We purchased Q5 Quattro diesel sports in January. I have big concerns re safety, the car auto safety brakes activate all the time out of the blue, putting me in dangerous situations. 1.As I was driving along a windy road they reacted towards a cyclist on the other side of the road 2. when I was turning right off a main road. 3. Backing out of the drive way 4. Changing lanes.
It’s happened multiple times on all the above situations.
As a result I’ve had whiplash and I’ve become very anxious because I never know when this braking system will kick in causing a major accident. I’m only grateful that my grandchildren haven’t been in the car during one of these incidents.
This is a major problem!

i want to buy Audi Q5 8R MY15 TFSI Quattro, let my give your opinion for it to buy or not, it would be helpful to me,
Thanks

I'm not sure how the TFSI models are as I have the 3.0TDi. However, I have had a 2.0TFSI Quattro A3 that I enjoyed very much. My only gripe with Audi these days is the cost of servicing and their choice in 3rd party Extended Warranty providers. I purchased a extended warranty for mine and its not worked out so well. I also have had a few issues with my transmission. Some good things....it's comfortable, powerful enough, and has a good road presence. The lights are great at night, seats are quite supportive, and the paddles are pretty responsive. I would definitely get a Q5 over a BMW X3.
Thanks Alan

Hi, my Audi Q5 2l TDI just stopped whilst i was driving into a car park. i tried to restart the engine, although was only partially successful for about 1 second. When i attempted too restart the engine it only just turned over like my battery was flat, and that was it.
the only engine light to come on was the Glow plug pre engine heating light.
when roadside assistance came he did find that engine drive belt was significantly damaged.
i have had a new belt fitted and a new battery as well, although still have no success.
the mechanic is talking about a new starter motor, although i can't see how tis could cause the engine too shut down.
does anybody know if the engine shuts down automatically if the drive belt fails, and if so does it need to be reset so the engine can then start again.
should anyone have a suggestion i would love to hear it?
thanks, peter

Looking at purchasing a 2litre diesel Q5. I've read reports of S-Tronic problems 2008 - 2010. Has the problem been solved or are later cars still susectible?

Hi everyone, could anyone tell me how much you paid for your timing belt/chain to be replaced at 90,000km or 180,000km, and if you got it done at Audi service centre or an independent mechanic.
Thank you!

Only Vbelt was replaced at 90,000km for our 3.0TDI. at AUDI dealership. price of vbelt itself was $108.00 and the whole standard scheduled service (part & labour) costed us $1,155.00. hope this helps.

Help! I have a 2009 Audi Q5. 18 months ago after multiple complaints about oil consumption ( 1 litre per week) I researched the internet and noted a class action suit in the US due to that year and model having rings too big for the pistons. I pointed this out to Audi and eventually they agreed to replace the rings. Now the timing chain has gone and surely this should have been ok only 18 months after an entire engine rebuild. They want $4200 to fix it. Can this be right or is it more Audi pretence and secrecy?

Errr..... I'm not a person who can answer this. Anyone else?
Hi Fiona,
My Q5 is exactly the same model and yr as yours, and I've had exactly the same issues with the oil consumption and and then the timing chain in May this yr, same price as well... I've also had to replace the all of the brakes and discs, and then replace the front brakes again after only 16000kms. Alternator and battery has also been replaced.
I bought the Audi roadside assistance and when it broke down last time they would only take it to the nearest Audi dealer, not the one that fixed it last time. Very frustrating!!
I've now been in touch with Audi in Germany and did a response back that they would discus with Audi Australia and get back to me, other than a call to see if the repairs have happened, nothing.
Apparently someone on the Audi Owners Facebook group Australia is investigating a class action here in Australia
Hi Fiona, I'm having the exact same problem now where my Q5 is using 1ltr per week. It would be great if you could provide any contact you may have to try and get it sorted. (I bought the car 6weeks ago off a private seller and basically screwed me)
Thanks

How much it cost for new transmission for Audi Q5 2009?
2 answers
It's a good question, but not owning an Audi I can only relate the figures I heard in the original post. I suspect with a DSG you're not going to get much below $10-12000, but I'd check with your local Audi dealer.
A new mechatronics unit will set you back $8,000. That's the quote that I was given by Audi when my mech unit failed last Christmas. A new, complete transmission can be up to $20,000. I also have this figure from my Audi repairer. Must add, that I haven't verified the second figure, I asked the question hypothetically only.

Hi,
I've found your post very useful as I am now have the same problem as you. It's very heart breaking when I paid so much for the car and ended up having problem with the gearbox. My biggest worry is the costly repair.
Just wanting to you if you managed to get Audi to pay for the repair? If so, which audio dealership did you go to?
Your reply would be much appreciated as I am now feeling lost and hopeless.
Many thanks!

Can anybody tell owning a Audi q5 diesel 2 litre 2010-11 . How is it? I heard that there is time belt issue after 60k's ? Is any maintain issues unto 150000km? thanks

My car was a 3 litre diesel, I don't know if that would make any difference with a time belt issue. My problem was transmission at 50,000 K's.
To be fair Audi did eventually offer to repair the car but I had made a deal to buy another make of car I love the look of Audi's but they are trouble.
Good luck. H B.
I have a 2009 q5 diesel and yes it was mandatory to do the timing belt - quite expensive. Having said that it has gone well since. Great car to drive. German parts - what can I say ?
I have had a bit of an issue with surging when it changes 2nd down to 1st. Seemed to get better when I used Alpine diesel during winter . The dealers have no idea how to fix. Overall a nice car and worth a few higher service bills.

Hi
I would like to buy one Q5.
Just I am wondering what will be the average service costs??

Hi there,
my Audi is diesel engine, so the service is required once a year (I don't drive long distance so I service by date rather than the mileage)
For diesel service, I remember they told me it's capped 500+GST or something like that. I paid no more than $600 for basic service, they will let you know extra cost if other stuff needs to be done. So compare to other European car service, I think their price is very decent. (My hubby sent his Subaru to standard service, cost us nearly $400.....)
hope it helps :)
Thank u so much.. Good..
All I can say from my experience is do not buy an Audi as after purchase service is very poor and they do not back there product my Q5 did not even last 200,000 km

Own the 3.0 tdi. It's got the S line pack, 20" rims, napa leather. It's a beautiful machine. The acceleration is a tad hesitant when cold, but once away it is awesome. I did a country drive 600km with the family, 3 MTB bikes not roof. On b-roads overtaking it was effortless. Cruising at 140km/hr is too easy. Although it has flappy paddles on the steering wheel you hardly ever need to use them. It's a point and shoot experience. My previous car was a Liberty 3.0 R petrol. There's no comparison. The Audi out performs this car in every way.
