very spacious in the boot.

Great car, no significant problems
I purchased in August 2017, new. Mine is build year 2017 and model year 2017. My km is now around 26k. I know this is not a high mileage but nonetheless I have had zero significant problems.
The only problems I have had so far:
- Creaky hinge on the drivers side (fixed in seconds at the dealership)
- Left back seat would not drop when pulling the lever from the boot. This was a simple problem of cable slipping out under the upholstery on the back seat. Again, fixed in seconds at the dealership (but has happened twice). You just pop it back in ...Read more

Passat R-line, Luxurious
I use this Passat R-line sedan for work and for private use. It is very comfortable but most of all, very economical. I can get a 1000 km out of a tank of petrol.
I love the luxury package, the memory seat position, the stylish dashboard, the driver assist options, though at times it thinks it is smarter than I am and tries to make decisions for me, ie, changing lanes in traffi:, if the car thinks the other car is too close, it would try to stop you from moving to the other lane. However, once you are use to driving this smart car, you will get use to the intellect. It is stylish and a pleasure to drive.

Fantastic car
Recently purchased the Passat R-Line wagon to carry our two bikes. This is the best car I have every owned, the comfort is just outstanding and the safety and mod cons is terrific. The car has a lot of space, more than the Tiguan we were going to purchase originally. This car has every luxury in it and is just a blast to drive, would highly recommend this vehicle. The only negatives are the Satnav leaves a bit to be desired but I just plug in my phone and use Google maps through Apple car play, fixes that issue and also the car does not have a DAB radio which is slightly annoying. Other than those two slight problems that car is amazing.

Remarkably good
A limousine like car with a smooth silent ride, a spacious interior and cavernous boot. An overall average of 7.2 ltr/km suggests economy rather than performance but it has surprising acceleration especially when overtaking. Fit and finish are excellent, well above others in the market of a similar price
BTW the car was cheaper in Australia than its equivalent in the UK or Germany! The car has been faultless so far at 50k with not even a rattle. We were so impressed that we bought the latest Polo as a second car

VW PASSAT
Coming from a 12 year old Honda accord I drove just about every car out there in trying to find the perfect upgrade. I eventually drove my Passat Wagon and it was perfect. Ticked all the boxes and was a standout compared to the others. It was zippy and no whining noise when changing gears at any speed, quiet as, so smooth a ride, it feels like it is gliding along. It was the entry level 132 TSI 1.8 Turbo auto. I opted for the advanced driving package as didn't want the Leather seats and Sun roof in the Comfortline model. One thing I noticed was...Read more
some vibration in the front seats just under the knees but fiddled with the seat settings and seemed to resolve that one. Only had it 3.5 weeks and done 1423 klm and now have a squeak in the drivers seat as your body moves eg when turning a corner, going round aroundabout. I did have an issue with my trailer lights not working and the dealer had a play. Not sure if they did anything but concluded that if I plug it in, turn on car and wait about a minute the lights will then work albeit with a warning light on the dash. It sounded a bit odd but that is exactly what happens and did again today. Still seems odd but I can live with it. The car is very comfortable, very easy to drive, has the safety features you now can get in most cars, Has plenty of legroom and a boot space you could almost sleep in, well a kid could and that is without folding down the back seats. I have only 3 trips of around 200klms but just find it a great driving experience. It takes about 1500klms to wear in I was told with the economy improving as it gets its act together. I have had it showing 7.6l/100klm around town but seems to settle around 8.x on trips so far. Not sure how accurate the readings really are as haven't done enough klms yet. With 15,000klms or 12mths between each service I thought that was a pretty reasonable running cost combined the expected cost/100klms to improve as I tick over a few more. This is the petrol version as drove a diesel and thought that was real noisy, sluggish and decided not for me. I would recommend you at least test the PASSAT based on my experience so far.2 comments
Since my last update I have now travelled 12500klms including a trip to South Australia travelling 5500klms over a 3 week period so the car had a great workout and it behaved perfectly. The economy wa... Read more
s great (ave 7.2ltr/100klms), the ride was extremely comfortable and am still very happy with my purchase. 2 Large suit cases plus 3 shopping bag size bags fitted nicely in the boot. The car is very quiet on the open road which was a major reason for the purchase. The only gripe I have is that there is a engine whining type noise which is noticeable as you slow down and reach about 65klms then just under. Once you notice it, it does bug you. You can also hear the noise as you then accelerate but once you hit about 70klms+ you don't hear it, The noise happens on all types of road surfaces so not convinced it is tyre noise related. I will mention it when get serviced at 15000klm's but expecting to just have to live with it. Could turn the radio up loud I guess.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Tech, comfort, economy
You would love the driving experience, I do mean that on the highway, over 60kph; the gearbox is still a little bit worried me, as it is running not smooth in gear 1 and 2 under 40kph. But other than that, Passat is a perfect car for the family, I am having a B8 Passat Wagon TSI Comfortline. I love it so much (as mentioned, a little bit worried about the gearbox - DSG 7 speed.) 16500km, average petrol consumption: 8L per 100km; carplay, andrio auto; full safety features. btw auto adjustment seat for driver only. lol

