dark rye

published

I prepared a salad sandwich with burgen rye and the sandwich fell apart .Avoid

Purchased in November 2021 for A$6.00.

Not what it used to be.

published

I used to LOVE the Burgen's Rye bread, now it has more wheat than rye, and isn't the dense, flavourful, dark rye bread it once was.
I will never buy this product again unless they resume the old recipe; I used to buy the older one regularly but haven't been able to eat this since the recipe changed.

Falling apart

published

We really love this bread, but the last three time we have bought it its falling apart in the bag - really expensive for broken bread. No way of giving the company feedback which is rubbish as well

Purchased in September 2021 at Woolies for A$5.00.

Disappointing

published

Burgen rye was a beautiful, tasty, wholesome rye bread. The newer product has a larger slice and lighter taste and texture but it doesn’t make up for the quality that was in the original. I’d pay extra for the original rye bread... won’t buy this one again.

Purchased in February 2021 at Woolworths.

Qualiy of rye bread has sadly deteriorated

published

Have been buying this bread for years because of its quality and taste. However in recent months it has deteriorated to the point of holes in the slices and almost falling apart as it's so thin. What has happened to it? It's the most expensive bread in the supermarket which I was happy to pay because of the quality, but unless it improves from current standard I'll change brands.. .

Healthy AND Tasty!

published

While on the CSIRO Healthy Living plan i was introduced to Burgen Rye Bread. LOVE IT! Low GI. Great taste! Not too many seeds (not a fan of too many grains) fills you up and keeps you full. Freezes well. In fact I now freeze every loaf and take out what I need. Toasts well from frozen. Friends and family also love it. Keeps you regular. Nothing but good healthy positives here! Try it! You'll love it!

Burgen Rye now has canola oil. Why? We will not be buying it again.
It has a sour taste now

Crap bread now used to be good

published

What happened you totally screwed this bread up, it used to be really nice now its just crap house. I wouldn't feed it the neighbor's dog and I cant stand the little fool. Bring back the original recipe, the kernel doesn't change his recipe because it works so why the hell did you change yours, dumb.

What has happened to the product I used to love?

published

Burgen's Rye has changed. It tastes stale and is full of seeds which get caught the teeth. I used to love Burgens at first after it took over from my beloved Vogels but like all good things which come to an end it has deteriorated to such an extent that I cannot spend that money any more on an inferior product. Why does all the bread have to contain seeds? There used to be a plain wholemeal but even that has disappeared.

Shocking

published

This bread tastes horrible! It has that "stale " flavour or no flavour at all! Guys seriously, why? It used to be a favourite bread in our family.

No Longer Digestive Balance, the recipe has changed, prior to 2016 this bread was fantastic and love

published

Yep I really loved this bread and was prepared to pay for the no upset tummy effect of the old recipe. The change was noted immediately, the taste is not as good and bloating is back. I noted some others commenting on increased GI to 53? Not smart marketing to change a healthful and much loved recipe! I will buy locally made bread from now on. My families health is worth the effort...
Thanks

Easier on your tummy.

published

Good source of fiber, good taste.
Great for those thinking of cutting down on wheat, less bloating.
I find it easier to digest and so does my mum and she's 95 years old.

Burgen GI index risen

published

Burgen Bread was typically purchased for people wishing to control their weight or diabetes or both...particularly their Soy and Linseed loaf. Unfortunately the company has now mad changes to the GI index and all loaves now have a GI index of over 50, which makes them unsuitable for weight control and diabetes. Goodbye Burgen.

Used to love it but not now it has changed

published

Used to be a solid bread with a good taste now is full of air holes held together by a glue like texture! Yuk ! Not my idea of a healthy bread. Bring back the original recipe and keep your customers please.

BÜRGEN another cheapo that sold their integrity for greed

published

For many years l bought your bread because it had weight, good ingredients and was a decent sized loaf. Now we can all see that bürgen has also jumped onto the cheap band wagon employing cost reduction techniques: smaller, air weight bread, & it now obviously tastes for the worse. You just reduced something else- Your customer. I am no longer buying your products. I found a small bakery that does handmade german bread in Sydney. Have fun employing someone who can try to bring back your customers.

Very good

published

It enjoy eating it by itself. It has an unusual but great taste. Other prepackaged breads are inferior to Burgen at least according to me.

Diminishing value

published

Burgen Rye is not what it was. Why resort to producing smaller and smaller loaves of bread to save a few cents? Yes, we have noticed what you are doing! The consumer has already elected to pay more for what once was a premium product - this is a buyer more sensitive to quality/value than price. It appears that the recipe has been changed and the size of the loaf has been changed for the worse.

Why change the basic successful recipe?

published

Have been a burgen rye fan for over 7 years! Was disappointed to purchase a loaf recently that smelled perfumed with a a stong unpleasant 'rye' smell and the useual robust texture of the bread was light, fluffy and with very few seeds... Your customers have noticed the quality has slipped...a lot! Mr or Ms Burgen it's over to you....what will you do now?
