I had to get this oven as I needed LPG and the size, also I got it because built in SA. I thought it would be the same as my previous one as it looked similar on line. They have redesigned the top part and it is a pain in the butt. They have put the small simmer burner at the right front and two medium burners at the back, the problem is that the new extended part at the very back of the oven, where the heat comes out, now comes out in a funny shape so when you put large/medium pans on the back burners they don't sit in the middle of the burne...Read more
r as the part that stick out means they cant sit dead in the middle, it stops them. The smaller burner at the back is better at the back out of the way for simmer items. I cant use the extra large burner for medium pots as it burns up the side. All in all very disappointed with the design and nothing I can do. I have to say the oven part is good and the overall look of the oven is good, just whoever designed the top part with the burners got it all wrong. I just wish they would ask us housewives. Oh well have to put up with it now for how ever long it lasts.

Disaster - hasnt operated properly since day one
Since the day of purchase nothing seems to of gone right with this oven. Exterior has always been too hot, you need on occations to use a towel or oven mits to turn the knobs off after use. The ignitor decides when it wants to ignite the gas flame. Now the oven knob won't turn off so we have had to turn the gas off at the mains.

Exterior extremely hot
The exterior is way too hot for the normal, reasonable person. Its ridiculous. We want a replacement. The burners are too hard to light. The knobs are very very hot to the extent we use a handtowel to turn off. Its so hot it heats up our little kitchen. Please explain, how can we get a refund or different cooker. Extremely dissatisfied.

Happy
This oven is great. I have needed a new oven & this Westinghouse oven has far superseded my expectations. I love the double burner for big pots or pans, I have found this burner to be excellent for frying as it keeps the base of the pan the same temperature all round. It has also got a great oven. My roasts & cakes now work.
Thanks for such a great oven at a price I can afford.

Worst stove/appliance I have very purchased and hopless trying to deal with supplier
The worst appliance I have ever bought. Seems there has been an issue with over heating of appliance and nothing has been done to correct the issue for several years. Mine was tested and deemed to be too hot to use and 'not fit for purpose' - replace with another stove with same results. DO NOT buy a Wesinghouse stove of any description; they all have the same issue and are DANGEROUS

Dangerously Hot Exterior
Used this brand new gas oven for the first time last week after waiting for electrician to install power point for the fan. The outer casing and knobs get dangerously hot - wife burnt her fingers. Electrolux technician measured knob temp at 84-125C, side casing 85-90C and top splashback 100C. and stated that the design of the unit caused these excessive temperatures. The CHEF version of this unit has the same problem as evidenced by the reviews of the CFG517WA. Hoping that Electrolux will agree to refund on this brand new oven.

Disappointment with the enamel finish
Poor enamel finish. Has multiple chips within a few months of purchase. It replaced an older model which had no marks on the enamel. I want to replace it but would not have another enamel finish. I would like to replace it with a new model, probably stainless steel instead.

Westinghouse gas stove with 517 as the only identifier. I have one of these stoves in a public housing unit, was new when I moved in - the stove constantly smells of gas when the oven is turned on, the fumes from the oven are blinding - have had a gas tech in twice and reckons that is how they are, live with it. This stove has made me ill on several occasions, is the anything to be done other than rip it out and put it on the scrap heap.

Hi Hch,
Jenny from Electrolux here.

Thanks,

I'm not sure how long since you moved and if the problem is the stove is really old and has a gas leak due to it's extreme age however, no gas stove is safe if there is a gas leak and you can smell leaking non-burnt gas. If the stove is dangerous it needs replacing. Have you contacted 'Jenny from Electrolux' and got a reply? Mine was brand new and Electrolux replaced it however, the second one they supplied did the same thing and I had them remove it too and got my money back. I just kept refusing to accept a non-usable gas stove. It's not something that can be 'put up with'. Good luck.
I have been in this unit not quite 2 years and the stove was brand new. The gas tech has been here twice and says that that is just the way it is and to turn on the exhaust fan when I use it. It also causes eye and throat irritation when I open in it from the fumes within the oven, surely this is not just how it is....
