5 years later and it still makes perfect black crema coffees and hot water on demand. I would have bought this one again of they did not removed it from production. May be it was too good and reliable with very little further sales growth ... I look forward hearing reviews from their new range..

Makes perfect cappuccino! I have the Breville milk frother too and together they make a great duo. I love the coffee beans from Aldi. There's no filler and the dark roast is just perfect for us. The coffee machine is super easy to clean and every cup is always great. You can change the level of coffee in the filter, and programme the amount of water dispensed so the machine can make huge mugs of coffee, or a tiny demitasse and 2 at a time! There's so much variety with this machine. This machine was purchased second hand because our identical machine sadly passed away. I'm a fan of all Breville products. They are ahead of the opposition. Enjoy your coffee, Dianne.

I use Breville espresso machines for 25 years, but this latest from the 800 series toppled them all. I had to change my barista habits to get the best out of this machine. I get now superb creamy espresso coffees. Those who give it less then 5 stars have no knowledge or have a faulty machine

Has made great coffee for the past year or so. Recently though, it has started leaking water out the back, and yesterday it tripped the switch. Out of warranty too so I can't get it repaired :( Sad that such a good machine can be let down by a lack of longevity
Good coffee while it lasted
Short lived

Machine looks good and makes excellent coffee
Have had my Pro 820 machine for a few years now, was bought for me by restaurant as part of a salary arrangement, I was taught how to make coffee there too :)
Recently had a noise in the Italian made water pump and machine was sent to Breville for service, returned back in a week and is now silent again and still making terrific coffee.
I use '5 senses' beans and grind them as I need to use them. I love the coffee I make at home better than I get when out in 'coffee shops' as they usually 'boil' the milk making it thin and not enjoyably by c
Perfect crema
I love this coffee machine.
It was bought for me over 2 years ago and it is still going strong!
Perfect crema and silky smooth milk is the key to a good coffee and that is what this machine gives.
Quick to heat and easy to clean, never had a problem!
Quick to heat, excellent milk frother, great crema results.
A little bit noisey..
Bad
I have contacted Breville. They asked me to make sure I use espresso blend ground for espresso machines. I have tried one from the supermarket pre-ground and still no difference. My last resort is to go to a coffee place and have fresh beans ground. If this doesn't work I'll be sending it back. I use to have a stove top..only cost me $80 and it made a perfect cup of coffee without all this fussing around to try and get it right, but had to get rid of it because it kept rusting inside. I am so disppointed I have spent $350 on a machine only to g

I really can't think of a pro for this machine except maybe the fact that you can keep your cups warm on top and the storage tray inside the machine I cannot, no matter how many different ways I have tried to produce a good cup of coffee, get a decent full flavour. It seems too watery.
Excellent
I can't fault this machine at all, as I've had 2 less expensive coffee machines previously and they both died.
Both were very noisy and made only reasonable coffee, this Breville machine is almost silent by comparison and the coffee richness produced can be pre-programmed into the machine so it comes out the same each time, just as you enjoy it.
I can admit 'L O V E' is a difficult word to admit to using with a coffee machine, but when you understand how they work and you use a good grinder and fresh beans these machines will make coffee bette
This machine is the best
I have just taken our machine in for repair - 5 years and had no problems ever. Looked like a switch and happened to be a short in the boiler. Repair guy said that he sees one or two a decade and no idea why.
So I came to look for a replacement and after 5 years of perfect coffee will but another. Why dbills1951 can't get a good cup is beyond me. Mid range Woolies beans, perfect cup everytime. I drink espresso and spend my life in café's drinking average to rubbish coffees that can't hide behinf milk and froth and sugar.
Give me an 800 ES.

Durability at its best.
I was given this coffee machine as a gift 5 years ago and its never lost a beat makes a perfect coffee every time, runs rings around the opposition in durability and in price. you wont be disapointed
reliable, inexpensive, energy efficient
Perfect if you know how to use it.
Coffee: I think this machine is pretty good. I recently bought it and so far I always get good coffee.
Froth: The cover of the steam wand needs to be removed to produce micro-foam froth. It takes a bit longer to froth the milk (maybe because the steam wand doesn't produce so much steam?).
This link is very helpful for those who wants to learn to make good milk froth:

Good luck!
Reasonable price, nice looking machine, makes good coffee
A bit noisy and what is that pressure indicator for?
Great whilst it worked
Loved this coffee machine for the 2.5 years it worked. I used a quality burr grinder and bought fresh whole beans, this made terrific black espresso. Loved the semi automatic function so much easier in the morning when you are half asleep not having to count the pour. Also loved the pressure gauge which lets you know if you are over or undergrinding your beans, until you get the grind just right. However like my old sunbeam semi it died within 3 years. Thank you extended myer warranty for once again refunding me the purchase price. Why can't these machines last!!.
Great coffee
Broke at 2.5 years
This could've been my review, except I didn't have an extended warranty - it was repaired 2 months ago and sounds like it's on it's way out again!

