Where can I buy a cigarette lead for my Bushman (12 volt)? The first one lasted for years but the second one has only lasted about a year.

Hi Lionel, Best bet would be through DP Refrigeration in Victoria...otherwise try 12 Volt Technology in Qld....Both excellent to deal with.

Hi Jim,
We think you may be a bit confused regards the Bushman XD70 and Bushman SC35/52. The XD70 is an Absorption refrigeration system designed to operate on Gas, 240V or 12V and basically not designed to operate as a travelling fridge. This unit uses a 150Watt 12V heating element so current draw is 150/12 = 12.5Amp.
This style of absorption refrigeration system is best used for extended camping trips, cooled down on 240V and when arrive at site swap over to gas. This style of system needs to be level to operate efficiently as the system operates on a gravity return system.
The Bushman 4x4 SC35/52 is a compressor operated system using a mere 2.4Amp when operating and designed specifically for mobile use and operated on angles up to 30 degrees. Both products have their own applications so you must work out what you are going to use the product before you make a decision.

I had problems initally and was told the distance from the battery to the DCplug was to long and to rewire that line using 5mm cable ! Auto Electrian didn't believe me and rang them himself to check ! Fixed the problem, but still cuts out after about 8 hours !

Darryl,
Sounds very much like it is hitting low current cut out when trying to start. If you can get hold of a multi meter then check the voltage at the inlet plug to the fridge. You will need to expose the wire in a couple of spots. Check voltage with fridge off then check voltage as soon as the fridge is turned on and kicks in.
If the voltage drops to about about 11V or under then it will be hitting the low current cut out. If there is a problem with wiring, plug etc then this will be confirmed by the drop in voltage when starting. Question. Have you tried it on the 240V adaptor and if so what happens. If you still have no success then give head office a call.

Laurie,

Sounds like battery, fridge will run on normal 100A/h batt for at least 3 days. Head office will sort it.

I have a very similar problem. Fridge once plugged into 12v does not turn the motor over. There is power there but won't run. Iv had a new control panel fitted but did not make any difference.
The fridge sits in the shed running on 240v now. Very frustrating!!!!
Any help would be awesome.

Is it a pain having to take the top baskets out to access the bottom one's all the time?

Looking to purchase one and this seems the only drawback, rather than having separate compartments side by side.

I understand your reasoning and where you are coming from.
All portable 12v compressor fridges are compromise in their design, it will boil down to what you want and the product that will tick all the boxes for you.
I bought the "Bushman" ...low current draw, quick cooling, good at maintaining existing cold temperatures, highly portable, rugged construction, reliable, good value for money and good backup with spares if needed.
Sorry, but the baskets did not even come into my equation when I was doing my research.
So far after 7 years, initial cost...$988.00 all inclusive, multiple camping journeys in the back of a VR Commodore ute and Pajero, plus being used as a low voltage 2nd house drinks fridge, it has not missed a beat.
I really can't complain.

Hi Brett
No, in fact we prefer it to having all the stuff stacked on top of its self. If you need something from lower down you lift out the whole top stuff rather than half unpack all the bits onto the tailgate.[ The basket leaves space at the side for tall bottles.] I believe the new Bushmans come standard with the Hi lid as well now and 2 seperate depths of baskets which would be even better.
Good travels Rit

Do you have one that has a moveable section inside?

No, there is no movable sections inside the fridge compartment, there are the 3 baskets that you get with the fridge. Check out their website, http://www.bushman.com.au... it has info on how to pack the fridge etc...
There are other brands on the market, Evercool is one such fridge that come to mind. I am led to believe that Engel and Waco may have such a section, but this is with their larger fridges.
