ALDI Ferrex 80V Lithium-Ion 20" Brushless Lawn Mower
Despite a few negative reviews, I thought I'd give this mover a chance. Collected it from the store, a 40Kg box. This is a battery powered mower with a steel chassis!
Unpacked and at first couldn't find the screws for the handles. But eventually found then in the battery box. I also charged the battery which was showing 3/4 charged.

Read moree leaf lawn. Both lawns had been fertilized 3 weeks ago with heavy rain then days of sunshine. So it had grown well. I set the height to only take the tips of the lawn leaving it with a good height for the coming summer. It had been mowed only 2 weeks before. I used the catcher. It "started" easily with about a one second delay after pulling up the handle. I tried the self propelled method at first but found the speed too slow for my liking. Nevertheless, it is easily pushed. When I had finished mowing both lawns, I had collected a very full catcher. And to my surprise the battery indicator showed I still had 3/4 charge! I'm very very impressed.Purchased in at ALDI for $399.

Good value. Good mower
Having previously owned a petrol self propelled mower which I almost had to run behind to keep up with I was a bit concerned that this one would be similar and was pleasantly surprised to find that the travel speed was perfect for me.
Been using it for a couple of months and so far it's performed very well. It handles wet grass of a decent length as well as runner grass without hesitation self adjusting motor cutting speed to suit.
Mulches well, haven't used the catcher so can't comment on that.

Read morehe top plastic battery cover - UV stabilised? but it's good as the current battery charge lights can be seen through it. The battery doesn't last as long as I'd like so I've got into the habit of recharging it after mowing 4 small lawn areas and coming back later to finish the rest. I priced a new battery but when told it was almost $200 decided against it. Hopefully the battery that comes with the mower lasts longer than the warranty it comes with (12 months?).

Well made and great value
I got one of seven mowers available that sold in one minute!
Easy to unbox and assemble and I was surprised at how well the mower is built - with a pressed steel deck it is a lot heavier and more sturdy than other battery powered mowers within $200 of Aldi's price.
Like most mowers now, the catcher is heavy plastic top and bottom with mesh sides and is quite large.
The motor runs at 2,500 rpm and the 510 mm blade (20 inch) cuts and mulches well and the self-propelled drive is very simple and it "free wheels" when pushed normally that will mean...
