Aldi power force furniture polish has taken areas of coating off my oak furniture not just my dining table but also marks on my light oak tv stand/cabinet it is noticable in patches where application from off the duster after sprayed then in contact with the wood. Has anyone else had a problem with this polish?.

Furniture polish adds a coat of wax and has very little cleaning ability. The fact your varnish or similar coating is coming off indicates to me the furniture is quite old and the coating would probably come off even if you used a damp cloth and wiped the furniture.

JoRam
JoRam

You are mistaken about the age of the finish on my oak furniture. No doubt the oak is old, the polish took the finish off two separate pieces of furniture which are different ages so it was the polish for sure. I mistakenly put this question on an Austrailian site as I am from the UK so if this is the same polish sold in AU as in the UK in Aldi stores be aware of the damage it can cause.

You may have had some other chemical on the cloth used ?.
The Australian Powerforce polish is made in Australia although we did have the UK made version some time ago.

Has anyone purchased the filing cabinet? Do all drawers lock?

Only buy well known brand filing cabinets as they will probably outlast you. Brands like Namco, Statewide, Steelco and Brownbuilt. I still have my Namco 4 drawer after 37 years and a dozen moves.

Bought a 2 drawer filing cabinet from Aldi and it's now crumbling apart (literally) within 4 years of purchasing. Apparently we have too many docs in it that the back and sides of the drawers kept getting out of place (the back end actually fell out of place resulting in some of the docs falling into the bottom drawer). Another con: it tips over very easily. Now looking for a new one :(

I really enjoy the small cans of portview tuna but I read that some cans leach metal nano particles. Can you please tell me whether these cans are lined? Thanks

A lot of Aldi products don’t comply with Australian food standards law. I’d honestly avoid using this product. Aldi show no accountability for these substandard products either. Last year a tuna product sold by Aldi was found to contain ridiculously dangerous amounts of mercury!! Aldi covered it up and took no responsibility by blaming the manufacturer. The countries of origin don’t have legal food standard laws so you can never really know if what you’re consuming is safe. Personally I’d wait for Coles or WW to have a great special on tuna and stock up there. At least you’ll know you’re safe and protected by them.

Julie. You should do your own research if this is a concern. The word "nano" should be the give away. Scenario - a nano SIM card can fit 100,000,000,000,000 nano particles on one side. Everyone has their own view, just as Ashlee P does. From my own experience, all shops/importers deny liability for product problems and all say its the manufacturer at fault, which they are. No business is large enough to open, scientifically test and monitor a can from every box imported. And, Aldi does comply with Food Standards Australia. In case you didn't know, there is only a handful of seafood cannery's left around the world now and the biggest is in Thailand. Even John West has most seafood canned in Thailand and some in Alaska/USA. Australia has one seafood cannery and its the smallest in the world - go figure !.

I purchased a sohl toilet storage caddy a week ago only to find it stunk through the whole house! The product is releasing toxic fumes. Making us physically unwell. Can't live with it in the house. Only after 1 day, we moved it to the back yard, under percola to air out. 1 week later still smells. If I hadn't ensembled the item I would of asked for a refund. What can I do about this stinky caddy? Please help

Call the manufacturer/distributer (enclosed booklet etc) of the Product here in Australia - just like you would do with any product purchased at any store elsewhere.
Aldi is only the retailer.

I’ve bought the retro phone but it doesn’t have a power lead & the battery compartment in the back has no metal contacts in it so no battery will work.
I have plugged it into the phone line but I still have no dial tone. I’ve had the same issue with two separate Aldi Retro phones now.
Before I contact Telstra Can any one confirm: Does it need a power source to work?
Cheers, Rada

I’m not familiar with the retro phone from Aldi.
I would take it back to the store and have the manager explain its operation. If something is missing it can be dealt with then.

Sorry, but I have no such phone - only my landline. I would suggest you contact customer service department at Adi as the first step, as they are always very helppful and I am sure will be able to advise or point you in the die right direction.

Are you on the NBN network ? If so, the phone is unlikely to be compatible.

I can't seem to get the drawers/runners right in the Hudson 2 drawer bedside table. I've tried different ways of installing the runners but obviously doing something wrong. Any suggestions?

