Hi, Am going on a Celebrity Cruise and am trying to find out how much drinks cost in the buffet restaurant. Don't really want to spend $49 pp per day on a drinks package. Just the idea of a house bottle of wine would be great to know. Thank you.

Hi Kerri,
Sorry I cannot remember the wine prices because we only drank beer or cider onboard.
From memory, the prices were the same for drinks at all the different bars around the ship.
We never purchased a package but there was also available a 5 drink price, which was around a 20% discount off the individual price. ( really a quantity discount)
This was not advertised, so suggest you ask about it, good luck with your cruise.

Kerri allow $9 a glass or about $40 a bottle and beware of the extra 20% they will add on

You will need to check this out with your particular cruise provider but we were allowed to bring one bottle of wine for use in the cabin only.
Hope this helps.

Going by Robinit review there isn’t: No ironing facilities in room due to safety I understand but why not a fireproofed laundry room to iron clothes. To have all my clothes pressed by the laundry service would have cost me at least $200 US!! Once again thanks to a mandatory 50% surcharge!!!!!

Dianne B.
Dianne B.

If we’re going more than a week we’ll only go on ships that have a laundry and ironing facility, not having this facility is a way they can charge there passengers more money, so as I said we only use cruise lines that have these facilities also I don’t like the idea of someone doing my washing I’m very fussy. And no I didn’t get a reply.

When gratuities are pre paid, how are you identified so you do not have to them?

1 answer

Hi Alan,
Being an Aussie, we never pay gratuities, whether pre-paid or at the end of the cruise. We immediately on arrival go to the Desk and inform them not to take gratuities off our bill. We will pay to those we choose to i.e. the cabin steward, the waiter, the wine steward. Australians are renown for not paying gratuities and the cruise ships know this.

Celebrity Solstice

We're thinking taking our kids on the Celebrity Solstice during the school holidays (aged 12 and 15). Is this a good ship to take the kids on? What activities are there for the kids to do? Other than the price, is it worth booking a Guaranteed balcony room or a Guaranteed Concierge verandah?

1 answer
Vicki A

Hi, I don't know that I am really the right person to answer this question with my children being in their late 20's. It is a beautiful ship, but does not have all of the teenager activities that are perhaps offered on Royal Caribbean, eg water slides, rock climbing etc.
As for guaranteed cabins, our preference is for a high floor balcony mid ship.

On my cruise it was a free promotion at time of purchase of cruise purchase, but from memory, they were promoting the packages when we went on board the ship.

Hi there :) . Im hoping someone can guide me in the right direction please? I have only cruised once (with p and o ) Now my elderly Mum would like me to take her on a three night cruise. She has never cruised before. It wasnt my favourite holiday I must admit, but I would very much like her to enjoy herself as its something shes always wanted to try. Also, are there any companies where more is included? I found that doing anything extra on p and o to be quite expensive :) . Many thanks in advance

I am a good supporter of Azamara Club Cruises. All drinks are included in the price, No children's activities therefor no kids or families with young children, quite small ships with everything easily accessible, no formal nights, open dining hours etc. They also go into some ports that larger ships cannot go to. Prices are good value but they typically do cruises for 7 nights plus which is not as per your 3 night requirement but I think you would enjoy a longer cruise that are a bit more expensive. Probably next would be Celebrity Cruises (part of the same company as Azamara), then Princess. I think the Queen Mary 2 has a 5 night ex-Sydney return to Sydney in February 2017

Hope to book a cruise with Celebrity early 2017. Is it true they have no laundry and iron for passenger use on board? Also I've been told there is an 18 % service charge on all drinks purchased and that would be in US dollars not A$.

Hi
I am actually going on my first cruise with Celebrity in January 2017 but I have cruised with other cruise lines. Most ships including the Celebrity ships don's have a self service laundry and I don't thing any provide irons for fire and electrical safety reasons. They have laundry, dry cleaning, pressing service on board whish is pretty inexpensive compared to Australian prices.

With the exception of a small few cruise lines (eg Azamara) you either purchase a drinks package (price for service charge is included) or pay with your onboard account where in most cases a tip is included.

From Celebrity's web site ( http://www.celebritycruises.com/frequently-asked-questions#faq5993 )

"For your convenience, we automatically add gratuities for your restaurant and stateroom services to your onboard SeaPass® account on a daily basis in the following amounts, which may be adjusted at your discretion:
$12.95 per person, per day in standard accommodations ($13.50 for cruises departing on or after July 1, 2016)
$13.45 per person, per day in Concierge Class and AquaClass® staterooms ($14.00 for cruises departing on or after July 1, 2016)
$16.45 per person, per day in suites ($17.00 for cruises departing on or after July 1, 2016)
This gratuity is shared by your stateroom attendant, dining services staff, and housekeeping staff members who help enhance your vacation experience. At your discretion, the gratuity payments may be adjusted onboard at Guest Relations, in which case they will not automatically be added to your onboard SeaPass® account. An 18% gratuity will be automatically added to all beverages, mini bar purchases, spa and salon services. Additional gratuities may be added at your discretion:

I hope you enjoy the cruise

Is there any price difference or option of buying a drinks package a few days in to your cruise? For example, I'm cruising for 12 days and thought I'd take the allowed 2 bottles of wine and possibly only want a drink package from day 4. Can I buy the last 8 days only?

2 answers
Michael

Hi. As with all these things it is cheaper to book prior to the cruise. I'm not sure of what the price changes are (they have recently changed and my wife is the expert :) but it is a few dollars cheaper per day to book prior to the cruise. Also, you only have 3 days after sailing (from memory) to book a drink package. Just keep in mind that, while you would be unlikely to drink the value of a drink package at home, on the cruise you have the option to sip drinks throughout the day. We are not heavy drinkers but on a cruise it wouldn't be over the top for us to have a coffee in the morning, a bottle of water to carry with us, a morning cocktail (about 11.30 am ish), a wine with lunch, another afternoon coffee, a beer in the mid-afternoon, 2 champagnes before dinner and wine with dinner. That would add up to the value of a Premuim Drink Package and we haven't attended and night activities or bars yet. So we tend to be miles ahead but it really is each to their own :).

Hi, to tell you the truth not certain, they are pushing it on the ship all the time so there is a possibility they may well do it. We initially were going to buy the drink package, but it was going to work out to be $70 each per day and as i am not a drinker decided not to we than though well we would go wiht the premium non-alcholic one that worked out to be like $25 per day each when added up over the 12 nights was still a lot and they wanted that money paid upfront before we cruise. When you board they have stands set up to greet you and secure packages and dinner bookings so I am sure they will be able to assist. Depends on whether your a big drinker or not :) enjoy your cruise its a beautiful ship.
