Hi my 3 month old daughter live in Germany. We use aptamil pre. We are coming to Australia in January. She'll be 5 months old then. Would Aptamil gold be a good substitute for the 6 weeks we will be in Australia?

My daughter is 12 mths and I have gone to aptamil gold 3 but giving her the same as I did with gold 2...ie 4 x 150ml a day. I've seen on the guideline it recommends alot less so am I doing the wrong thing?

Nutricia Careline T.Aptamil

Hi Sels, for a baby over 12 months it is recommended that they have 300-400ml of milk a day + cheese and yogurt. This is for calcium intake mainly. Their main food focus should be a variety of solids (3 meals a day plus snacks). You won't be able to bring this volume down overnight, it's a work in progress. Give our Careline a call 1800 438 500 and we'll be happy to help you further. Thanks - Aptamil Careline

Thank you. I was more concerned that If I kept to her regular intake it would be detrimental to her belly or something.
So thought to carry on with 600ml this week and wean off in a couple of days

Is it normal for my baby to get extreme gas and the runs when going from stage 1 to 2? My son had no issues on stage 1, switched him to stage 2 and he was unsettled, had the runs badly to the point even the strongest cream couldn't help his poor little bottom. So we switched him back to stage 1! Why would this happen?

Hi Shanae,
I too switched from stage 1 to 2 for my son, but I cannot remember any serious issues except for farting ( gas) a bit and passing a quite a lot excretion (poo) every other day or the second without a struggle. He was quite settled on change. However, I remember I continued stage 1 for a little longer until his tummy gets matured. Look, compare the ingredients of stage 1 and 2 and see what made him to be so unsettled, so then you will get an idea of what impacted for his change. May be he needs a little time to get used to new formula. It is wise that you have switched back to stage 1 until his poor little tummy get adjusted. I would suggest you consult your family doctor or talk to maternity health nurse and seek their advice too since it is a recurrent issue before you step into your next decision. You can talk to your maternity heath nurse over the phone coz I have done numerous times. Hope this helps and wish you everything will go on well. xxxx

Hi, I ended up changing to NAN 2. I did however notice that his poos were a little bit harder on the NAN and I guess he wasn't used to that as his poos were always runny on the Karicare, so I just add an extra 10ml of water into each bottle and that seems to work. Every baby is different. You might have to keep changing formula's until you find the right one. Good luck.

Thanks, he is 12 months old, 9 months corrected as he was 3 months prem. He has been on stage one since he was 4 months old after he stopped tolerating breast milk. We haven't had any issues with stage one and stayed on it so long because he needed the extras while he wasn't eating much. But now he is eating more our health nurse said to try stage 2, she said to expect some constipation with the change but we got the opposite!. Doctor said staying on stage 1 won't hurt as we are starting weaning process so maybe it's just best to stay on stage 1 until he weans.

I'm just wondering how my 3-month-old son will go if he suffers from a slight case of reflux? I have been advised by my dr to give 1ml of mylanta before every feed. I have been breastfeeding but due to a very hungry little man, I'd like to wean him by slowly introducing him to formula. I'm just wondering if anyone has any ideas?

I'm not so sure about thick, my son had problems digesting it.

Mine is thick too..and it's making the feed really hard to get through the teat. I tried adding 20mls over the recommended dose and that seems to work so far

Dear Sehar, thanks for reading my post, I am not a doctor, I am not sure if you try first, then give your baby would be ok? The question is who or which country actually made it? Will you trust them?

I switched from Aptamil Gold to Aptamil ProFutura with no problem. If you look at the ingredients, they are the same. The only difference is that the ProFutura has some probiotics added to it.

The tin only comes with directions for 100ml bottles, my son was having 250ml ×4 daily PLUS the recommended amount of solids if not more.
Is it okay to make larger bottles using this formula?

