Cover too small and does not fit
Bought our Kings roof top tent two weeks ago and have put it on our car. So far so good, except for when we try to put the cover on and it doesn’t fit and has already ripped in places. Off the roof it has come. Slightly disappointed as we are trying to get away this weekend and it’s not possible without a cover fitted
Purchased in February 2021.

Great value for the money!
Having never used a rooftop tent before I did a lot of research and was wary of the low price of the Adventure Kings rooftop tent. However, I took the plunge and bought one a couple of weeks ago.
The installation instructions were clear and simple and there was no issue with getting it onto the roof rack (however, the tent illustrated in the instructions was not the one I purchased). When I unfolded the tent one of the locking pins on the ladder broke without any force being applied to it - the quality of the ladder is shocking! (This was reso...Read more
lved by returning to 4WD Supacentre and purchasing an expanding, tubular ladder which is way more secure and strong for only $49 - a quick trip to Bunnings for a couple of brackets and rivets and I had a perfectly good ladder. There are no instructions whatsoever on how to erect the tent, clip the window stays in, install the cover, etc but I managed to figure that out. After those teething problems I am perfectly happy with the quality and comfort of the tent and I’m convinced it’s the best value for money out there.Purchased in January 2021 at 4WD Supacentre for $615.00.

Tight Cover, otherwise good so far.
Tent appears good quality. Floor is starting to compress, not sure of this floor material in the longer term. The early let down is a cover which is way to tight with a poor quality zip making the pack up hard work even without bedding. Cover is already damaged as a result. Mattress is a bit thin but not a big issue. On the positive, quick to set up, very weather proof and cool when hot. We’ve spent three weeks in it so far continuously.
Purchased in December 2021 at 4WD Supacentre for $550.00.

Dangerous Tent Exploded Open On Freeay At 110km During A Storm
Dangerous, tent exploded open while driving 110km down freeway in high winds in the middle of the night in a storm. Yes it was strapped on and the zip ripped right off. Yes it was as crazy as it sounds and the ladder smashed through my rear window shattering the glass scaring the absolute bejeezus out of us as we were driving along. Had to struggle to fold tent back closed in heavy winds which was wild as it kept blowing back open again in the storm with me on the roof and my friend at the back, nearly knocked her out: meanwhile trucks blasting past us. All this one month after the warranty expired. Not to mention the previous bending of the steel structure. I took it straight to the tip after this as it was completely destroyed.

Not the quality i expected.
i have used this tent 4 maybe 5 times for a total of around 14 days. the rest of the time it has been zipped up with the black cover on it. Unfortunately the last time we went camping we arrived and flipped over the tent and zipped on the annex, but as soon as i grabbed the black straps i noticed they were really perished some even dissolved in my hands. the straps on the annex all fell apart so we couldnt use it which was really painful as it is where we keep our dogs at night so they don't wander off and cause any problems. We also use it as ...Read more
a change room and put a portable toilet in there. Now we are just waiting for the remaining straps to fall off and make it even more of a pain. Without the annex we cant use it as we originally intended so its useless to us now. Lodged complaint today and will see what happens here. The tent annex look brand new but these straps are not UV stable and should not have been used in the first place as 2 weeks exposure to the sun should not have them crumbling and falling apart.Purchased in March 2021 at 4WD Supacentre for $753.64.

Kings roof top tent
I bought a roof top tent 2 weeks ago never used it since after the first night it rained and everything got drenched mattress and bedding not happy a t all. Also the waterproof bag was and is way to tight all for corners of the bag have ripped due to the tighness and the sharp edges of the alloy edges of the tent itself. All bad things aside the only good thing I found was a quick set up.

Blew open on the freeway during strong winds
Enjoyed the tent very much in our first month after much difficulties figuring out how to actually use it. The waterproof cover that comes with it is so difficult to put on we usually spend most mornings struggling to get it on without ripping it up. Yes, the new models have covers made to fit so snugly it’s almost impossible to get it on. Normally when it is properly set up it holds up pretty well in rain and wind. However, today while we were driving on the road in high winds, the velcro straps came apart, the cover flew off and our entire te...Read more
nt blew open while we were on the freeway going at 100km/hr. We had to pack the tent back up on the road shoulder in the rain and wind with trucks and cars zooming by which is not a good experience I assure you. The velcro straps are completely useless in holding the tent close and is very dangerous when it flies open when driving. If you do purchase this tent, make sure to use a rachet strap to secure it shut for your safety and the safety of others!Purchased in June 2021 at 4WD Supacentre Physical store.

Somewhat disappointed
We were do excited to get our new Kjngs Roof top tent and have used for 3 months straight with a trip.
Overall reasonable structure but does not cope with too much rain. Our first night of rain, the front corners of our mattress were saturated.
We chose to try to waterproof it ourselves with a spray. It has helped but still not ideal.
We understand you pay for what you get ! The last South African built roof topper cost us $1200 and it was the ‘duck nuts’ !
So in conclusion, great little roof topper for the money but don’t expect miracles !

