If you want to be cheated this is your place!
This old & rundown gym is in serious need of TLC! Further, the customer service (or lack thereof) is atrocious. They made a mistake in the setup of my contract & direct debit payments, so the few times I came after hours, their doors were broken- $ as I was swiping in, I had no idea I was 'denied access' & not set up as a rightful member due to their earlier administrative mistakes. As soon as I knew there was a problem, I came to resolve the error.
There was no apology from them, no accountability from their end- rather they said I was lucky ...Read more
I was not charged a dishonour fee, and if I did not pay all they said I was owing that the debt collectors would sort it out. I did not think it fair, that I should pay a set up fee & have to pay a further 2 wks to cancel, when I was inconvenienced & locked out from getting into the gym. The manager was aggressive & condescending, & in order to be rid of the problem I had to pay $ 130 total for a meager use of this sad gym 4 times!! They do not care about their customers but the every $ that they can squeeze out of unsuspecting consumers. If you need a 24 hrgym there is a better one up the road near central station.

A walking, talking rude
I wish i could say that the employees at this deteriorating establishment lack basic manners and mutual respect for their fellow man... but no.
If rude could walk on two legs, you will find it there.
Absolutely appalling behavior from the staff. Went there with 1.2 grand for 3 of us to sign up for a year, we met rude incarnate, and upon an innocent inquiry, NOT a complaint, in regards to a minor discrepancy in their advertised pricing, I was abruptly told, "buddy, this is the price, if you don't like it then go somewhere else". An unwarrante...Read more

Terrible gym. Owner is a nincompoop.
Rusty machines.Owner is rude and dishonest and is oblivious to his pathetic customer service and ethics . He is argumentative with patrons and then lies in review responses instead of looking at himself in the mirror.

WORST, AWFUL, DISGUSTING, PATHETIC Trust me the place is a mess the equipment/machines etc. are old and DANGERIOUS I go in to get membership and a fat overweight male comes out and straight off the cuff ask me How long do I plan to be in AUSTRALIA, Why? because I have dark skin. I tell him I am Australian and wanted to ask him the same question because he himself was dark skin. Racial profiling and discrimination from illiterate unqualified STINKY STAFF SAD GYM. Broadway gym complaint review
This gym is very dirty, there is some new equipment but most of it is old and dangerous. The toilets are disgusting. I struggle not to vomit when I go inside them. The staff are so sadly unaware of customer service and most importantly management will rob you if they can. Do not give them money for membership as they WILL close down soon. I assure you, BEWARE.

Petty power hungry staff
Would rather give these guys ZERO stars but I had to choose one.
I have been a paying member for 2 yrs, however arrived this Sunday and was locked out. No email to explain a planned change of procedure, no notices, just a rude receptionist pointing her finger at me saying that I wasn't allowed in until I paid for a swipe. Excuse me for thinking that my membership fee be payment enough for the gym to be open during scheduled class times!
I emailed the gym seeking an explanation, got no reply. So I returned on Tuesday to attend another sche...Read more
duled class. The owner stopped me in the stairwell denying me the opportunity to stay. Apparently members should have seen the notices pasted around the gym. He points out one A4 page with 10 point font blue tacked next to the doorway. And goes on to tell me that no emails were sent because "humans make mistakes and he can't rely on email addresses because people write them down wrong". Appealing to his "humanness" I suggest that he let me attend the 6-7pm class and let me out the door at 7:02! At this point he threatened me with a fine of $250 if I did not leave the gym before 7. Additionally he threatened the job of the instructor, saying that if he used his swipe to let me out at the end of class, he would lose his job. Petty, pathetic people on a power trip, no commitment to health or exercise. The numbers of people have dropped significantly this year. It's no wonder with kind of service.Similar opinion? Stay well away from here
I'd been a member for over two years. In spite of its degenerate conditions, it was still a friendly place with John and Felicity in charge, and that's what made the difference.
The new management has taken even that little bit of redemption away. The manager/owner is a despicable man. He's rude, arrogant and offensive. And he's clearly converting it into a 24-hour model so he can avoid any speak of customer service.
Spend your money elsewhere. It's not worth the lower price by a mile.

