Love being able to customise the programs
Had for almost two years, paddle replaced once (just have to really clean the bits where dough can get stuck, particularly when using wholegrain flour). Seals (where paddle attaches) went a couple of weeks ago, rang Breville, said not covered under warranty, but still sent out replacement parts as a courtesy free of charge! Love that I can use my own program to make my daughter's spelt bread. We make about 5-6 loaves a week for a family of six. Can not fault this product or my service from Breville.

Not fit for purpose
I bought this machine to make speciality breads as it was programmable. Some of my breads are quite sticky and the folding paddle never came up properly. So I had to keep on lifting it up with a chopstick. I asked Breville and they suggested using the jam paddle. Today I started making bread with the jam paddle, and suddenly realised that as it was plastic, and possibly jam doesnt go to baking temp, that this may not work. After calling the help line and holding on for 15 mins, I was told that the paddle needs to be removed before baking. This ...Read more
machine is not fit for purpose. If it had a fixed paddle that could be used for baking, I could manage. But as it is? I think I am on the hunt for my next bread machine. Customer service told me that the machine only works for the recipes in the book. So much for programmable.1 comment
On contacting Breville through their Facebook page, I have now been told the jam paddle can be left in while baking. I suppose I could try it...

Love our Breville Master Big Loaf
This machine is the best ever and hasn't missed a beat in years however, we used it last night to bake our Friday loaf and it was fine up to the point it began the baking part and it tripped the safety switch.
Need advise from Breville, do we try to get this beast repaired as we love it or bin our family member and get a new one to replace her?

collapsible blade
The collapsible blade on my machine was good for about 4 loaves ; after that there was baked bread gumming up the pivot of the blade, no amount of cleaning or lubricating the blade would free it up . This left a hole in the bottom of the bread . Great concept but bad engineering .

frustrating
the collapsible blade doesn't collapse...at all...i have used this machine three times since purchasing about a fortnight ago and not once has it collapsed...resulting in the bottom of the breads being torn and a gluten free loaf unuseable as it was smashed in order to remove from the pan...its even difficult to remove the blade to clean it....why doesn't mine work???

Good but the collapsible blade...and breville don't sell replacement parts for it!
It's a great machine, if pricey.
However, they should really re-think that collapsible blade idea. It just does not work after a year or so. There's no way of cleaning it.
A bit later, and the coating is coming off of the blade, too - which I don't want to get into the bread.
The only place selling this part asks for $50 for a blade. So if I don't pay $50 for a spare, I've no way of baking breads now.
I'd be happy with a regular, non-collapsible blade, too - but I'm not sure if the plastic non-collapsible one is usable for baking breads at all.
This is a rather messed-up design part, Breville. Please re-think it. ...Read more

Loving the bread, love this machine.
We've had this machine for about a month now and I love it. It's so easy to use. I did have a slight hassle with the fruit dispenser, but it turned out that very fresh sultanas stick together - resolved by leaving them in the fridge for a couple of hours before putting them into the dispenser for the next yummy fruit loaf. The "crusty loaf" setting has already become a family favorite, and with the loaf size almost square it is easy to slice as well as being easy to eat. The small hole made by the kneader dropping down is such an improvement on my old bread maker. Well done Breville!

Rubbish designed to fail
Three years of very light use. Then totally died. Probably cost $2.50 per loaf for the "privilege " of owning a Breville Bread Maker. Seems to be the way of the modern world. My mother bought a sewing machine in the 50's made clothes for 9 kids and it lasted 30 years. That's 60 years ago. What rubbish. Breville should be ashamed!

Bad machine
We bought the machine thinking it'd last us a while. With a year or so, the main button stopped working properly. Since it was under warranty, they fixed it although it took a while. One night, while making bread the machine fell off the bench. Since it's been 2.5 years since the purchase, they wouldn't fix it. We decided not to pay over $100 to fix it but by a panasonic bread maker instead. We hope it's a better quality with better service.

Paulus asked on Aug 30, 2013. I am still using these now
I use these units at least 2 to 3 times a week, I make a loaf that is as flat and brown on top as it is on the sides. I use the same bread recipe for crusty white as I do for my sultana loaf, that contains 220 grams of sultanas. For all my loaves I only use 500 grams of flour, Got to love these units. Mind you I think a few of my upgrade ideas would be beneficial to make the perfect loaf, Breville you are a little slow on the idea uptake. Paulus

So Far So Very Good
I've only had this bread maker for a few weeks and have baked around 20 bread loaves. Every time the results have been very good - great in fact. I've tried white bread,, multi grain, banana bread, gluten free bread and pizza dough. I've also experimented with both pre-mix packets as well as inserting the ingredients "from scratch". Every time I've been very happy.
I also particularly like the ease of use. The digital display is idiot proof and, most importantly over the Panasonic, it allows me to use the delay timer setting on gluten f...Read more

Great bread maker but disappointing service
I like my bread maker but my fruit dispenser is not working from day one. I realised that after 3 weeks. Now I don't have my 2 months old maker for 3 weeks because repair company waiting for the new lid! I'm very disappointed and I won't by anything anymore from breville.

