Quality Commuter
Had my 2014 SR MT 50 for most of 2015, gotta say it was flawless. I had a performance exhaust, 19mm Dell'Orto carby and heavy clutch springs fitted by The Scooter Shop from new. Went all day every day at speeds up to 70-75khr with minimal power lag up hills and very comfortable to ride. By far the most reliable, comfortable and powerful commuter scooter in the air cooled 50cc class (though if you want performance, you want the SR50R liquid cooled or maybe a SYM Jet, if you don't mind paying the almost $1000 extra). The 14" wheels (compared to t...Read more
he 13" on the Typhoon) make a huge difference on rougher roads. The brakes being the same as the SR MT 125 are excellent, I had to dive on them a few times thanks to ignorant drivers, very good stopping power. Not the cheapest 50cc out there but definitely best value for the money in my opinion.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Better than I was expecting... now I'm addicted!!!
I am not a motorbike fan. Seen too many accidents when I was younger, where the riders came off 2nd best, & I now work in a mortuary, so I still see things. But, with the cost of petrol & parking these days, I bit the bullet & went out & spent my tax return. I did heaps of research 1st, deciding to spend a bit extra for a better brand (rather than a cheap n nasty unknown Chinese brand). Went for the Aprilia 50cc, as it can be ridden on a car license (in WA, not sure about other states), & it had better wheels & colour over it's counterpart (Pia...Read more
ggio). Done just over 1000km in it now, and even in rain & cold weather, I love it! Saving heaps $100+ a week all up. Mind you, driving a 14L/100km Chrysler does tend to use a bit more fuel! Got mine 'tuned up', removing a couple of speed restrictions, so can get up to 70-80 in right conditions. Probably more if I lost a few kilos! It struggles a bit up hill, which can get on car driver's nerves, but who cares... I pay rego so the roads belong to me, too. Wind can be an issue too, but poor conditions can help wake you up & keep you alert. Ride is a bit harsher than a car, especially when you hit potholes, drains, manhole covers, etc, but all those issues you'd most likely get with any bike. Potholes are another reason I went for the Aprilia. Wheels are a lot bigger than a lot of other scooters, so they handle road conditions a lot better. For $2500 plus $280 to remove restrictions, you can't go wrong. Less fuel. Cheaper insurance. Cheaper rego. Free parking (for me, anyway). Still not a huge fan of bikes, but I'm coming around. fuel saving (less than $10 to fill tank, even at $1.50/L, & get up to 200km), free parking for bikes at my work (for now, at least), no need to get bike licence, fresh air! Slow acceleration, even with de-restriction, especially up hills. Speedo 5k's out. Noisy (but expected that)4 comments
Sad news. Had to fork out another $470 to change it back to a 50cc. Seems the 70cc too powerful for the rest of the motor. The shop thinks it may be due to wheel size or something, as mine's not the o... Read more
nly one. The kits work fine on scooters with smaller wheels, though. They had to replace the crank and bearings, so, basically, my 9500km scooter has brand new engine... kinda. It's now derestricted, with performance pack and racing crank. Goes a bit faster than when it was just a derestricted 50, but not as fast accelerating as when is was a 70. Still gets me over 80kmh on flats or downhill. My scooter has almost hit 15,000km. 6000k's after they pretty much rebuilt the engine. Still going strong. The only issue is smell of fuel vapour & a very slight [possibly] oil drip (a couple of drops... Read more
over an eight hour period at most). Due for its service soon, so will be addressed. A work colleague has the Piaggio version, and he had major problems with cracking fuel lines before his hit 10,000. Even with the minor issues it's having, I still highly recommend this!Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Just had the 70cc upgrade. Doesn't look any different, but she moves a lot better now. When I picked the bike up from the shop, I opened the throttle about 1/2 way & just about fell off the back. Neve... Read more
r needed to have such a tight grip in the past, but with the better acceleration, I need to think a bit more before I take off. Definitely worth paying extra for. Kits off eBay ~$300 or done at a shop for $550 fitted. I keep up with the traffic now, and only slow a bit on the really steep hills.
