I had a crash in my 2014 ducato van. The insurance company is now Investigating it because at some point a mechenic has drilled about 10 holes in the stainless intake pipe. Does anyone know what the reason for doing this is. Is it a cheap fix for a common problem in this model? Thanks Ben

I have 2015 Fiat Ducato lwb. After picking it up from a service/starter motor fix, screen showed 'use less gear changes'. Next morning, screen showed 'gear not available & was stuck in neutral. Gearstick could still move around, but screen always stays 'N'. Any help or advice?????

Sounds suspiciously like low auto transmission fluid. probably was not checkrd when they did the service. Reason for that is that it is an absolute mongrel to check

Is your van an AMT. if so check fluid level for the clutch. if that doesn't work you will have to go back to the dealership. unfortunately there are hundreds of fiat vans doing this. Its a dangerous issue when you loose gears and you need to report it, the more of us who do this will eventually get something done about theses vehicles

Hi, I have a Fiat Ducati 160 as a vehicle and body for my Trakka Motorhome. Just got back from a holiday toTasmania ( Australia). Tried to start the vehicle after being home for a week and the screen said " no gear available" every time I tried to put in it gear for the Automatic/ manual gearbox. Does anyone have any idea what the problem might be. I'm horrified as every time I take it to the local dealer, it costs me thousands.

hi bob check the fluid level in clutch reservoir first if its low top it up. Then have a look underneath at the bellhousing and see if there is any oil seeping from where the gearbox is bolted to the engine if it is your concentric slave is leaking. if not unfortunately there is a string of other issues and you will have to go to the dealer again. either way its a big job coming. all the best john

Bob.
Exactly what happened to me. Your gearbox fluid level is dangerously low. You will need to dismantle half your air intake because the fluid level bottle is behind that. I believe that the fluid level can be topped up from there. I did not even try with the size of my hands I would not be in with a chance to do that. From memory it cost about $300 to top it up. Unless you are mechanically minded forget about it. Time to take it to a Fiat service agent. PS. If yours is a diesel be prepared for fuel leaks from where the filler pipe connects to the tank after about 4 to 5 years. Now that one is really expensive to fix. Around the $1000 mark I was quoted because they have to remove half the interior to the van to get to the area. And after that they repair the faulty seal with .....yes you guessed it ......another faulty seal that will stuff up after another 4 to 5 years. Regards Ingolf

We have lost all fluid in our 2014 fiat 130 multijet clutch reservoir in 2016 .The fiat agent had no idea why we lost this fluid <DOT4>and was not not able to find where the problem was.
After 2 years topping up we find a good garage with good skills to replaced the Concentric slave cylinder and have replaced the small reservoir about 50 ml with a Remote mounted 150 ml that is now hanging on the air intake from the air con. and easy to top up .

I have a 2015 Ducato excellent condition with Avida rear water runs into top of engine rusting injectors. Fiat say that’s normal as my warranty is just about to finish. How do you fix it

1 answer
Peter A.
Peter A.

Water leaks in via the scuttle (plastic trim across between bonnet & windscreen). On X250 models it was a 2 piece scuttle which needs sealant on the centre join & between the scuttle & glass. Water also leaks around the wiper shafts which need tight fitting DIY rubber washers glued to the scuttle. The large drain hole is on the right side of the vehicle which is normally lowest in Europe. In Australia you need to make a larger pair of drain holes on the left & run a drain hose to down low. Sealant nozzles & garden hose work fine. Lots of fresh water washes help if you park near the ocean as salty water flows over the engine.

I have a 2013 Fiat Ducato Motorhome, that for no reason, would not engage the gears (Gear not available showing on dash) I had the vehicle transported to a Fiat service agent (the only one in my area, nearest 170km away) they have contacted me and advised me that they have to replace the Hydraulic control Unit plus the Sleeve T/O bearing, clutch kit and flywheel at a total cost of $23,642. The vehicle has only done 78,152 km. the gearbox is a auto/manual. It has been regularly serviced. Is this a common problem? I read a review on a 2013 Ducato with manual/auto transmission that said the gearbox should last for at least 100,000 MILES, (not KM). Do you think that I may be being ripped off?

Hi Robert .yes your story is not fare from ours.after the no gears availble on the dash board we find that a small 50 ml brake fluid reservoir that is deep inside the motor compartment was empty.
this brake fluid drives the clutch unit inside de gear box.the extra pressure to do this is made by a hydrolic pump .alle action is controlled by a master computer..if it works its fantastic but if you get problems it will cost a lot.
Here in NZ the cost was 2300 dollars for the master actuator a small unit that controlles the pressure of the clutch action an new clutch 1500 dollar and a new concentric slave cylinder 300 dollar and 2000 dollar labour. total 6100NZ dollars
our Motor home problem came by 21000 but the fiat dealer was not able to find the leak and sent us away to keep filling the small brake fluid up for 2 years and at 34000 km we wanted this problem to be checked.
you can find on the internet a total manual from your comformatic drive unit under the name M 40 .its is nice reading and gives you some good info .hope that this info can help cheers Rolf

Hi Robert .if you still have the motorhome check this small reservoir if you can .our was ok after a refill for 13000km but level need to be topup al te time..the leak was inside the bell housing and brake fluid came on the clutch plate .no leak was find outside the motor

Ducato Series 4 (2014-2020)

I see that most of the fiat ducatos with problems are older models, In NZ with rate the fiat ducato an excellent motor home base van and we have very few problems with them. I can see that the main issue is with the clutch slave cyclinder. I owe a 2017 fiat ducato and they are rated in NZ as an excellent van to owe. I deal with Farmers Auto in NZ which are the Fiat agents and they do a excellent job, I always deal with the Fiat agents and everything is done to the book using Fiat oils. Fiat may have improved the slave clutch cyclinder issue with the newer models, has any one had this problem on the later vans. Also rough driving may not help this problem

Hi Leanne. We are in New zealand and have a Fiat ducato 2014 auto a bit diffrent than manual.
We lost the DOT 4 fluid in the motor compartment that drives our clutch and is controlled by a robot.
With the loss of the fluid with the proper name TUTELA TOP 4 what is the same as the fluid that is use for your brake system the computer gives a warning no gears available, topping up this container made it all work fine again, after 2 years topping this fluid up and checking before we start a trip, me lost all 50 ml in 4 weeks when the Fiat was in our garage, We have find that the Concentric Slave Cylinder lost little bit of fluid everytime as this was activated, A big repair bill of 6500 NZ dollars include a new clutch as this was full of TUTELA TOP 4 and the garage was unable to clean, the actuator was replaced just in case it was faulty.
Check if your fluids for your clutch is up level ??
We have a court case with SMART RV AUCKLAND this week as we believe that this concentric slave cylinder breaking down at 21000 km must fall under the warranty. Success with your search.
