Terrible
Toaster keeps popping up, it takes several attempts to have the bread stay down to toast. Toasts unevenly, now after 9 months of patience and persistence the toaster button is now jammed. We really liked the sleek lines and shape of the toaster, but we have been very disappointed in this product. Spend your money somewhere else.

Hi Breville Team, I did just that and purchased the Breville Smart Toast, which everyone in our home is loving. I submitted incorrectly too, I actually had the Breville 4 slice "Bit More" not the lift and look. Thanks again. Vans.

Sadly the worst toaster ever
I bought this toaster from Harvey Norman 3 weeks ago. I decided to spend more than I usually would on a toaster because the description sounded so good.
This toaster dries out the toast (regardless of the setting) to the point that it is biscuit like. The elements work sporadically. Especially when we use frozen bread, it produces terrible results.
It IS a good looking toaster, but considering it functions so poorly, that pales into insignificance.
Harvey Norman is kindly accepting our return and I will be purchasing a different brand. Unfortunately I no longer trust any Breville toaster.

Best Toaster I have ever purchased
I am in my 50s so I have bought a lot and used a lot of toasters over the years and this is one is well worth the money. It toasts the bread evenly to the setting you set. It actually toasts crumpets perfectly when crumpet mode is selected (I must say the first toaster with crumpet mode that actually does this consistently) and the fruit bread is toasted perfectly also without burning when this mode is selected. Same applies to the frozen mode. Just to top it off the little bit more feature does just that. Just a tip that isn't spelt put ...Read more
that clearly in the instructions - all those feature buttons and modes should be selected before the toast/crumpet or fruit bread is pushed down - it doesn't appear to work if they are already depressed into the toaster. Also the progress light feature is quite helpful when multi tasking.2 comments

Don't buy this toaster
This toaster has bothered us for months. It is out of warranty by a month. For the last three months it pops the toast up soon after you've put it in, no matter what setting you use. So it requires monitoring to keep putting the toast back down until it is actually toasted. Terrible toaster.

Yet another poor review
Needed to replace my very old and well used and loved toaster (Breville).
Main priority was long slots but due to longevity of previous toaster went with Breville again.
This toaster was a complete waste of money.
Like most people have found, this toaster has a serious issue with premature pop up. When setting 'a bit more' the feature often does not work and so burns toast to black.
Very disappointed in toaster and Breville who appear to be relying on their previously good name to get away with producing rubbish.
This item should be...Read more

Hasn't worked properly since day one
Every time you are toasting it pops up three or four times, Even when you first push it down it pops up straight away and pops up another two to three times during toasting. There is a real mechanical problem obviously wasn't tested before leaving factory will never buy Breville again

Faulty & trips power breaker
Had I known about the issues about this toaster, I would not have bought one, the bread keeps popping out & now it trips the power breaker (RCD) out in the meter box & it renders all my power sockets in the kitchen useless. I have plugged it into different power sockets around the house & one by one it trips the breaker (RCD) I have an electrician coming to the house tomorrow & I'm going to get him to test it.

Good toaster, except when it won't keep the toast down
We had one of these for about 11 months. It started off ok, but gradually it became less reluctant to keep the toast down until it was ready. I thought it was a one-off issue so I took it back to David Jones and had it replaced under warranty. Trouble was the replacement did the same thing, only from the outset. Then I read the reviews and found out it is a product defect. I replaced that one a couple of days later for a DeLonghi.

prematurely pops up
I have just read the other reviews of this toaster, and wish I'd read them before purchasing; though this is such a good looking toaster, and the only stainless steel one with long slots that I could find, that I probably would have bought it anyway. But as has been the case for other reviews on here, the toaster keeps prematurely popping up during the toasting cycle, in a completely random fashion. We've had it for not quite 3 months, and I'm returning it. Will have to try and find a different toaster that suits my needs!

Happy - But...
Bought the four-slice toaster as the latest model of our previous Breville 4/slice toaster. Were happy with the previous model and got many years of use out of it before it folded. This model has somewhat different timing display but does essentially the same as our old model. Before purchasing read the reviews and noted the complaint that it would not stay down. Went ahead anyway as it is the only four-slice model that met our preferences. It cooks well - reasonably evenly but does tend to have trouble staying down from time-to-time. Occasiona...Read more
lly I have to press it down two or more times to get the mechanism to catch in the 'cook' mode. Sometimes it will pop-up on its own part way through cooking for no reason. Have found that pressing it down and holding down for a second seems to work best. As such, I can live with this issue as long as it does not get any worse. In all other regards we are happy with the toaster. Update June 2016: Since writing this review our toaster problem got worse rather than better, with it popping up multiple times for no apparent reason. We ended up taking it back under warranty and the GGuys replaced it for us. The new one is working fine.1 comment

Totally RUBBISH- Don't buy
This is the "Lift N Look" toaster, a very fancy looking model with silver buttons on the front. I must say it is an awesome toaster when it works.
1 month out of a 12 month warranty the timer packs up and it pops up at random times.
So I called Breville "Customer Service" who told me that they won't replace it! I told them that under ACCC appliances needed to last a "reasonable time frame" and the consultant told me that a year is considered a reasonable time. What ROT. Most toasters I have owned last years.
Outcome: They offered a 40% d...Read more
iscount off another product. Well Myer already have 40% off their toasters during the Boxing Day sales so NO benefit. Never buying Breville again! 1 year is NOT acceptable on a $100 toaster. Find a decent brand or buy at Costco where you can take anything back.2 comments
Just an update. After a second call Breville, they called Myer who agreed to exchange it.
So worth the extra phone calls as only 2 weeks over a year old.
Ok so went back to Myer who had NO record of the exchange credit number. But they changed it out of good will. Now it is home it "hisses" when it is plugged in. Returned AGAIN.