Love it
I am a international student studying in Australia from 2016. The reason I chose VW is that i believe both the quality and appearance, as well as the driving experience in German auto brands.
The car is so quite and steady wherever places i drive both including the country roads or high way. The leg room is wonderful and it is quiet fuel efficiency on the highway.

2016 132 tsi. Very disappointing
This car consumes an average of 1.6 litres of recommended oil between service intervals and deposits soot all over the boot of the vehicle, particularly noticeable as mine is white. My vehicle has also consumed 600 mls of coolant in 6 months/ 40000 klms despite being back to the dealership 3 times to find the cause to no avail. I was told at the dealership it was normal for coolant to need topping up. Last time it went from max level in the reservoir to minimum in 10000 klms meaning i have to take it in to be refilled between service intervals....Read more
Volkswagen also provide literature with the vehicle that oil consumption up to 1 litre per 1000 klms is acceptable meaning it could consume 19 litres of new oil at service and between intervals. The recommended oil is difficult to source and very expensive. I find this unacceptable on a new vehicle. My DSG box started intermittently making noise when shifting down from 4 to 3 at 30000 klms. Dealership said they checked it on computer and no error appeared so they said it's ok." Computer says!" I am now dealing with VW head office and the latest is they want to take my car for up to 2 weeks to see if they can sort the issues. I am a full time UBER driver and purchased this vehicle new specifically for the job and cannot afford to not work for 2 weeks. They have already had the car three times and have not found the leak. December 27th 2017 Update: This is a lemon to be avoided Just an update on previous report. Car has now been back 6 times for coolant consumption issue. Have had the thermostat housing and water pump replaced under warranty as they believed these were the issue but it has made no difference and the car now with 60000 klms continues to consume coolant at the same level. Today the car was in for the 6 th time for pressure testing and yet again no fault was found to explain the consumption but I have printed information from the dealership stating coolant consumption of 500 ml per 1000 klm is acceptable. So you could have to put 7.5 litres of coolant in, between service intervals and VW consider this acceptable The car also had a front wheeel bearing replaced today and a leaking oil cap which has been leaking for a long time but the dealership refused to replace it until I got VW involvedSimilar opinion? 132TSI Comfortline R Line Wagon
Great vehicle for our small city family who do some highway travel to visit family. VW have refined the Passat package to a point where it is a very refined drive and feels like a more expensive vehicle. R Line package is pretty good with leather/heated/massage seats, slight lowering etc Ride is subsequently a little bit harsher though. ACC is brilliant for the city commute and fuel economy is v.good at 7 city and down to 5's on the highway. This is quite literally a superb vehicle and clearly the product of much revision. The only downside was having to deal with the VW dealership who made buying the vehicle unpleasant. VW Australia needs to take control of dealership behaviour as they have and are continuing to damage the brand.

This car really is perfect, I truly love driving it everyday.
Love the features, love the space and practicality of this wagon.
Easy to drive, comfortable and beautiful lines.
Great for city driving and long haul.
Great value and engineering.
This car is absolutely a must to test drive, anyone who drives it will be surprised at its capability for a car of this size, remember it's only a 1.8L turbo 4cylinder engine...

Complete family car
This generation of Passat is a great car to drive. The steering has great feel and the car is still very comfortable to travel in. It has enough power to overtake on any type of road. my car is consuming around 7 litres per 100 after 10,000kms. The car requires premium fuel so add that to the running costs.
Overall its a very quiet car that can take in 5 people comfortably.

