Light switch doesn't hold down, to turn on the light, anymore.

published

We had this installed about 4 years ago. We had to replace the light bulbs about 2-3 times since. About 6 months ago, the light switch broke. The switch would stayed down (on) anymore when you press it. What is wrong with most white good manufacturers now days? They expect us to throw away appliances every few years. This is at best, a case of environment vandalism and should be outlawed by governments if manufacturers don't get their acts together. I expected a lot more quality control and social responsibility from Westinghouse!

Westinghouse is very poor quality and will not last

published

At almost 6 years of age our range hood made a very loud cracking sound threw a spark and blew the light. We replaced the globe to no avail. Unfortunately our rather expensive Westinghouse gas oven blew the ignition box a few months before. We rang a gas plumber who said that Westinghouse is rubbish. I'm saddened that Westinghouse has really gone down in quality.

Terrible product...seems to have a common fault

published

We have had our westinghouse wrj900us rangehood for 2 years and 2 weeks. 3 nights ago it made a loud cracking sound and shot out a spark. It also blew power to our whole house. We bought new bulbs as they both blew but now lights wont work at all. Had a burnt out socket as well. After looking at reviews it seems i am not the only one to be duped into a faulty product. After contacting westinghouse we have been advised that they will cover the repair but we have to pay the technicians travel of $135 travel expense to travel less the 50kms to fix the faulty rangehood. Just checking prices and reviews now to see if it is worth fixing it going for a different brand. Do not but this unit and be caught out like myself and many others.

Put me off this brand.

I'm an electrician and was called out to a clients house to look at their range hood. It made a big cracking noise and flashed and the lights stopped working. I found the circuit board to have blown. The fan however still works. This seems to be a common problem and when I tried to purchase the circuit board, was told I had to purchase the entire assembly worth $150. A new range hood I can purchase for $250. Unhappy customer. Unhappy sparky. No lights. 0416106624

2nd Unit Blown Circuit

published

We have had 2 of these units and both have blown the circuit board. The latest one was purchased 12/8/13
Just over 2 years and obviously out of warranty. We don't use every time hotplate is on as is noisy so sometimes
just use for the light. But blew when turned on last time.
Last time we will buy Westinghouse, the quality not like it used to be.

My range hood is white. A pretty good fixed unit. Easy to clean. Had it installed with the flute going through the ceiling and out of the roof. Filters simple to clean and take off and on. It is a bit noisy but what range hood is not. The motor would have to be in the roof for it to be quiet.
Did I say easy to clean? The filters are but not the fan blades and housing. One must remove the screws but one screw is located at the back. You have to own a right-angled screw driver to remove that one.

The little symbols above the push buttons rub off easily.

I'm assuming you are talking about the Recirculating accessory – Optional carbon filter ARCFD for recirculating mode only.
A diagram shows rotating it first to pull out or push on and turn to secure. No printed instructions.

Is this available in stainless steel finish with a stronger fan motor? My new induction cook top creates more steam & smoke which this fixed range struggles to clear. Mine has a top flute and vents outside top of roof.

Hi Steve,
I don't know if they have a stainless steel model.
The Westinghouse has 3 fan speeds and I find that very adequate. I hardly use the top fan speed.

I use the the fan speed setting on 3 and it cannot clear the smoke or steam adequately with the one motor unit airflow rated at 200 cubic meteres per hour. I believe the WRJ911US has two motors and doubles this to 400 cubic m/h and is this available in a staineless steel finish?

Yes, I have the WRJ611US, the smaller width in stainless steel, but it is unbelievably noisy. I will replace it soon. Even on low speed it makes a racket.

Regarding electrical installation does the unit come with electric flex already wired up and with a 3 point plug attached to plug into 3 point socket and what is the length of the electrical flex?

This unit is ready to plug into a power point with a cord length of about 1.1 metres. All you have to decide is whether to have the exhaust vented outside or not.