Save your money
This is a pretty run down spot and you're better off finding another gym worth the money. The second floor absolutely reeks of sweat along with the overpowering old rubber molding.

Unbelievably rude management (zero stars)
I was a member at this gym for over 6 years when Felicity and John ran the gym. I took a break after the birth of my first child and returned to the gym today. I asked the new management if i could trial the gym today, the manager was on the phone. He was disinterested and said that i had to apply for a viewing online. I then asked if i could at least look around. He seemed really inconvenienced and told me to sit on the waiting chairs. I sat there and waited as he continued his personal call. I then applied online using my phone for the trial...Read more
. When the manager finally came over to me, I told him that i had used my phone to submit my details for the trial. He then said i had to wait 24 hours. I told him that he had shocking customer service, and i advised him i felt so shocked by his disinterest in a new membership i should write a review. He then said "ok go write a review, only losers write a review". My jaw dropped and I did an about turn and left the gym. I miss the old management who treated their customers like family. The new management is awful. I will now go and join Victoria park gym. At least they have a pool.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

It's a disgrace to being called a gym
From the time I landed in sydney 3 years back I have joined this gym and I would have continued to be a loyal customer of it had the new management not taken over.. with the previous management were also money minded but we're really friendly and.. almost all the staff knew me and at times would even help me if I ever needed.. had made good friends with people who were coming at the same time I was going. .
But from the time the new management has taken over.. Most of those old guys have left due to the unruly rude behavior of the new manageme...Read more

A basic and no-nonsense gym
Basically, if you want a functional gym that is cheaper and better equipped than your uni gym then this is a good one for you. The new management are slowly changing the place and despite the obvious teething issues they're doing ok, even though they're taking a bloody long time to get everything done.
The new managers have reopened the third level of the gym and the classes are now held up there on a really nice polished wooden floor. The next level down is still for a lighter work out with more cable machines and a bunch of 'new' machines,...Read more
and the same dirty carpet. Here's hoping they replace that with the same heavy-duty rubber they have on level one. Level one has a bunch of new and better cardio machines. The heavy duty part of the gym has a new dead-lift station and a few other machines. Although I am a bit annoyed that they got rid of some of my favourite equipment. Hygiene is the same as it was under the old management, I wouldn't touch the showers or the sauna. They're a biohazard. I saw the manager eject a snooty couple who decided not to bring towels which was good to see. They also seem to have gotten rid of a few others who were doing the same. The gym provides towels, use the bloody things. They also have paper and spray to wipe the equipment but no-one uses it. There are a few people who work there who should probably be fired for not cleaning up. A few times the gym has been really messy and that is a huge problem because this place is already pretty cramped.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

I Woudn't Even Give A Star
I have to agree with the person that wrote the new management comment. They took over the place, made some changes... Let's start from the beginning.
I have joined to the gym because it was the closest to my place. First thing I realized that the gym was extremely dirty. It was clear that they simply just didn't clean. Later I got to experience in person: My girlfriend who doesn't really like the gym environment, finally joined. She attempted the classes, which were held on the carpet, which as I mentioned weren't cleaned. We didn't know tha...Read more
t. After a few sessions she realized that she is having some kind of skin problem. She stopped going to the gym and since I could not get her into any gyms. Other than that, it was a rubbish gym but good enough for me, at least I didn't get sick. Rules were rules but nobody was enforcing them, like have towels, etc. After the new management took over, once I went to train just as usual and this new guy, came to me, you can not get in to the gym, because you don't have a towel. I said, well, I have been a member for a while, nobody had told me before that I need to take a towel. (I took towels with me, whenever I used benches, etc. On that day I had leg workout, squats etc. No benches, so I didn't bother taking towel.) Long story short, they sent me home or they said they will cancel my membership. So I had to go home. Since that time, I realized that so many members are not having towels, they aren't been asked and even other rules are violated and still nothing happened. Which is very funny knowing the fact, that the guy sent me home, because he made others to buy the towel, that is what he said, so he has to be consistence. Where is the consistency I asked many many times myself after I saw so many people ignoring all kind of rules.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

