Baby Q Q120

Hi there, can a longer gas hoze work ok with baby Q ? From a 4.5 kg cylinder. I have been told the 3 metre hose looses too much pressure. Travelling about in Oz, there are a lot of windy spots which challenges any bbq. Any experiences on this topic? Cheers and thanks

Baby Q Q120

Hi! Our weber baby q is bought in 2012 and The exterior and interior beige paint is flaking like crazy. We have use it often. Now that we have young ones I am concern about exposing them to lead / cadmium paint from the flaking interior and exterior lid paint which is quite likely to have contaminated food cooked on the grill in one way or another. Can you advise us if the beige paint on the Weber q and also other materials/ coating used on the Weber q is lead free (such as the glaze used on the enamelled porcelain in the inner lid? )Will the flaking beige paint be a health risk to our family? Thank you!

1 answer
Weber
Weber Barbecues A.Weber

Hi C L, thanks for your question.

Just to put your mind at ease, Weber USA have not used lead or cadmium since the 1990's.

The inside of the Q lids have never been painted although there is a small amount of overspray around the rim.
If you are experiencing a 'flaking' substance, it is more than likely a build up of carbon that is peeling off. This is a bit stubborn to clean, but should come off with some good old-fashioned elbow grease (and maybe a little bit of Q Cleaner).

If the outside of your lid is flaking, this should not occur, especially in a model from 2012. This may still be covered under warranty, so if you could please call our Customer Service team on 1300 301 290 and we can take it from there.

Thanks again!

Hi Rhonda, thanks for your question.
We recommend that you use LPG cylinders with a minimum capacity of 4.5 kg and a maximum capacity of 9 kg.
New LPG cylinders can be purchased full; empty LPG cylinders can be refilled or exchanged. You may choose to purchase a spare LPG cylinder so that you don't run out of fuel in the middle of cooking a meal.

We hope that helps answer your question. If you need any further information, please call our Customer Service team on 1300 301 290 (toll-free).

Baby Q Q120

Bought a 2nd hand Weber Q 1200 which has been a bit stubborn to light. BBQ is quite clean inside. Ignition makes clicking sound but only lighting after few attempts. Any tips? Also when lighting and control knob is on start position should I push the control knob in at the same tight as pressing ignition button?

1 answer
Weber
Weber Barbecues A.Weber

Hi Andy - best to check the burner tube holes to ensure that every hole is completely clear of any debris as well - a metal paper clip does the trick to clear. Also, check that the clicking is producing a spark - it should hit the burner tube - the ignition is located in the left hand side of the unit. If there's gas flowing then it will light no problems.
And yes, when you turn the control knob onto the START HIGH position, immediately press the ignitor - if you wait it can over gas the unit and it won't light.

Baby Q Q120

We love our Webber Baby Q (120 I think is the model but currently away from home)but are very disappojnted the exterior of the lid is very badly discoloured. Is it possible to clean with something or can this be replaced?

1 answer
Weber
Weber Barbecues A.Weber

Hi Christine - the answer to both is yes. It can be cleaned, or replaced. Try cleaning first obviously - grab some Weber Q Cleaner, it's a spray bottle, and you can leave the solution on the lid for up to 4 hours - which eats away at the grim build up, then wash off with hot soapy water. If that doesn't work, then some stores do still have the Stubborn Smoke Stain Remover which Weber sold for some years, it has an abrasive component to it which can get rid of deeper stains. We do not produce this anymore so it may not be available everywhere.
In terms of replacement, best to visit a Weber Specialist Dealer, or call our customer service team on 1300 301 290.

Baby Q Q120

We have a Weber baby Q which we really love. Cook on it all the time either at home or away in the caravan. My only problem is that the flame goes out after lighting. Quite a trap for the unwary. Packs quite a whallop if you don't realise and go to light it again. Is this normal and should I just be more vigilant? It's a bit of a nuisance checking all the time

2 answers

I have not had that problem, thankfully. I always ensure it is out a direct breeze just to make sure. If that isn't the issue I would definitely have it checked by Weber, too much risk not to get it sorted.

Weber
Weber Barbecues A.Weber

Hi Rosie - no that shouldn't happen. Could be the spot you have it in if it's particularly windy, but should be fine - so best to call our customer service team on 1300 301 290 to chat through whats going on and get it sorted.
A possible reason could be the burner tube being blocked - which can happen over time with use - this would restrict the gas flow and possibly mean that the flame would blow out.

Baby Q Q120

My older Baby Q shows Q100 on the product but my receipt shows Q120. What was the difference? Also it appears that you can now purchase Weber baby Q convection trays suitable for Q1000/Q1200 models only. Is there another alternative for the older Q100 & Q120? (That is apart from the alfoil with holes cut in it).

Mike_R

Hi Jenny, you can buy the Baby Q100 (standard) or the Baby Q1200 (with the Roasting Hood & themoniter), just has a slightly higher lid for roasting this is the one i have.
As for the foil trays, i am sure you could get somthing similar from your local $2 shop or Red Dot if you have one close buy that would fit, for half the cost of the Origanal.

