Monocel Gold Marine Grade Stain & Varnish

Hi there,
I have applied 2coats of Marine Monocel gold Gloss Cedar to a Bay Window which was previously Varnished in the 1950s, so we completely sanded off the Varnish until we achieved a nice even layer of exposed bare Timber, But we found that the dried Finish was too Shiny for our liking, after 48 hours we lightly sanded the gloss with a 240grit sandpaper to roughen the coating removed any dust and applied 1 coat of the undiluted Marine Monocel Gold Satin, however, the completely dry and cured finish has micro foam and fine wrinkling throughout. What would be the likely Cause and what is the fast and easiest way to rectify our finish to a uniform Satin Finish which we were hoping to achieve?

I experienced the same problem. 2 coats were fine with 240 grit sanding in between and the 3rd coat ruined my project. The coat is all wrinkled and wavy. Can this be fixed without sanding it back to bare timber?

Monocel Gold Marine Grade Stain & Varnish

I have tried to buy Monocel Gold Marine Grade Stain & Varnish Golden Oak gloss finish at two Bunnings stores (Belconnen and Mittagong) but both times they didn't have that colour. I also didn't see it on the colour charts. Has it been discontinued? My postcode is 2588 - is there somewhere not too far away I can buy it? I have used it very successfully on a kitchen bench and I need more to do the inside of the kitchen doors. Of course I would like the same finish. It is an excellent product.

Hi Tom, it is still available to paint specialists, not just Bunnings. Go to your local paint specialist, like a Bristol Paints store, and they can easily order it in for you.