Works wonderfully
I've had this bread machine for about 3 months. No complaints at all. As long as I always place the paddle in the upright position there are no dramas.
The crust setting is always on high for me and the bread ilovely and crunchy as promised. Even made some jam in it just for fun and it turned out perfectly. I am very pleased that I upgraded to this model.

Looked and decided to get a Brevile
We had a bread maker and it died big time just after the dough was rising, so we went on line and checked out the bread makers.
We decided to go for the Panasonic, but I wanted to have a look at The Breville as we have all Breville kitchen products and it would match.
We went on line again and was impressed with the reviews for the Breville, so of to the Good Guys and Harvey Norman to see what good deal we could get. First stop Harvey Norman, very friendly and helpful and the Sales lady knew bread makers, that was a good sign, we was offered ...Read more

The bread pan is too bad
My bread pan coating started to come off after six months, and the warranty doesn't cover the parts, only the machine only. This is very bad. I used the other brand before this for three year, the bread pan still very good. And I don't know I should buy another bread pan or buy a new machine. Will not buy Breville product again.

Great, except for the collapsible paddle
I love my Breville bread machine but the collapsible paddle is the only negative thing.
Every time I make bread, I clean my paddle with soapy warm water and a toothpick. With time, I noticed the paddle was getting stiffer until it stopped moving and I had enough!
I'm an engineer and I'm very technical curious, so I decided to overhaul the paddle. I went to my toolbox and grabbed my hex key L-wrenches and removed the hexagonal socket screws. I started with one first, cleaned the holes and I placed the screw back. I removed the other one and f...Read more

Very good machine
I have had this breadmaker for two weeks and have made six loaves of various kinds using several different flours. In each case the result has been excellent. I was a little dubious before buying because of some reported negative results, and read the manual twice before using to make sure that I was doing the right thing.
The collapsible paddle is not wonderful design, but it doesn't bother me and makes no difference to the rise, the fine crumb and the crisp crust of the loaf which also cuts very well. I have the option of removing it anyway. I am looking forward to trying the other facility of knead only to bake some artisan bread and baking gluten free bread for a coeliac friend. Delighted with the product!

Awesome!!
Love the Breville - The Custom Loaf Pro!! I am gluten and dairy free so I used the Biomed "Protein Rich Bread and Foccacia Mix" which has no yeast.
I just added:
450 gms of water.
50 gms of preferred oil
450 gms of the Biomed Protein Rich Bread and Foccacia Mix
I used the "Gluten Free" program with dark crust. In less than 2 hours the bread is ready.
The result? Perfect tasty and soft bread with a nice crust.
Congratulations, Breville!! Great Breadmaker!

Brilliant!
Does a great job. Have made bread for many years by hand, so when I received this as a gift for Christmas I was wrapped! I mostly use the dough function as I still like to shape and bake myself but this takes all the hard kneading out especially for wholemeals which take a bit of kneading (who needs a gym!). Haven't faced any problems yet, I like that it beeps too at the start of the last rise so you can whip the paddle out so only have a little hole at the bottom.
All round very pleased.

Great, except for the collapsible paddle
I have had my BBM800 breadmaker for less than two years, so still under warranty. It makes great bread, my only complaint is that the collapsible paddle has not worked for some time now. It is stuck in the upright position, and I can not move it at all. Breville tells me that it is not covered under warranty, because it is a 'consumable' (read the small print on the warranty page) By the definition of consumable in my dictionary, this item does not fall into that category! If the paddle is not covered by warranty, surely that can be written in the instruction book, and we would all be clear. The price of a new paddle is about $15, but that is not the point, and I agree that Breville's after sales service is not good!

How do I get the crust to brown?
1 answer
You have a custom pro machine. It is programmable. Read your book. Your programme selection dial can be turned anticlockwise and here you can start your very own set of programs. Select all the parameters that are in the program that you like that you are happy with, change just one at a time. Perhaps raise the baking temp 4- 5 degrees, or extend the baking time 5-10 minutes. But don’t do both at the one time.

I am getting a - - - H message. The machine has not been used for little over a week and has not been used intensively. Even put it in a room with a/c (live in a hot weather). Yet still get the message and can’t get it to work. Any help?
Jack M.asked
How do you get a decent colour on the top of the loaf? Mine always comes pale and looking uncooked.