The new management team are a disgrace
I joined Broadway Gym in early 1984 - and I am the longest serving continuous member of the gym. I have been a member of the gym for all the owners who have owned the gym since it's inception and remember them all fondly. As a reward for completing 25 years continuous membership I was awarded FREE LIFE MEMBERSHIP (with a CERTIFICATE) in 2010 by the gym - one of the proudest moments of my life. I have used the facilities of Broadway regularly (and this year - 2015 was my 32nd. year) and enjoyed the friendship, companionship of other members an...Read more
d staff. I have made many long term friends from attending the gym - and we still remain friends. Over the many years of my membership, I have become an institution at Broadway and I have used in various testimonials for the gym - as a long term member. I formed a close bond with the previous management team (including John, Felicity, Matthew etc.) In January 2015 a new management team took over BROADWAY GYM. The new management team dismissed at the previous long serving friendly staff from the front of office staff to the Gym manager. Several months later when I arrived to attend my usual boxing class - I was asked to leave and thrown out of the Gym - by management for not being a paid up member - I was not permitted to enter the facility. I attempted to discuss my membership status - FREE LIFE MEMBERSHIP with the new management team - however they refuse to discuss my membership status and refused to acknowledge or honour my LIFE MEMBERSHIP. I wrote to the management team reminding them that when they took over the management of the GYM they took over both the assets, liabilities and members. The new management team refused to discuss anything with me until I PAID UP- and became a PAID UP MEMBER. They would not honour my membership status - even as a gesture of good will. They refused to answer any of my correspondence and return calls. I contacted FAIR TRADING NSW regarding the issue and FAIR TRADING NSW supported my claim (for Life Membership) - the new management team told FAIR TRADING I would not be allowed to attend the GYM Their attitude towards me had hardened). The new management team told FAIR TRADING that I would not be allowed to attend the gym unless I paid up - and that my Life Membership status was awarded from the previous management team and they would not recognise it. Fair trading apologised for the response they received and advised me to take my business elsewhere.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Do not join this gym
Save yourself time and money. Look at the long list of negative reviews on this page and other review pages. The only thing this gym had going for it was its long serving staff who were sacked by new owners. Never going back now

What once was an actually OK gym has in a short time deteriorated into a filthy hellhole that makes you uncomfortable to even be there. A lot of the machines are broken or are in a state of disrepair and there are no wipes or anything to wipe down the machines. A lot of the clientele here look like they have just got out of gaol or are junkies and you get the most hardcore bodybuilding types. So if you like the incessant grunting at 50 decibels and dropping weights and also being asked if someone can "work in with you" on the machine you are on...Read more
even if there is nobody else in the gym, this is the place for you. Built over 2 levels the gym is cramped so avoid during peak times (5 pm - 7:30 pm). Broadway Gym are massive penny pinchers and it shows everywhere you look, there is no water fountain or bubbler (you are forced to buy water if you forget to bring a bottle), a lot of the lockers have their locks busted open, rusty equipment, the sauna is only turned on if asked by front desk and there is rubbish all over the toilet seats. Despite paying about $500 for a year's membership, which is still quite a good deal for somewhere this close to the Sydney CBD, it's not worth the pain or dealing with all the broken machines. Staff seem to be ambivalent about anything that gets broken. Most of the exercise machines would be over 20 years old. Yoga classes are now taken on the floor of the gym rather than in a separate room and the instructor will shriek at you if you dare use the rowing machine or talk too loudly if there is a class on. This is totally unacceptable and should never happen in a gym. What was once a great place with some great staff has deteriorated into a filthy cesspit. Avoid. good location, cheap(ish) filthy, broken machines, yoga classes on gym floorSimilar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
