Great car but pricey to maintain
We bought our 2014 4.2 TDI V8 as a low Klm Demo from Audi Sydney, where both the pre and post sales service was excellent. 5 years and 142,000 Klms later (and with a little sadness) we said goodbye to the vehicle a few weeks ago (as a trade on a new Q5).
Firstly the Good:
The engine & gearbox are superb - in normal traffic just lopes along and is never stressed, hardly breaking a sweat. When you need it you really appreciate the 250 Kw and 800 Nm torque - great for overtaking and towed our 3 ton van much (and I mean much) better than the 200 ...Read more
series LandCruiser we had before it. We averaged 10.5 L/100 mixed and around 8L/100 from Sydney to Coffs on regular trips great for the size / performance. The car was tight from day 1 to day 1832, not a squeak or rattle or unusual noise anywhere. It handled like a car - ours had air suspension and in dynamic mode it hunkered down and really gripped the road - OK not like a sports car but better than my SSV Commodore - and stopped on a dime.
Purchased at Audi Dealers for $129,000.00.

Fantastic
This is a great family car, i have a mustang and my wife uses the Q7, or when we are together we use this. As a family car is has plenty of room, very economical and safe. It's very ease to drive, when we first got it, i likened it to driving a cloud.

Best car ever!!!
We owned Audi Q7 over 2 years now. Excellent condition. Other than regular servicing & changing tire we did not spent even 1 single cent on other kinds of repairs etc. Very comfortable for long drive. Love this car. Would love to recommend Audi Q7 if you are looking to buy new car.

Oil leak
I wish I had never looked for q7.oil leak is just inrepairable. Car is not worth for the money. Fix one leak and it starts leaking from another point car has only done about 90k and this is just absolutely piece of crap . Will never look for another Audi in future and also tell my all friends not to go for anything made from Audi. After sale service is shocking.

4.2l TDI Oil Leak
I have a 2010 Audi Q7 and have had it serviced at Audi however, lately I got recommended to a local service Place and these gentlemen brought to my attention Oil Leaks in the car from the right hand side. The local guys told me that the car has extended warranty though National Warranty Service so get the car back to Audi and have them repair the car.
I got a booking after 4 weeks and was told that the hose to the Turbo had a leak and needs to be replaced. That got done however, got a call next day telling me that the Rocker Cover gasket is...Read more
leaking and in order to change that, 4 injectors need to come out and be replaced and all the rubber seals would need to be changed. National Warranty Service came back and said that gaskets and rubber seals are not covered so I had to pay for that portion of the repair. What I can't understand that a car worth so much and only 7 years old with 76,000km having leaks in gaskets! Especially on a car that asks so much in price, it's pathetic. Verdict, I ended up out of pocket $1500.00AUD and Probably will not look at another Audi again.1 comment

Love this car
Just picked up a used 2010 Q7 for my wife and we are loving it - we can get 3 bigger car seats across the middle row and the rear seats are actually usable for a 7 seat SUV
The 3.0 TDI engine is powerful, but quite quiet on the road and the MMI system is easy to use, overall it's a great package and a stunning looking vehicle (in my opinion anyway!)
Would highly recommend to anyone with a growing family

High service and repair costs
Bought a 2011 demonstrator and have had several annoying issues with the car - brakes replaced 3x in 5 years (admittedly mainly driving around town, but have never had this problem before in 30 years of driving), expect to replace tyres at least annually (Audi charges close to $500 a pair - get them somewhere else), front passenger window doesn't power down in the summer - really a hassle at parking building entrances and exits, tailgate now sticky, sometimes doesn't go up - but service says they've checked these issues and they're fine (?).

Secure, Comfortable and 4.2 Litre V8 Power with Fuel Efficiency
Great car - the ride is comfortable, and for an SUV, you don't feel like you are driving a tank, very little body roll and very responsive vehicle. The one thing I don't like too much about this Audi is the Multimedia input for your iPhone, which needs to be done via a cable and the TMC does not work in Australia.