Regards mike R

Weber
Weber Barbecues A.Weber

Hi Jenny - yep the only differences between the Q100 and the Q120 were the 120 had a higher lid with a thermometer in it, and it had an electronic ignition instead of the piezo ignition on the Q100.
The grill setup on the older style Q100/Q120 is different to the newer style Q1000/Q1200 - and therefore we do have convection trays for BOTH still available. This is needed because the holes that are pre stamped into the convection trays that allow the fats and juices to drain away are different for both.
Check out your local Weber Specialist Dealer - they generally stock both.

Weber
Weber Barbecues A.Weber

Hi Tim - unfortunately we are unable to supply or work on any Weber product that is not approved by the AGA for operation in Australia or New Zealand. All overseas models have different hoses, regulators and importantly different gas manifolds that are designed and approved to be used in those countries, to run with the specific gases, and pressures that they have.
I'm sorry we can't offer any help in these cases. Feel free to give our customer service team a call to discuss on 1300 301 290.

Baby Q Q120

G'day folks,

I have trying to find out with no luck whether i can run my Q120 off a disposable gas canister instead of a gas bottle.

I have found these gas canisters but can only find them on a UK website. Does anyone know if they are available in AUS?

The canisters say baby Q on them so do they fit the q's in the uk?

I use my Q a mainly for camping and picnics and it's a bit a pain having to take a gas bottle with me to the park or where ever, for it to be truly portable it would be better to not have to cart a gas bottle around aswell.

Can anyone tell me if I can get a adapter or something to fit a disposable gas canister to my Q? And why don't they come with this option in AUS?

Thanks in advance, Lou.

Hi Lou!
I did not even know one could acquire a disposable gas canister, I've not seen them in Ozzie-land, but then again, am no expert. Also have no idea if they fit the q's in the UK - I do know that different countries have different (safety) standards, for instance the Babyq's sold here have to conform to Aussie standards which I think are different, for instance, from the States. I am really sorry that I cannot be of more assistance, suffice to say, I am still adoring my BabyQ which is the envy of all my neighbours.
Kind regards for a happy weekend!

Weber
Weber Barbecues A.Weber

Hi Lou, and thanks Lisa for your response.
It's correct that all gas appliances, including our barbies, must be approved by the AGA to Australian Standards, and the model of the Q's that you have seen OS have not been approved for use in Australia. I understand your feedback - but unfortunately there is no way around needed a gas bottle to run the units.... they can however run on a 4.5kg bottle which is fairly small.

Baby Q Q120

Have been using the Q120 for 3 years and love it. Used for everyday cooking at home and camping, but now I find it has slowed down cooking everything, doesn't seem as big a flame / not as hot - changed gas bottles, no better. it's not too dirty considering the work its done. what should I look for or fix?

1 answer
Weber
Weber Barbecues A.Weber

Hi Wayne - I'm confident your Baby Q needs a really good service. These barbies are actually quite simple - four things contribute to heat output. Gas bottle, hose and regulator, the manifold (or valve) and the burner tube itself. You've fixed the gas bottle, and the hose/reg and the manifold very rarely have any issues, so we'll leave them till later - which leaves the burner tube. Have a look along the burner tube at all the little holes that the flame come out of, you will most likely see a difference in the shape or size of the holes. Over time little bits of fats and oils have built up on the surface and started to clog up the holes. Take your grill brush first and give it a good go all over the top of the holes, then get a metal paper clip and poke through each hole to completely clear each hole. You can also remove the entire burner tube and clean it in hot soapy water - I'm out of space here so email me at [email protected] for more info. Cheers, Dave

Baby Q Q120

I'm living in the USA at the moment, was thinking about buying Q120 and bringing it back to Oz. It uses LPG gas canister over here though. Can I buy the canisters in Oz or the necessary hose connections to connect to a refillable LPG gas bottle. Regards Stephen

5 answers
Weber
Weber Barbecues A.Weber

G'day Stephen,
I'm not sure if you can actually buy the canisters over here - I haven't seen them for use for barbies before. But even if you can, the cost of them would be a lot higher than normal bottle gas. In Australia these units come with the hose and regulator supplied in the box, so that they can be hooked up to a normal gas bottle (4.5kg etc) and although that means something else to take with you, they last lot longer than the little tanks, and here at least, work out a lot more economical. The other fact that I must mention is that we at Weber in Australia are unfortunately not licensed to convert your unit to an Aussie one, we are only allowed to work on units which have the Australian certification on them. So I'm not sure if you bought it over here that you would be able to convert it here, and if you found a way to do it, to would not be covered by warranty here, or by insurance.
Hope that helps.

That's crazy! Why would you buy a "portable" bbq and have to lug a 4kg gas bottle along with it?

Tony
Tony

After a little research, I believe the Primus 2202 Gas Canister will suit the Baby Q. It was mentioned in the Weber Owners Manual as an option to the Weber version (which obviously isn't available in oz).

It's pricey, but sometimes convenience and practicality override economy!

Not sure if it requires a different fitting however...
