You can't buy any genuine replacement parts for the aldi 6 burner bbq which sucks (as far as I know). My drip tray developed rust holes so I patched it up with some galvanised sheet metal and silicone. I use foil under the burners now which stops the tray spoiling and pretty easy to replace once the drips get a bit too extreme.

The auto ignition is dodgy for this side burner. Use a long handled lighter instead.

its very confusing to assemble coolabah 6 burner bbq as some the instructions are not so clear. Any assembling video would be really helpful.

Also I couldn't find the cover for this 6 burner BBQ in ALDI, where can I find it.

My tip, replace all the nuts and bolts with stainless ones as they will rust and tarnish within two years (unless they are now supplied as stainless).

On the six burner, do you have to use the flame tamers?

If you mean the 'heat shields' then yes. The ones in our 6-burner suck most of the heat away from the grill plates so they are total energy wasters! Dumb design imo and you have to cook on high every time especially when trying to get a char-grill effect. It does cook, but far less efficiently than say the Webber Q.

Yes, if you get a licensed gas fitter to change the nozzles. But not as it is! These BBQ's are made for Bottled gas (LPG) and the pressure rating is different.

Six Burner BBQ

I bought Coolabah 6 burner 2 months ago. Used many times and heat distribution is really uneven (sausages above burner covers hardly cook!). No-one else here has complained of same problem so I'm wondering if somehow mine is faulty.

Does anyone else have an issue with bad heat distribution? Or can anyone advise on ways to resolve the issue?

Thanks

If you cook on the hot plate you do not many issues if you keep your eye on the snags and turn 1/4 regularly. If you place them on the grills the best place is over the burner shield emediately left or right of the hot plate, depending on where you have located the hot plate. Make sure that you do not have the burner shields on the burners under the hot plate.

Kinitially start off high flame to seal the snags and the drop it down to just 1/3 above the lowest setting. Again, keep an eye on anything on the grill near the hot plate. That will be the hottest part of the grills.

With chicken or any low fat snags, cook turning regularly and when starting to go carameley brown take the off the grill and place on the warming rack above the cooking area.

I found that it is also a good way to cook kangaroo. Singe/brown all surfaces until meat is cooked about 1/8 to 1/4 inch depth, depending on the thickness and then place on warming rack. Let it sit there for about 5 to 10 mins while doing things like mushrooms and onions.

Next time ALDI does camping stuff (technical term), pick up a couple of the hot plates. They are aluminium so they do not hold heat and get hot spots directly above the flames. If you can get cast iron - they better. When I first started the food was either raw or burnt. Getting better each time. Enjoy

Thanks Big Red. So basically it's just a manage what is there. I will definitely take the shields off below the plate!! (last bbq didn't have shields) :-)

I agree the six burner bbq from Aldi (ours is the 2016 model) doesn't get the grill plates smoking hot unless you turn on most of the burners on max and waste all your gas. The heat shields take away most of the heat meaning char-grilling is less efficient and takes ages. I reckon a narrower heat shield would fix the issue? We always have to cook meat on the highest setting otherwise it won't char. The grill plate is awesome - but then that doesn't use those heat shields... I am in the process of buying narrower heat shields (current ones are 10cm wide) hoping that gives me a better heat distribution.

As I understand it, they are exclusively sold by ALDI. You will have to contact them or keep a close eye on their cataloges.

Another Q - is the fat drain tray front accessible or rear accessible - hard to tell from the Aldi packaging?

1 answer

Big Red

It is access from the rear of the BBQ.

There is an issue with that, or some reason the designers felt that not all of the wheels are the castor type. It has wheels that restrict the movement to only side to side. If you have it up against a wall, you have to drag it away from away from the wall, causing flat spots on the fixed wheels.

They should all be caster type. You can change them by buy a set similar, but now you have a not so lite BBQ to tip over or jack up to do the caster swap

Are the flat plates for the 4 and 6 burner Coolabah (Aldi) BBQ's reversible - flat one side and lined on the other?

2 answers

Big Red

Good question Spider. Had to have a look.

The plates are cast iron, so not flimsy aluminium. Holds the heat well. One side is flat and the other side is 1/2 ribbed like a griddle and the 1/2 of the same side is plain. The plates are not square, the longest sides are across from front to rear of the BBQ. The ribbed area covers all of the short side, and half of the long sides.

There is a minor issue if you keep the warming rack in place. The rack tends to get in the way when cooking on the part of the hot plate under the wrack. Not insurmountable, just an irritation.
