Expressi Machine 2016 Edition

I was given the upgraded machine as a gift. In cold weather it won't heat up? So making it unusable since I got it for the morning coffee. As my kitchen and climate is very cold. I've had to revert to the trusty first model. Any ideas?

Mine does the exact same thing. The cup button will be flashing but no coffee comes out. Does it happen because the room is to cold and the machine is to cold or is the machine broken?

Press the appropriate button down till the amount of coffee is in the cup that you require. The machine will remember after that till you change the required amount.

I have the old machine but it seems to have so much pressure that the handle which holds the pods in place ejects, I now have to hold the handle down. Could this be a fault of the pods?

Hi Dave,
That has happened with our machine on few occasions as well but I can't recall what we did (if anything) to fix it.... but it was an intermittent problem. We were thinking that the 'lever ejection' may have been caused by the pod not being pierced properly and therefore the pressure coming through was hitting an impervious 'wall' ie the 'blank' top of the pod, and this was forcing the lever to 'eject'.
In relation to the current problems, we called the support line and were told to run a de-scaler through the machine & if that didn't fix the problem they'd raise a warranty claim.

What is the rinse button for? I've just got the machine and to get coffee I have to press the rinse button and then the cup button to get the coffee going....I'm confused.

The rinse button is exactly that ! Cleans the water pipes before making a coffee . You should also press rinse after you expel the coffee pod

Thanks! It was the idea of rinsing beforehand that really threw me.

Yes, the pre-rinse before inserting the capsule ensures that any gunk in the tubes is expelled and doesn't contaminate your coffee. It also ensures everything is up to the right temperature before you start expressing.

Machine provides VERY small amount of coffee even on large cup setting. It appears to happen because pod is not puncturing on top sealed area. Single seal punctures but not multi-needle end of pod. Is this likely to be a 'bad' batch of pods? Machine has worked perfectly until this last two pod packs.

Hello and yes this is a bad batch of pods. Just save them until you have 16 and return them for a refund. Mine were all different colours because not all of them were duds. This problem with the small amount of coffee was exactly what happens to me. I haven't had a dud for a while now. You can see with the faulty ones, it's almost like they are too full of air. Just keep goin with it. Hope that helps. Oh! And don't throw any pods away like I did.

melnol

Thanks Suzie. We're going to get a new machine so it should show instantly if the machine or the pod is the problem. Thanks for your response.

My understanding four prong versus one! This little machine has powerful 19 bars, so no need for four holes. Believe me the coffee is good! Only maybe need the practice to operate it properly and if I could operate it with my 70 then ..... You have 3 strength of coffee possibility, short, medium and long. There is a telephone number for help with the instruction leaflet, it would pay calling them. Routine will help with a bit of patience, as is well manufactured.
Hope it will help.

I do 2 ristretto's ie do 2 capsules one after the other in same cup and only allow the "short black" button to run for half the pour on each by pressing that button again to stop the flow before it finishes.

We've had our unit for maybe four months and all has been working smoothly. All of a sudden, when we turn on the machine, its start-up lights flash indefinitely and will not allow any of the coffee buttons to work. Has anyone else had this problem?

Nothing like that here. Have you cleaned and descaled it at all since getting it? I can only think that maybe the pipes are clogged or something like that.

Bought a machine while on holidays. But there is no Aldi store here in Nth Queensland so I am wondering if it will damage the unit to use Gloria Jeans pods? I know the warranty will be gone, but online prices for Aldi pods are too high.

Interesting question - Aldi Pods are $5.99 or .37c ea. Unless they are on special most other pods are more expensive. Further you have to add freight when buying online.
All I can suggest is to try a Pod that fits the Aldi Expressi Machine, however, apart from voiding your warranty, I have read online that some other pods will cause a leak in the steam head unit and water, coffee will leak into the base - not good. I have also read online where other pods leak granules into your coffee (grit) - also not good. See if you can get someone to pick up at least 10 or 20 packs at Aldi Bundaberg, Qld.

I have had the same unit since new and I really like the variety of coffee pods that Aldi has for my taste and my family and friends who enjoy a great coffee. Cheers.

I haven't used Gloria Jean pods but I did use Woolies ones and it bent something in the machine so it would pop open when the water was going through and splatter granules everywhere. I had to buy a new machine

Yes, we've had the same problem and many more. Our original aldi machine lasted 3yrs or more, it was great but it died earlier this year so we have replaced it with the current model - three times over! heaps of problems - sometimes the pod won't eject, sometimes it falls straight through, sometimes it gets started then the pressure seems to blow the pod out of place and the coffee fills the receptacle instead of your cup. I'm now getting coffee grounds in my cup sometimes too....but then in between its perfect
The company have been extremely unhelpful. I'm looking for a new brand of machine now to switch to.

How do I fill the water tank? There is no valve at the bottom of the tank and the water runs straight through. Is this a faulty machine? I have had earlier models of the expressi and have not had any problems.

There should be a small sealing valve in the bottom of the water tank, that only opens when the tank is placed on its mount point on the machine. If water runs straight through while you're filling it, it must be faulty. (N.B. Don't touch the valve when you're filling the tank from the tap)

Lift the lid and fill it with water! I pour it in with a small jug. Much easier than taking the water reservoir off repeatedly...

Can I use PODS from other manufacturers ?

Online answers suggest MAP, Woolworths Pods including Gloria Jeans Pods and Lavazzi Blue Pods can work in a Expressi Machine. However, I know it VOIDS THE WARRANTY. Some pods use powdered not ground coffee and this can wreck the machine. Don't risk it, Aldi have up to 10 strengths with different flavours, try them all and get the one you like and a variety for guests who like different strengths. I will never use different Pods as I like the Aldi range of pods.

Frances

i tried other pods and bent something in the workings so everytime I put a pod in it would pop open during the coffee brewing. I had to buy a new machine in the end. I wouldn't recommend it.