3 answers

More often than not, people attach the face of the draw to the draw compartment the wrong way around which means the runners won’t align

Nigel
Nigel

I bought the 4 drawer cabinet and the drawers don't fit properly but I can't see why. You can only attach the face on the drawer on way and I'm sure the runners are correct but the drawers don't sit flush with the cabinet front. To me it looks like the face of the drawers should be the other way up but they've been drilled wrong. Does that seem llike your problem?

Julie

Hi Nigel
Have solved the problem and it's all in the runners. Keep swapping them around and it will eventually work.

Why has Aldi conned everyone into believing in them. You get what you pay for. The cheaper the product the worse the product. This is a 100% fact and always will be. Anyone know why Aldi has conned us?

2 answers

And you are 100% wrong !.
Companies with Brand name products employ “Brand Managers” working in high rise and/or prestigious offices on salaries around $220,000 per annum plus usually at least three assistants on $80-100,000 per annum and don’t forget the backend costs and management.
They work with their appointed Advertising Agency planning TV Adverts, Press Adverts, Radio and various social media and sponsorships. Take a humble pack of biscuits from Arnott’s (Milk Coffee) - one particular biscuit style may have a $15,000,000 per annum advertising budget, then the Ad agency cost is at least $3,000,000 (20%) on top just for the looking after things. So for one pack of biscuits that costs around $0.40 to make and package, ends up costing $3.25 when it hits the shelf. The same pack of biscuits (Aldi’s own brand) from Aldi costs $0.99 as there’s no brand management.
It’s a no brainer that brand name products will eventually STOP or dwindle to a few just as it’s been happening in the UK and most of Europe for the past 6 to 7 years.
Did you ever think why meat prices almost tripled in 2013-2014 - the farmers decided to brand their meat ie: Riverina Angus, Tasmanian Pure Angus, Cowra Lamb etc - Australia has been eating Angus beef and Cowra Lamb with no branding for more than 100 years, but now they call it “Paddock to plate” with a brand name and your T-bone went from $11.99kg to $26.99kg, lamb cutlets went from $12.99kg to $39.99kg because of branding, hence, why Australian consumption of beef and lamb has dropped approx. 40% per person since 2014 and we now all eat $7kg chicken cuts unless you want to pay $16.99kg for the same chicken branded Lillydale or similar.
Branding was a nescessity once, but now the supermarkets are big enough to decide what goes on their shelves - every cubic millimetre of a shelf is costed against rent, wages and overheads and own branded (no names) means better quality control and better profits.

wellthatwasfun
wellthatwasfun

You've got it backwards. Other supermarkets have conned us into paying more for the same or worse quality than Aldi. Anyway lots of Aldi products are exactly the same as brand name products - same factory, same ingredients eg bread, biscuits, meat, cheese.

Don't buy cheap and nasty is my message. We have an 87,000L pool in Brisbane and have tried a few cheap one's and they don't do the job, burn out and no one will come out and service them. Call your local pool shop and get the right product and access to service when needed.

All of my casserole dishes, pots and pans are now Crofton and really good quality. I just wait until they come around a few times a year. Over the years have spent a small fortune on Scanpan and a Swiss brand which being at the top end were good, but have gone now. Whenever I have given up as getting desperate, I have bought an item somewhere else, only to find that within one or two weeks Aldi have their better version. This has applied to many different items.... so if at all possible, I just wait.

Anyone have any information regarding the home security system advertised in the aldi christmas gift guide, its a 500gb hard drive with 4 cameras but the catoloue has no other info, anyone know more

2 answers

Don’t know anything yet however, a question for you.
How much is your home worth to you ?.
Probably the same as most - everything.
As a guide, 0.5% of your homes value is what you should allow for and spend on security.
Don’t get me wrong, I like everything about Aldi.

Buy a proper "back to base" system and pay for monitoring and call outs if appropriate. Our system cost a couple of thousand twenty years ago with Chub then we transferred to another company, can't remember their name, but now we are with AG Security. What you get with a proper system is peace of mind, your home is wired to prevent intruders, it's also hard wired for fire and also voice activated alarm calls if required. The fire thing, does work as we had six big tough MFS guys come when we first burnt a piece of toast. You just need to keep the monitoring site's phone number handy and be quick to switch off, if an alarm goes out without due cause (you have to pay a fee to the MFS after one false call, and it's not cheap). We have it off pat now and it's a godsend, knowing you have a good chance no-one will attempt a break-in. The internal alarm is deafening, so any would-be thief would likely be scared shitless and run for his/her life.