Makes Good Coffee
I've been using this Breville espresso machine. I tend to buy good quality fresh roasted coffee and use a burr grinder. I always get favourable comments from guests, even from those with more expensive coffee machines.
It's fairly simple to use and if you get the grinds and the tamping right, let it warm up properly, the coffe comes out good. It's very easy to use.
What I'm not so keen on is the "fake crema booster" technology they use. It's totally unnecessary if you use good coffee. The milk froth making is OK but you need to throw away th

All 3 machines have operated quite differently. One was very noisey, the other didn't produce enough pressure (same coffee and tamping).
The steam pump went on the first one in the first 2 months of use. Hesitant to get a 4th one as customer care don't really want to look at the problem they just keep asking us to exchange it. I really can't believe that the same problem has now occured 3 times in as many months.
Once again, is anyone else experiencing the same problems?

Mine blew up one month after the warranty ended and breville couldn't care less.
Good
I bought this on special ($100 off!) even though it was a little over my budget for a coffee machine to use mostly just on Saturday & Sunday mornings. But I'm happy I spent the money because the coffee is so much better than my (very) old machine. It certainly makes better coffee than the ones from the coffee shop I pick up my Monday to Friday morning coffee!
Makes great coffee. Looks great, but doesn't take up too much bench space. Easy to set up & use and is easy to clean. Good size reservoir. Great frothing.
It is a little bit noisy. Hard to achieve less frothy milk.
Questions & Answers
Hi There,
My Breville BES820 coffee machines switches on normally but then the power button just keeps flashing and does nothing else. Can anyone help?
Hi Angelo, Have you tried the program button? The only other thing you could try is to go directly to Breville and ask for help there. It's a great machine. I don't want ours to die, there isn't a better one out there, so good luck getting it up and running. Dianne.
Hi Sleepless in Brisbane, I’ve tried that but to no avail. I did forget to mention that it had been in storage for a number of years, so not sure if that is an issue. It is a great machine and I was going to give to someone, their eyes lit up when they saw it but then the disappointment when it didn’t heat up! Thanks for your reply.
Good day! I recently took my bes820 out of storage and it won’t pump water. Makes all the usual noises but no water or steam comes out. Any idea where I can start trouble shooting?
Could be that the strainer filter is blocked. It would build up pressure but not let the water through. You could try undoing the filter (where you put the coffee in) and see if the water will go through. Then you could just buy a new insert and problem solved. Otherwise phone Breville and see what they suggest. It's a great coffee machine, we're really happy with ours but there are several things which can stop it from working. My husband has replaced some parts which were plastic with metal ones he has made and he keeps the machine working. Don't know why Breville have stopped making the same model. Having the water tank at the front is a much better idea, easy to fill, easy to clean! Good luck, Dianne.
Hi there, I have had this machine for a number of years now, and very recently it has not been producing enough steam to froth the milk. After closer inspection I noticed that there was a water dripping from a hose connection that was located after the pump. Thankfully, I kept my old machine for spare parts (Yes, it is the same model). I replaced the part that was leaking using my old machine. Basically replaced the whole pump and reconnected all the hoses. However, now when I start it up (which it does perfectly), it does not appear to pump any water. I suspect that there is air in hoses, etc that is causing it to not suck the water. My question is do I have to prime the pump somehow, to ensure that there is no air in the hoses and parts between the water reservoir and the pump? Any help would be much appreciated. PS. I live in Brisbane.
Thanks in advance
Hi Carc, My husband is the one to talk to, but he's gone to bed. If you'd like to phone him around 5.30 tomorrow afternoon he might have some ideas. We love our Breville, but it's the same as you've done. We've married about three machines. He's even made one part out of metal instead of plastic. Sounds like you're pretty clever too. Breville make a fantastic milk frother. I don't use the one attached to the machine, the one they sell alone works a lot better. We're in Brisbane too. 33255567 cheers Dianne.
Hi Dianne. Thanks so much for the quick response. Thankfully I was able to get the pump to finally work. I disconnected the hose going into the pump and syringed water into it. That appeared to have resolved the issue. Hopefully we will get a few more years out of the machine. I has run really well so far. Thanks again and for the Frother tip.

I think that you never used it right. Coffee from an expresso machine such as this one will never taste the same as coffee from a stove top maker. End of story.