Best most reliable I have owned
Bought second hand for $38000. Have owned it over 3 years. Bought with faulty emissions control system, this has not affected the performance (amazing), or fuel efficiency, so I have just ignored it with no further issues. Adjustable air suspension is reliable, comfortable and handy when hooking up my full sized van. If you drive it very hard your tyres will wear out quickly. I get 45000 out of a set. I do drive hard as I frequently need to overtake B doubles, which it does with ease. The climate control fan stopped working, 185 000 klm...Read more
s so far. I have not changed the brake pads yet ( over 110 000 klms since purchased). 85% of my driving is highway. I drive with cruise control set at 100 km/hr towing my big van...you don't even know it is there and never gets below 95km/hr. On the flat it returns 15litres/100 klms towing the van at 100km/hr. I frequently pass the 200 series landcruiser when we both tow vans. I will not sell this vehicle as it will be kept for my son or daughter. I would love to buy the SQ7 as my long term vehicle. I am surprised at its reliability, better than new Holden cruise (diesel), 307 Peugeot diesel, Holden Caprice (WK bought s/hand), 2008 Toyota Prado (diesel).1 comment

hasnt lived up to the hype!
We really thought this car would deliver so much more. The pre-sale hype just hasn't been delivered. We have done 25,000ks and I must say that for the price we are sadly disappointed.
I think we will think long and hard before we look at purchasing another Audi. Especially a 4wd.

Make sure you buy a Wednesday Vehicle !!
We had a BMW x5 prior to Q7 which I regret changing to. I'll explain .2008 q7 Great car when running well. Economical on fuel and powerful engine, comfortable, beautiful designed and ride comfort & 7 seater is a must. Safety was my utmost requirement for my kids and wife. After researching safety crash testing, the q7 from memory, rates high.
The negatives very wide for Australian parking spaces, get use to door dings. It loves chewing up tires and breaks.
The car had a 3 year extended warranty who I intend to also write to for thier support ...Read more

I have driven many different cars in the last 20 years but the Q7 is the worst.
Even though the car was worth $100k, it felt more like a $10k car. The suspension is too stiff and could feel every bump on the road. The engine light keeps coming on randomly and have taken it to 5 different Audi dealers multiple times and nobody can fix the problem. The control panel/knobs are so nonuser friendly and way to confusing. The engine is gutless and sounds like a truck. I can go on and on but I have already wasted too much time talking about this rubbish car. Just don't buy one or if you have, sell it immediately.

Love my Q 7
I have had my Q7 tubo 3lt diesel for just on 5 years
I cannot fault it mechanics. I have been through some tough times business wise an I am hopless at getting it serviced at the best of times. From 15000km to 72000km it didnt get serviced at all and it didnt miss a beat. I dont recommend this but it was one way to keep the servicing cost down LOL. The mechanic said I have lucky and apart from brakes and discs done with the usual servicing and $3k later all was good. That was my first brake replacement as well. I have now done approx 120000k...Read more

Money pit and poor engineering
Don't do it!! I had a 2009 Q7 S line, and before 65000 km had faulty tailgate, fuel door wouldn't open, dropped lower injector seals, failed water pump and burnt engine oil. Another guy In town has had his Q7 engine out at 45000 with rear main seal issues.Excessively expensive service costs, our closest dealer was over 150 Kim's away. You spend $90K on a car and you expect a little better. My first Hyundai Excel ran without fault for over 200000kms at $18k, go figure. I dropped a heap of cash on the trade as I could not bring myself to sell this lemon privately. Now have a Toyota Landcruiser and love it. You may look cool in an Audi but it will send you broke and let you down. Hope this helps in your decision.

