I’m having trouble screwing in the grease cup for the first time. It seems ultra tight and I don’t want to crash tread. Any advice?

Have no issues with it,just do it slowly.
We had to take the first bbq back due manufacturing error with grease trap/cup. It shouldn't be hard. When we finally got complete unit, grease cup screwed on easily. My advice is go to store and play with floor stock so you can see if your bbq is faulty- was only way we could work it out.

hello, we have just bought the single burner smallest ziggy.
we put the solid cast iron plate in, and put one of alsis split chooks in. normally I bake that at 180 for 45 mins in a small oven in a ceramic dish.
I used the same ceramic dish in bbq, on a low raised cake airer, so as not to burn.
I cooked with a closed lid.
could not get it lower than 180
however on the ziggy it took nearly an hour and was raw on the upper side and dry on the underside.
Q - would a bowl of water make the heating more even. and lower the temp?
Q - perhaps cooking with the solid cast iron plate was a problem closed lid?
although we do this with our other bbq with great results.
Q - I am concerned that I cannot get the bbq lower than 170 without turning off the heat.
thinking maybe I should hae purchased a baby q, less drama and fiddling.

Andrea B. I have been using my Ziggy (single burner) since October'19 and love it. I do not have a solid cast iron plate so do all my cooking on the grill it comes with. I have cooked cakes, roasts, Christmas turkey roll and they have all been cooked beautifully. I think the trick is to place what you are cooking on a rack, sit it in a roasting dish and add water to the roaster. keep adding water during the cooking time. I have not had a problem with the thermometer but it takes a little bit of monitoring to keep the temperature at the constant heat required. I think you will fill it will be easier to control by using the grill plate instead of the solid cast iron plate. Hope this helps. I could not be happier with my ziggy.

We've just bought a Ziggy portable BBQ & am having a problem in that the bottom of what we're cooking is cooking too fast (turning to charcoal) but the rest of the meal is almost rare. Any suggestions?

This happens when cooking butterfly chickens, etc. It's practically impossible because the heat adjustment on the Ziggy hardly works, it's either hot or hot. I used to turn the gas bottle down a bit which is very difficult and I don't think you're technically supposed to do that. A great product concept but lacks enough testing to make it a great product.
h dear. yes i just posted the same comment. dry on the bottom, raw on the top after 55mins. and couldn't regulate the temp.

Experiencing difficulty in cleaning, and keeping clean, the internal surfaces of the Ziegler and Brown portable grill. Grease accumulation on the walls of the fire box, control panel shield, and the grease cup shield is difficult to remove. Seeking recommendations

Comparing between a baby q 1200 with your Ziggy
Any reasons why i should purchase yours. Does look good
1 answer
The Ziggy has a higher heat output, this can be an advantage if you're cooking in windy weather.
Best to have a good look at both in person, for the Q1200 you will have to go with the premium model if you want a thermometer in the lid.
In the end it really just comes down to personal preference, we really like how with the Ziggy you can lock the lid and plate in place so that nothing is bouncing around (if travelling rough roads).
I don't think you can really go wrong either way.

Our trivets are so far from the flame. We cooked a stir fry last night it took 40 minutes. Pan doesnt get hot. Also takes forever to boil the kettle. We are disappointed as we bought this to replace our camping gad stove. Any suggestions for what we may be doing wrong

Has anyone who bought this model successfully boiled water, or cooked anything stovetop-style--eg stew--using the trivets? Could this replace the old Primus camping stove, or do I still need to bring along both?

You can buy an accessory from BBQ galore which transforms this to stove, from memory i think it was 39$ but you can use a single burner or twin, there are so many accessories for this grill
Don't waste your money on the trivets, it just takes forever to do its job. Just a shonky up sell as with the aluminium 1/2 plates. The bbq is bloody great with cast iron plate or grill other than that.
I've now taken this camping WITH the trivet set so I can answer my own question. Yes it is possible and easy to boil water on a billy, or small saucepan, and it doesn't take long at all if you put the top down (which also acts as a windshield), but your saucepan will need to have a metal (non-melting) handle or a removable handle. I also cooked basmarti rice using the absorption method (texture turned out fantastic) and even percolated coffee on this barbecue. There are two difficulties though: (1) the handle will be scalding hot to touch so you have to be extra careful (compared to using a stove) handling the hot billy, pot or pan, and (2) there is not much clearance at the top so when you slide the bbq cover down, it bumps the top of the pot lid (I ended up having to substitute a small flat metal plate for the lid.) In the end on our camping holiday we mainly used just a single burner stove (with a portable windshield) for general boiling water, and used this just as a bbq--cooking meat and veg both. (BTW every bbq meal turned out perfect.) If you have room in the car this BBQ might be the simplest way to cook meals camping IMO rather than mucking around with cast iron plates or whatever squatting over a campfire. And the same could be said of the Weber BabyQ I guess. If you do buy this one, it probably is worth getting and bringing the trivet set as a backup. I would bring along an additional separate gas or petrol single burner stove too though.

The weight is listed for the twin grill at 18 kgs. What is he weight for the portable and the triple grill?
Thanks

On the box of the portable one, it says net weight 11.5 kilos. I mucked around in BG seeing if I could pick up the ones on display. (I wasn't going to buy anything I couldn't easily carry myself.) I discovered the cast iron grill plate is the really heavy element in the barbecue, and if you're not strong you can just remove it and carry it separately. The aluminium metal box by itself is not heavy at all and I bought the barbecue and the carry bag. Still a bit unwieldy and cumbersome to move though, even in the carry bag.

can you roast a decent roast in a ziggy single burner?
4 answers
No, gets too hot and you are forced to continually open the lid and turn off the gas
Of course you can. We have roasted full size turkey, chicken and other roasts such as lamb and pork. Great every time. Seems to me that the people who have issues either got a lemon or they are the same type who have trouble lighting charcoal Webers and getting them to operate satisfactorily.
There is a screw behind the burner control knob. It sits at about 5 o clock. A torch to see it helps and you can adjust the temp down within a few seconds for roasting. The versatility of these units is fantastic.
