Unreliable Starter

published

Whilst the kettle boils quickly and always turns off, getting it to start is a real hit and miss. Rarely will it commence boiling with the first flick of the lever. Usually it flicks back up 2-3 times before it activates. And sometimes not straight away either. There can be a up to a 5 sec delay and then it will turn off. I've tried turning the kitchen once in the base, in case contact was a problem, but to no avail. Every other Breville kitchen product we have is great, so this must be our lemon. It is less than a year old, but unfortunately I can't find the receipt, so we'll just persevere. Ggrrrr.

Good Kettle with two main downsides

published

Breville small appliances are always reliable, and this kettle is too.

This is a solid kettle that does the job, boils the water quite fast, easy to clean, and it looks great on my kitchen bench.

However, I expected more for the price I paid.

I hate the high pitched ping sound that you get when the water is boiled and the kettle switches itself off. As if the kettle wasn't noisy enough.

The worst thing to me is that the see-through areas are useless. The material and the colour of it attracts water condensation, so you basically see water drops all over, not the water level. A Target 10 dollar kettle has a better see-through system..

great hot water kettles

published

I bought the hot water kettle from Myer and it kept on working for many years without a hitch except sometimes it would get stuck on boil though that problem was easily fixed by turning the kettle and then letting it cool down and it would be back to normal for it's price range it's absolutely outstanding

Basic, reliable kettle

published

We researched so many kettles when our old one died, but after checking reviews of the ones with all the multi-beverage boiling options (heating to a certain temp) and realising none of them had good reviews, we decided to go with this kettle. Simple, it works, it looks fine and won't go out of style anytime soon. And it was a very reasonable price. Happy customer.

Works well BUT...

published

A Great kettle if you don't want to boil water twice in a row. I have a big family and when we fill up one pot of tea, we then want hot water for coffees etc. Can't do it with this kettle as it has a 'protection system' that doesn't allow you to boil it again while it's still WARM. Totally frustrating and useless for our family. Had to return it.

good kettle but plastic erodes

published

I've had this kettle for a few years now and just noticed that the plastic near the spout has been eroding and fine deposits of powder have been going into our drinks - not ideal! Other than this it was a great product. Not sure how long kettles are meant to last these days but anyone that owns one of these should keep an eye on this problem.

Awful kettle

published

I bought this kettlw as it's hard to get one that's not "smar"t these days but not s cheap plastic one. I'd had 2 cheap plastic and was so k of them leaking. This is worse. It leaks. The top doesn't close and it's auto off doesn't work. Terrible terrible waste of money

Worst kettle

published

I bought this kettle as it looked good and seemed to be a quiet one. After a few uses it didn't shut off and kept boiling. It also developed a rust looking substance on the bottom of the kettle giving the water an orange colour. Yes it was quieter and looked good but did not do the job properly. Luckily it was still under warranty to be changed.

good kettle

Its cheaper than most, works well, makes a ding noise when boiled. Makes a little bit of noise but I think most of them do. I had a $150 Morphy Richards I reckon this kettle is better and cheaper.

Not too happy

published

This kettle is quiet, aesthetically nice on my bench, the handle feels good in my hand compared to others. It boils quicker than others, however this is my second one that doesn't shut off when it comes to the boil. I just swapped this one over, as the other one was under 12 months. I have used it 4 times & 3 times it has not shut off automatically, so back it goes!

Smart and quick to boil kettle

published

What can you say really, it does what it's designed to do. It boils water. It's fast and quiet and I've not had any problems at all with mine. What I will say though is it looks stylish. Perfect for our kitchen and to match our toaster. Would recommend to any.
Looks good, does what it's suposed to do

So much condensation

published

Purchased the Breville BKE495BS recently from the Good Guys. I use the Kettle sporadically but I have noticed that the water condensation inside the kettle takes a while to evaporate...is that normal ? Breville, can you please comment....Thanks. Other notable notice points is that when it's boiling it moves and shakes about on it's base considerably. Otherwise, it's a good kettle.
Functional
The condensation ??

Pretty solid kettle

published

Was after a stainless steel kettle with BPA plastic that is pleasing to the eye. Got this one. It's pretty noisy, but has a cute sound when the waters done boiling. I got mine only near the start of this year but it's already developing the mineral deposit stains so I'll be looking to buy some sort of cleaner for it.
Reliable, nice-looking
Pricy, loud

Good looking kettle

I love my new "Cranberry" coloured Breville Soft Top Clear Kettle, and guess what, it's entirely functional as well! Quick to boil, can easily read the water level through the clear window, and it let's off a cute little bell when the water has boiled. I also love the soft open lid. Top marks Breville.
Quick boil, quiet opearation, and the soft open lid.

Brilliant No Nonsense Kettle

published

Having moved into a new house it was no longer efficient to use my stove top kettle any more so I was in the hunt for an electric replacement.
The Breville soft Top Clear ticked all my boxes, stainless steel, fast boiling, concealed heating element, easy to see water level, not much plastic, no added taste to the water that's boiled.
Does what a kettle needs to well

I have just bought the Breville BKE 495 kettle from David Jones. I suppose it is self explanatory to use but I would like to know if the clear window gauge should be lit as it is very very difficult to see how far it has been filled. Thank you.Geri

Where is the breville soft open kettle batch code and the offer code as I've looked everywhere on, under, around, in the booklet, even on the receipt and can't find either of these for me to register this product for warranty . The model number is BKE445 as it's not in the "select Model" option in the next question

The model I've got is BKE425 not BKE445. The batch code is on the outside of the box, however the offer code I have no idea as I received this item as a present.
Kind regards, H2me