1 answer
Aptamil
Nutricia Careline T.Aptamil

Kristin (Dietitian): The recommended amount of milk for a baby over the age of 12 months is 500-600mL daily, as this amount provides the nutrients required from milk, without displacing solid foods from the diet. If babies are eating well from a good variety of food and have high energy requirements, they may have more than this. The reason for the 100mL serving size is due to the fact that these older babies are using milk more as a snack food rather than as a meal. Larger bottles are fine for babies who need them, as long as solids are providing the major source of both nutrition and energy past 12 months. Milk should not replace meals.

Hi Leelee, I don't know about other Karicare products I just know that the Aptamild Gold Formula did not agree with our baby, perhaps its the Gold version of all of these formulas. I would recommend to speak to your Dr to check for allergies because sometimes it is not allergies.

My 6 week old daughter is on karicare aptamil plus HA . She is suffering so badly from wind pain .. It takes nearly up to an hour to settle her after her bottle . She's drinking 150ml but sometimes leaves 60mls cause she's in pain already . I have red so many different formulas and reviews on what to change to and am so confused . I'm not sure weather the HA plus is to strong for her little belly or if I need a thickened formula ? If anyone out there can help it would be much appreciated! I did want to stick with karicare but I've also heard NAN is good to for windy babies . She does a poo once a day or once every 2 days which is good for formula fed bub . Please help I want my little girl to be happy and content!

Hi Abbey I hope you can find the right formula for your little one. From my research the gold version of the formulas can possibly cause gastrointestinal problems (I'm sure you will do your own research to double check that). Throughout all this i have used "infants friend" wind drops. I used Novalac gold after I stopped aptamil gold but my newborn son was very constipated on Novalac gold. I tried Heinz nurture & son got bad bad wind pains. Now I'm on Bellamys & son is doing ok but can get a bit constipated. I think every child is different cause my niece took Nan h gold with probiotics 3 yrs ago after lots of problems & it worked for her but I refused to give the gold version to my son so I went organic. I now also use Dr Browns baby bottles to reduce colic & they work he is less bloated my only issue is constipation now. I recommend Dr Browns bottles as they seem to work & another friend with newborn recommended it ( they are expensive though), also wind drops like infants friend.

I was told that there were some poisonous elements in Karicare toddlers 2 in New Zealand last month. My son has been using Karicare Aptamil 3 for over half a year. And I bought these products in Australia. I wonder if it is safe for my son to drink this formula?

1 answer
KarolinaB

Yes but it only affected the 1 & 2 stage. My understanding from the company's website it was a batch manufactured last year in march. My daughter is currently still drinking Aptimil 3 and has no problems if you are concerned the karicare website provided the batch number that was affected. Hope this helps you.

We were on Nan HA gold and had terribly offensive wind & vile dark green poo so switched to Karicare infant formula (not gold) and there was an instant improvement, everything went back to normal and stayed that way for a month. Then it changed to Karicare plus, and the vile stench & poo is back. The addition of fish oil obviously didn't agree with my little one at all. Anyone else experienced this problem? I wish they wouldn't 'fix' something that isn't broken.

When my lil one went to 6 months i went to second tin and he had runs for a few days lasted about 3 and now he is fine i think it just was the change since the second tin had more vitamins and just any change can upset a lil ones belly for a bit, stick with it and see how you go if doesnt get better my need to check with doc.

We haven't done that, but we have put formula mix in the bottle and have a thermas of warm water to make the bottles as needed, that worked for us, especially for night time feeds,

Mummy2009

The tin does say "it's safer to use immediately after they are prepared" I used to make them and use them immediately when my babies were very little (to be safe) I now make only a days worth at a time (but please remember that is what I do not what is recommended by the company and this method works for Me and may not be suitable for your children and if unsure call the nutricua line 1800060057they are extremely helpful) I make all my bottles at bedtime everyday and discard any left over for the 24 hour period! Then I can be sure it's all used with on one day :) hope this helps :)

For twins? Once you're enrolled in the programme it is literally half price and they deliver - i think free of charge. We always buy 18 in one hit.
You just need a note from your GP supporting using formula to enrol,