NOT suitable for wet weather
I bought a Kings Roof Tope tent recently. We (myself and girlfriend) were so excited for our first roof top camping adventure. It was easy set up, nice and roomy, well ventilated and with internal pockets.
Unfortunately we encountered some inclement weather on our 7 day trip. It rained most nights when the tent was set up.
I thought the tent would be waterproof... Incorrect! Every time it rained our mattress would become wet through, due to what I consider, poor waterproofing around the seams which connect the tent to it's base. The base would...Read more

We were very happy until it rained
Set up was easy, we had plenty of room. The teenagers were in the rooftop we were in the 6 man annex and our baby was in the cot under the rooftop. We were so happy with our purchase until we had a very light shower and I mean light we noticed water puddles on the floor. It happened in the middle of the night and I thought I must of not shut one window quick enough. I was half asleep so didn’t think to much of it. The following morning we got up noticed a storm was coming. We zipped up everything laid in bed and the annex leaked in a few place...Read more
s but mainly through the floor zippers which are raised off the ground at least an inch or 2. The water seems to run down the annex and come through the zip instead of running off. It was only a short decent shower but nothing crazy and no wind. Our bed got drenched and we had a pool at our feet. Not impressed at all.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Not suitable in dusty conditions
We used our roof top tent in the out back recently, in very dusty conditions. We found the zippers that connect cover are too fine and collect dust, which makes them very difficult to use. Also found a lot of condensation under the mattress. We are definitely looking for better options

Bit worried to use it in bad/wet weather
Recently (3-4 weeks ago) purchased an adventure kings rooftop tent with annex. Have not actually camped in it yet but have set it up in the backyard to get a good feel for it. The rooftop tent itself sets up and folds down really well as stated and seen on YouTube clips. The annex on the other hand is a completely different story. It's flimsy and flappy in the wind and it leaks. The door and windows only zip on the sides and not all the way around like the tent or the fly screens allowing rain to enter the annex, even during light rain I have f...Read more
ound decent puddles on the annex floor. There is only 4 peg down points on the annex which is different to the Adventure Kings YouTube clips I have seen which have atleast 3 peg down points each side of the annex. The rear wall which allows access to your vehicle via a fully zipped door has no way to secure the top of the annex to the vehicle or top of the tent leaving a large opening gap for all types of weather to enter. On the Adventure Kings YouTube clips it suggests the annex could be used as a second room which was originally my intention but after seeing how much it leaks in light rain I would be hesitant to leave my shoes in there. The annex is very disappointing.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Terrible structural problems
Only bought the rooftop tent 7 weeks ago. Fitted to a specially constructed steel frame on a campertrailer. Used only twice. This tent has travelled from Townsville to Hervey Bay and back, NEVER been off-road. We took it up to Mission Beach, only to find when we opened her up, that the bolt which connects the main HINGE system between front/back or lower and upper ( whichever way you want to interpret ) had completely undone and was found under the matress. WORSE the other side HINGE plate bolts AND nyloc nuts had completely undone and were mis...Read more
sing, Premusably fallen out onto the Bruce Highway somewhere, ALL the other BOLTS were in various stages of LOOSENESS. I am so angry about this. BUYER beware!...I thought well, they all come out of the same factory in CHINA. APART from the shoddy workmanship/engineering...it's also very dangerous. Imagine all these connections failing while travelling at a 100kms/per hour! ADVENTURE KINGS...a bad adventure.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Kings Weekender roof top tent is extremely well made, the seams are totally water proof, the canvas is strong, and the eze of erection is so simple, 30 seconds. The roof top tent stood up to winds gusts of 70klms, heavy torrential driving rain, not one drop entered weekender roof top tent,
The zips are strong and easy to operate, the window awnings are well placed letting breeze in, rain out, the construction is tough..The price online is the cheapest I've seen

What weight can the ladder hold, how think is the mattress and can you replace the mattress if needed?
3 answers
100kg and yes you can change the mattress
Paul R.Adventure Kings
Hi Kellie,
Ladder holds around 1 persons weight at a time. The ladder can safely hold up to 150kgs with someone climbing in. Yes you can buy a new mattress from us if you want to change the current one. If youd like to get more details on that, feel free to email me on [email protected]
Cheers,
Saleha =)
Hi Kellie, I weigh 86kg and did not feel confident on the ladder (in fact it broke before I’d even set foot on it). However, I bought a telescopic ladder from 4WD Supacentre - I think it cost about $50 or so - and that ladder is fantastic. The installation was simple - 2 small “L” brackets from Bunnings for about $6 and a couple of rivets, and it has resolved the issue. The tent is fantastic value for the money and the mattress is pretty comfortable, although if you really needed to you could upgrade (or place a thin condensed foam mattress - think old style camping mat - under the existing mattress). Happy camping!

Thinking of getting the Adventure Kings fold out roof top tent, and I have been doing some research and nowhere does it say what the weight capacity of the ladder is. My concern is that if I climb the ladder, that it may snap and I'd injure myself. My weight is 160kg and I'm 6ft 2. My partners weight is 70 so together we weigh 230kg. will the tent even hold that? Please could you guys give me a straight forward answer as to what the actual limit is of the tent? Also, what's the go with the bad waterproofing? Has that been fixed or is it still ongoing?
Thank you
Rob

Did you ever try this out? That's my same question as between my partner and I we are 240kgs.
I ended up buying the product and has worked well so far for us.However, with the ladder being aluminum and I have trust issues woth that, I use 2 rope straps on each end and tighten them together so the 2 halves don't give way. I probably don't need to but for safety same, it works well. Definitely worth the buy though!
Paul R.Adventure Kings
Hi Robert,
The folded out part is held up by the ladder and partially by the roof rack.
The roof top tents don't have a set weight limit - it all depends on the load bearing capacity of your roof and roof racks. The ladder can safely hold up to 150kgs with someone climbing in - however when you are in the tent sleeping you are not on the folded out part, but at the other end of the tent which holds alot more weight as it is supported by the roof and rack.
If you need any more information, feel free to email me on [email protected]

Saleha
