Charles Strite would be so disappointed!
Charles Strite invented the pop up toaster in 1919. Just over 100 years later I wonder why Breville have barely progressed it?!
To say this toaster is slow is to understate the case considerably. Watching grass grow might be quicker. It takes ages, but if that were its only flaw I'd give it an extra star or two.
But it's the control that seems insane. It is set from 1 to 6. 3 delivers a black lump of charcoal, so be prepared for your smoke detectors having a panic attack if you ever set it to 6! I tried 2.5 and it was barely toasted. I tried ...Read more
3 and it burned. Really? In 100 years we've not been able to get this right? Why is there a 1 to 6 setting? A 2.6 to 2.7 range would cover it. I bought this under duress. The old $20 plastic Coles special had just blown a circuit breaker so I needed a new one. I paid $99 for this piece of junk because electrical stores are in the grip of the virus and I just wanted to be in and out. Please don't get caught the way I did!Purchased in March 2021 at The Good Guys for A$99.00.

Wobbles....poor build quality in my opinion
Straight out of the box this toaster wobbles on a perfectly even bench surface. Tried it on other surfaces, same wobble.
First toaster in 35 years to wobble. Poor quality control.in my opinion Looks nice otherwise.
Looks like Breville have disappointed me this time...

Utter Trash
Toasts much hotter towards the middle meaning if you do 4 slices, then half of each slice begins to burn before the other side begins to toast.
Toaster pays no attention to the timer you set and pops up randomly.
Cancel button lights when pulling the rack down seems to cause the rack to just pop back up.
Ended up beating the thing to pieces to save me stress. Will never buy Breville again.

Does the job pretty well, can get quite hot though
Having to replace our old toaster, we had a specific set of features in mind - four slices, two independent settings, wide slots, suitable for crumpets and bagels, frozen, consistent toasting, high lift. After a couple of hours on-line while standing in Myer we settled on the Breville the Toast Control 4, nicely priced with 20% off.
The unit is a fairly sturdy affair, so solid that it actually showed up a slight unevenness in the kitchen bench - it wobbles slightly! The slots are large and able to accept thick bread "door steps", cut bagels,...Read more
crumpets and most things we've tried. The high-lift feature (manually lifting smaller items at the end of the toasting cycle) doesn't quite lift as high as its predecessor (by about 1cm) but is tolerable. With basic white or multi-grain bread, once we had the setting right, it seems to work just fine - I like my toast slightly darker than my wife likes hers so it's nice to have independent sides and controls. An important feature is the consistency of toasting more slices straight after the first set and here it was impressive, with little variation between the first and subsequent slices. The Frozen cycle seems to work well too, delivering almost identical results with frozen bread to the normal slices, fruit bread is about the only thing we have yet to try. The Lift & Look is a nice feature, allowing you to quickly lift the toast to look at it without interrupting the toasting cycle. For those time when you just want a little bit darker or to re-warm toast which has cooled, the A Bit More button is also very useful. It should be said that the outside of the cabinet does get quite hot at the end of a cycle, not searingly so but you couldn't hold your hand on it for long. Another thing we did notice it that it is a bit of a finger-print magnet, the brushed surface in particular, but we bought it for its toasting ability and in that it succeeds. All in all, not a bad little toaster and, at Myer's price of $89, very acceptable.Purchased in January 2021 at Myer for A$89.00.

Good Value
Toasts as evenly as any toaster that I've previously owned.
Looks well made, attractive finish, and has a feel of quality in the workings.
Best price by a mile that I could find was from Target.
Purchased in January 2021 for A$88.00.

Great for white bread.....
Toasts the kids white bread just fine.
But for my grainy gluten free, it takes three rounds on the hottest settings
6 plus frozen button
I replaced my 20 year old 4 slice breville with this.
The quality has gone way down hill
This one is very ‘tinny’
It’s okay but definitely expecting a shorter life span.

Breville 4 slice, Good.
Purchased from Target, this is a good product, does it's job well & has just enough options to be useful. Two to three on the slider does ordinary toast nicely, muffins & crumpets are done at a higher setting, with the frozen or fruit bread option working well also the lift & look is a great idea especially until you get used to toaster. It didn't glow very red & that concerned me at first but the toast comes out fine.
Purchased in July 2021 at Target Australia for A$119.00.

Very poor toasting times
Despite that this toaster is rated up to 1500W, its performance in terms of toasting times is well below expectations. In the past, most toasters I have used will toast a slice of bread within 60-90 seconds. This toaster generally takes 3-4 minutes for normal light brown toast. It does not seem much, but it becomes very annoying to have to wait for the toaster to finish.

Okay, does the job
We do eat a lot of toast in our house and do find it's a little slow. It definitely beats the old el cheapo toaster we were previously looking at. We just use normal slice bread and it toasts evenly for us. I do love the look and how it is stainless steel all over. I've seen quite a few with a mix of steel and plastic and I definitely prefer this. But honestly we are not too fussed and it does the job.

Its just ok.....
I bought this toaster a few months ago and thought it would be better. its just ok. Its a bit slow. just doesn't seem to have much power to it. I do like the bit more button though- very helpful! Probably not worth over $100.
But really a toaster is a toaster- they all do they same thing right!

Slowest toaster ever
Considering all the different toasters out there in different price ranges, spending over $100 puts you in the upper range. This one is not worth it. We’ve had this toaster a few moths now and everyone in the household has complained about how slow it is. I timed it before writing this review and it took 2min 52 seconds to cook a slice from fresh to lightly golden brown. This was on setting 2. We don’t eat lots of bread in our house, so often we freeze it, this toaster has a frozen setting, it can potentially take up to 5 minutes for your toast...Read more
to pop if you go from frozen. This is the slowest toaster we have ever had and I will not buy again. I have a number of breville products with no issues, so it’s a trusted brand for me, but this product is very disappointing.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Better than the Sunbeam Cafe Series.
Nice appearance and definitely quicker than our previous Sunbeam Café Series. Love the lift and look feature. Not very reliable with toasting - sometimes quite dark on a particular setting & other times light. I don't particularly like the loud pop sound when the toast is done. My kids love it so overall not a terrible purchase.
Overall, easy to use and a good price compared to others on the market. I will stick with it.