Good car let down by reliability issues.
First off, this is a great drivers car - handles well and flexible turbo engine. It's extremely well appointed with both luxury and technology. I have the Luxury and R-Line pack and there is not much else you can get for the money in this class.
I've had the car 6 months and already had numerous faults including:
1. Engine Oil Light after 8000Km, currently consuming 100ml per 1000Km which for a brand new car is appalling. I change cars every 3 years and I've never had any of my other cars need an oil top up between services.
2. DSG went in...Read more

Great European car for less. Value for money, loads of features
Got Passat B8 MY17 2.0 TDI with luxury pack. Inside out great for the price tag. Powerful 2.0 Diesel engine. Layout great, comfort great, features great, with message chair. I had Q7(MY11), A6(MY14), Amarok(MY13), LC200(MY11) and I did not think of Passat the first place. It is not as quite as Audi, and the sound system Audi is better (S-line), other than that, I rate it better than Audi, especially for similar luxury and power of A6, I paid $30k less.
Safety features are great, Phone connects (wired) to media center allowing you to use pho...Read more

Comfort features including massage chair, heated seats, automatic reverse parking, courtesy interior lights, huge back seat space with great leg room, sport style bucket seat, etc. Bi Xenon head lights are great, super bright and white, cornering lights are bright enough to see clear and far at night when turning. Great tail light design. Courtesy lights under mirrors/handles. Other feature beats more expensive rival including full size alloy spare rather than spare inflate kit.Similar opinion? Good Car.
Smooth driving car that is fuel efficient and quiet. The dashboard is set out well and easy to use. The car has been reliable so far and looks stylish. The main problems with the car is that there is an intermittent vibration/rattle within the dash on the drivers side. I have yet to take the vehicle for its first service that is due in about six months time so I will have this checked out. The automatic cut out for the engine whilst the car is stationary can be a nuisance as you have to manually deactivate it every time you turn the car on. The car handles very well and has a large boot as well which is perfect as a family car.

Great technology!
Passat 132Tsi, R-line and with the luxury pack: very well equipped vehicle, that is truly up there with the Mercedes C200, the BMW 320 and the Audi A4, at much less a price. The finish is outstanding, the drive exciting, and the technology top notch - ACC and lane departure in particular makes the vehicle semi-autonomous, and the all round sensors and anti collision systems have already saved me from reversing into traffic. The active instrument display is the future right now, and the interior beats at least one of the above, much more expensive vehicles. This is my 8th VW, and each has demonstrated improved innovation and safety features, and been extremely reliable

It's fast enough for diesel 7.7sec 0-100!

Stunning and Elegant Sedan Ever Built
Volkswagen Passat is the most stunning and elegant ever built because it gives a pleasuring drive plus comfort and safety for the driver to drive this beautifully built Sedan. Volkswagen Passat is far more better than the Jaguar XF, BMW 5 Series, Mercedes E Class and Honda Accord because of its price tag.

Very smooth "dog friendly" car
When I read this review, I had a grin from ear to ear. There's something about reading from people who know dogs how they capture the unique personalities that makes them first, dogs, and second, characters!
So onto the review. The new B8 Passat is an extremely well engineered car that is smooth, efficient, comfortable, has a great ride & handling balance and - dare I say it - sporty & fun to drive.

est days of VW ownership are the day you buy it and the day you get rid of it". So you think you're getting all this quality at a cost: reliability! After 33,000km, I've yet to experience any problems. It's rattle free, the engine is syrupy smooth, and it's always a drive to look forward to. Seriously – I can look toward to a humdrum drive like taking my daughter to dance two suburbs away. When I bought the Passat, it didn’t really have any stand-out features. The styling’s not gunna break any hearts, it’s not gunna give you bragging rights at the pub, and it sure as hell won’t win any standing 400m street drags but hey – it’s always been fun, reliable, comfortable and yes... just a little bit special.Similar opinion? did the R-line package reduce the ride comfort due to lowering of suspension/larger wheels?
2 answers
New tyres seemed extremely noisy but rode well. Noise ended up being right rear wheel bearing. Apparently not unusual for new tyres and wheel align to affect wheel bearings on vehicles with higher mileage. Hope this helps.... Cheers.
The stiffer suspension gives a better handling especially during cornering. For me, the stiffer suspension actually offered a better ride comfort due to less rolling. But of course if your main requirement is for a softer rides, This may not offer that.

n the price of the car you'd think that a quality mat should be provided as standard. If buying again I'd make sure I negotiated as part of the deal their expensive quality mats instead. I made mention of the LED trailer lights being a small issue but surely when selling a car into the Aussie market the manufacturer should make sure their vehicle works with Aussie gear. I was told the computer detecting the lights are designed for European tow gear not LED ... To solve the problem, costs you another $280 so negotiate that extra they don't tell you about at sale time ... very annoying that I was caught out. I have now done 2600 Klms since April 15th and still happy with the vehicle. On one trip to the footy I noticed the petrol usage got down to 6.7l/100 klm so was pretty happy with that. Around the town it is around 10L/100
