Broadway Gym (page 4 of 4)
Indescribably awful, but I'll try.
Community Health and Fitness Centre? Yeah, no, more like rundown gymnasium from hell. Where to begin? I wanted to start exercising regularly somewhere cheap and close to home and Broadway Gym which is just down the road from me had a six week trial coupon for 19 dollars which struck me as too good to be true. In a way, it really was. From the get-go, the consultation guy with no fitness background but a marketing degree pressured me, put me down and requested to know my relationship status as well as delivering one of the worst one minute curso...
Read morery "tours" of a gym I've ever experienced, in which he failed to demonstrate how to use any of the machines I asked him about and suggested I try instead, laughing at me from behind. This guy told me and my friend that our goals (long life and musculoskeletal health for me, being able to run fourteen kilometers without stopping for her) were outranked by the "real goal" that the girl before us exhibited: "She came in here determined to lose enough weight to look good in a crop top at a musical festival and have fun." According to him, we should be focused on "entertaining [our] boyfriends." He evaded questions, teased patronisingly and was frankly dishonest whenever asked anything about prices - indeed, he showed us a pricing list which didn't match up with the (far lower) costs on the website in order to convince us he was offering us a special student deal (he wasn't, the price he offered exceeded the real regular price). However, if it tells you anything, he was the best staff member that worked there. If I showed up without my membership card, even though they had my picture there on the system, they would refuse to let me come in even if there was no time to go back home before they closed. I was told that the gym rules couldn't be bent as the manager would see and be unhappy, so I asked to talk to the manager and was told he wasn't there (right.). I then asked to speak to the owner, previous Mr. Universe, as I could see he was standing by chatting on his headset phone, but as soon as he got off the phone he raced out of the building so I couldn't confront him. Since that day I have never seen him talk to a member except his particular mates who are all his age. I asked to pay for a new card but the EFTPOS minimum was a whopping 15 dollars so I just went home. They deliberately withheld water from you except for a tiny tap in the corner of the women's changeroom in order to charge you exorbitant amounts for bottled water. My friend was not permitted instructions or repetition lists from her free personal training sessions unless she signed up for regular training (more moneygrabbing). The Zumba class that I was late to because the guy at the counter wouldn't let me get down to the dinghy dungeon in which it is held until I'd told him all about whether I was planning on renewing was sort of comical, but ultimately disappointing as the CD player kept stuffing up and the instructor at the front forgot several moves which she had apparently memorised rather than showing us a tape (well, there was no projector, so I don't know how that would have worked). I remember lamenting my situation in embarrassment as we were led in the Gandam Style dance to excess (though the four other women seemed to enjoy that). The instructor was nice and well-meaning but I wasn't happy with the class which was compounded by the fact that I had to travel up three or four flights of stairs to access the women's bathroom and fill up my bottle.
All they want is your money!
Like others have said all they want is your money. They don't even have a water fountain you can use and the staff have been told not to fill members bottles with the tap behind the counter. You have to pay for it!
Also on the day a payment was due they rang my emergency contact looking for the money when they couldn't get in contact with me. Needless to say she got the shock of her life thinking something had happened to me!
The equipment is old and outdated. Nearly everything could benefit from a bit of oil but that would be too expensive. I don't think any of the equipment is less than 10 years old either.
Save your money folks. This gym is terrible.
It's open till 111pm
Everything Else
Terrible
Not a great experience. The initial consultation was good, with a package including 5 sessions personal training and whatnot. Unfortunately, after I signed up they tell me that I can only use these on a Saturday morning - something I can't commit to as I have to work every Saturday morning. They were unwilling to give me one hour outside of a Saturday morning! Absolutely ridiculous. How can I even come in without knowing how to use what?
Location was handy
Everything. They have air con, just decide not to use it. Stuck on a 1 year contract. Problems with personal training!
Terrible
Overall not that good as expected, my advice to all you ladies join a yoga class much simpler thats what i am doing now which is much better than gym and also revitalises your body and makes u feel good.
Well in one word ( Over rated ) i must say for broadway gym
Lots of gyms over a widespread area.
To start with the building is a relic not just a building, and the staff as much as they look friendly they're not they just want you to take a long contract so that they can get a bonus . Not much a fitness expert but a more of a stock broker a...

Good gym to be with
I joined Broadway Gym in June 2010 and I've been with them since then. It has three levels, first level for group exercises, second floor for machines and top floor for free weights. They are open 6am to 11pm and on the weekend so I can hit the gym any time I feel like.
The staff are friendly and nice. The membership is not bad comparing to Fitness First and other gyms, especially if you buy a long term membership ( I think I paid $350 for 6 months)
There is no trainer in the gym unless you hire a personal trainer
Reasonable price, good availability, good environment and equipment and friendly staff
The gym has to much of obligation
