Picking the chainsaw that's best for you is very important, considering they're highly powered and dangerous gardening tools. Battery chainsaws are thought to be a happy medium between their electric and petrol powered counterparts, though they do have some shortcomings.

This type of chainsaw relies upon rechargeable battery packs, granting it a high degree of both portability and manoeuvrability. They're cordless and do not require as much engine maintenance as a petrol-powered saw, meaning they can be used for a huge range of sawing tasks.
Battery powered chainsaws are generally light and compact, work for hours, and shine when cutting small trees and doing general trimming. Depending on the product, these types of saws can match petrol saws for power, while also being far quieter and more suitable for use in urban areas.
They are typically the most expensive model of chainsaw. The main downfall of their design is the same as any battery-powered garden tool: the need to recharge the battery. But with modern technology and proper maintenance, this impact is negligible.
Battery chainsaws can be used for a range of cutting projects. If you intend to use yours for lighter pruning or as a hedge trimmer, a bar length of up to 40 cm (16") would be appropriate. Medium chainsaw work, like small tree felling, trimming and cross-cutting, should use a bar up to 50 cm (20") in length. For all other heavy sawing, like tree-felling, saw-log prep and milling, a bar longer than 50 cm is usually required.
Safety is an important consideration for all chainsaws. Make sure you're properly equipped with head, eye and ear protection, and have a pair of gloves to operate your saw. Though still very dangerous, battery-powered chainsaws have no cables and lower noise safety concerns. But, making sure your chainsaw is the right weight and size for you is critical to using it safely.