Worst customer service!!
“The most appalling service I have ever received!! Never in my life have I been spoken to or treated like I was today at southport Audi... I was called a liar, blamed for faulty paint work, accused of leaving my car outside in the weather as that was the reason for dull paint and rust spots on my car! One would think if you spend over $50k on a car plus $1200 for paint protection you should be able to take it out of your garage! According to the note they left in my car this is not the case at all!!!!! This is the fourth time my car has been re...Read more
turned to Audi due to paint problems and faulty paint protection! I received nothing but attitude and excuses. I was ganged up on by both staff members lying to me about phone calls and conversations we have exchanged but when confronted about them I was called a liar and said that they had never admitted fault nor spoke to me on the phone! To my discuss the male staff member that should not even have a job in such an establishment turned his back on me and walked away leaving me with nothing more than an excuse and a very sour taste in my mouth! ” I own a TT Quattro S Line and and A5 coupe well over 120k worth of cars and this is the service I get? Appalled!! Will never buy a car from them again!!!Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Initially great. Now a money pit.
I bought my first (and last) Audi in 2008, a Q7 4.2L Diesel. I needed the space and loved the guts and torque. But when the warranty period ran out everything started to go wrong. I have literally had the thing in and out of service departments since it was 2 years old and it has cost me a fortune, not to mention it eats through tyres, pads and discs (I get Cooper tyres now on nitrogen rather than O2). Don't get me wrong, the car itself is amazing to drive: gutsy and smooth, although not so much now it is an older man). It just keeps my wallet ...Read more
empty. I have had lower control arms replaced, the boot latch replaced 4 times and it still slams shut as opposed to closing gently, the MMI system won't work with an iPod or phone ($6000 to replace the whole console), the steering column won't go all the way up or down, the tubing around the sunroof gets blocked and leads to massive flooding in the driver's foot compartment whenever it rains (Audi told me not to drive it when it rains!), and it has lagged upon initial start for the day for 3 years, and now to top it off the drive rack needs replacing. I've just been told it will cost me $8000 to fix this, plus another $1600 to "fix" the sunroof tubing, another $300 each time to "fix" the boot and the list goes on forever, no joke. All the above issues have been seen by Audi and they either want to charge me a huge amount of money to fix or can't see the problem, for example: the recent drive rack issue took 2 days for Audi to look at and in the end they couldn't hear the clunking coming from the car, so I took it to another service guy who diagnosed the clunking as a drive rack issue but is unable to fix because it is not something he's able to do (very honest guy). What next Audi? I'm over the maintenance. Do not buy an Audi unless you are willing and able to replace every 2 years upon expiration of the warranty period. Audi service departments are there for one reason: to empty your wallet after warranty expiration. They don't necessarily know everything there is to know about your vehicle, though they will say they are the experts and don't take it elsewhere for servicing. I kept going back to Audi for servicing until I got jack of paying too much and not seeing results. Since going to a non-Audi service centre I have noticed a difference, but only Audi can fix certain things which is really frustrating. Seriously, do not buy an Audi unless you are willing to overpay at servicing, overpay for spare parts, overpay for pads and discs and have a lot go wrong with the car. It is disgusting that such a company can get away with all that goes wrong with their cars, and many friends say the same thing. Everyone I know who owns an Audi has the same issues. Magnificent Piece of Kit
Purchased a 2014 Q7 4.2 TDI, just put 5000ks on the car. No idea where the tyre issues come from, I cant see any wear so far and we've done a bit of towing (fitted with 295/35/21 P Zeros). The car is fabulous to drive, gobbles up klms like nothing Ive driven before (including the MB GL350 it replaced), full tank of 100 Litres got us from Sydney to Gold Coast with a quarter tank left! finally filled up at 1120ks and it took 83L not bad for a 2.5ton Vehicle. Ride is superb, quiet, pulls like a Mac truck and corners like no other large SUV. So far Everything on the car has been perfect and Audi Sydney have to be commended for service. Cannot recommend highly enough.

AUDI Q7 4.2 TDI
I bought a Q7 4.2 TDI in early 2008 and have gone through 5 sets of tyres, 3 sets of discs and brakes, and had numerous electronic issues. Servicing is very expensive not to mention the cost of discs and brakes from Audi service. Use Cooper Tires instead of others as they last ages. I learned this after my third set in less than 70000km. Ive done almost 115000km now and do love its engine and guts and will keep it as long as I can, but have found a better dealership to get it serviced at.
Engine!!! Comfort, sound-proofness, internal size better than Landcruiser.
$$ to service and maintain

What is the story with the poor customer service with Audi? Seriously looking at something else next time even though I love the car.
If you want to replace your brakes for your Q7, we purchased from Imparts in Perth, the cost for 4 sets of brakes including sensors was $595 Total, Audi Perth quoted nearly $3000 including fitting, way too much.
My second year service for Q7 Audi is costing $3800! includes brake pads and discs.
Very Expensive!!

OK
Nice car but wouldn't buy another. Too big and cumbersome in the city and poor off-road. Audi customer service is arrogant
I have owned four new Audis and know the brand well. I have a 3 litre deisel. It is intuitive, comfortable and reasonably fuel efficient. A pleasure to drive on wide open roads and in country towns
It is not suitable for off-road. Poor grip and control. Under-carriage has exposed wires which are vulnerable to being ripped off. I lost a power steering wire which cost $3,000 to repair. Ground clearance poor. Easy to ground out front and rear ends. Large size is not conducive to city driving and parking

think its worth keeping the vehicle. This is a big disappointment on Audi. I really think there should be some sort of a quality check on vehicles and brands that charge so much for its products and deliver below average products.