Complete Garbage and Poor Service
I made the mistake of buying this piece of rubbish without reading the reviews prior to puchase. I experieinced the same early pop-up issues as others have written about, which is clearly a known product-line fault. The problem was evident from day 1, but has become progressively worse until after 6 months it is now virtually unusable. Perhaps more disappointing was the lack of support from Breville Customer Service. This was a bad experience all around and I will steer clear of this brand in the future!

Worst Toaster Ever - An absolute lemon of a design
I also bought this toaster, 2 months into owning it it started popping up the toast every 20 seconds. It wasn't reliable some mornings it would pop up every 20 sec for every toast and other days not at all. We tried putting it on a board and tried plugging it into different points but the results were always pretty patchy. I guess we were otherwise preoccupied because we just kept up with it for almost a year. Just shy of a year it started popping up every 4 seconds beyond frustrating when you are rushing to get kids to school so we decided it...Read more

Original and replacement had the early pop-up problem
Sadly this is the biggest pile of (insert rude word here) that I've seen from Breville, and as a result will be the last Breville product that we purchase. Two different units (the original and the replacement) kept popping up after 10 or 20 seconds, no matter what settings. Reading the many reviews of the same issue here, I'm just annoyed that I didn't check with this site prior to wasting time and money on this toaster. DO NOT PURCHASE, you will need to return it. Breville, what on earth are you thinking releasing an absolutely poor product like this, it has one main purpose, to toast stuff, can't even do that.

Was a good toaster that didn't last
I have had this $90 toaster for 15 months. I originally bought it for its long toast slots and crumpet option.
In the last week it has started prematurely popping up and will not let you select any options on the front control panel.
I have had Breville products in the past that have been pretty good. This toaster is a real disappointment.
I did try to return it to the Good Guys, but it was just out of warranty.

Great toaster but no matter how I try crumpets burn on one side. Just seems that the elements are hotter at one edge I have tried twisting and turning but one edge always burns.

Terrible. Not worth your time replacing it with another
We bought this toaster as the first reviews we found at the time were good and for the price (on special) thought it a good buy.
Our first one was returned within the fortnight as started to pop during the toasting cycle immediately. We persevered for awhile as toasted so well. This was replaced and the second one had no issue with popping but toasted so unevenly with one side not colouring the bread at all whilst the other side charred it. I contacted Breville within the fortnight again and was told to return it for replacement. Was hoping fo...Read more

Another one here that it worked great at first but after just 3 months (got it for Christmas) it pops after 10-20 seconds sometimes! So annoying when its so expensive for a toaster!

looks great, toasts well
Pros
Easy to keep metal clean
Cooks well enough but I have never had to go higher than 2 on the dial which goes to 5 so I am unsure why the higher levels.
Good for crumpets and larger slices of bread which all fit into slot well.
Like the Bit More button
Con
LED indicator lights up and stays on for maybe 30 seconds every time toaster is plugged into power and also stays on when in use. Unsure why this needs to light up when plugged into power?

Worst Toaster Ever
I liked the features of this toaster but the actual functionality is terrible. I must have bought a lemon considering other reviews. THe toaster would pop up after only 10 seconds, sometimes it wouldn't even stay down and most of the time if I cooked a piece of bread after cooking a crumpet one side would be overcooked. I won't be buying a Breville toaster again!

I have a Breville toaster bta730 - it’s our second one- it is constantly beeping and pops up seconds after pushing it down- I’ve cleaned out the crumb tray and gently turned it upside down- still no change... any tips?
1 answer
Just make sure you push it down firmly so that it locks in properly.
If you find this doesn't help if it is in the 12 month warranty see if you can get a new one under warranty.

I decided to clean crumbs from my BTA730 model and tipped it upside down and now it no longer locks in place! Is this a repair job or can I 'fix' myself?
1 answer
Call Breville, tell them the unit is faulty or take back to store and get a refund. This model is a lemon.

Just bought the BTA730 and it continually pops up when toast is pushed down. Does this on all settings, not impressed with this operation. After reading many reviews on this product, it seems like a lot of other people are having the same problem as me. Any solutions as replacement doesn't seem to be the answer?

I would first get it replaced under warranty, you never know the next one might not be a dud. But if it is then you can explore your consumer rights having taken the first step :)
In the first instance take it back to the place of purchase, I had no issues with exchanging my toaster. Having said that the replacement was even worse. Emailing Breville will just get you a standard reply, "Please be advised our products meet Australian Design Regulations and Breville has stringent quality control procedures in place" My request for another model met with a reply "speak to Myer to see what they can do!", no accountability from Breville at all. I now steer well clear of anything Breville. Had they have been more supportive I would think otherwise.
