Let down
I have been on the Vasco Da Gama twice now n the past 2 weeks and the Windows are very dirty can hardly see out of them, they desperately need a wash like other cruise liners do so you can see out of them, I found the food is average my tenderloin steak was very chewy not enjoyable, entertainment needs a bit of a lift to gain enjoyment.

First cruise.
There were 10 of us boarding from Adelaide for a 2 nights new years eve cruise. This was my first cruise and i can assure you would not go or recommend this company. Boat very old and tired looking. The food first night was amazing service excellent. After that everything went downhill from there. We had breakfast next morning some of the food was edible others not. Nothing was hot either warm or cold. Our lunch was horrible one of our group left the table after no service for at least 20mins. The only decent thing was dessert and bread and but...Read more
ter roll. New year's day they put on a bbq on deck 10 & 11. Only problem was the salads were out sitting in sun for an hour!!. The meat didn't look safe so none of us ate we didn't want to get sick. Ate in buffet only hot thing was soup. The rooms have only 1 powerpoint so we had 2 phones and ipad to charge no chance of charging them all. The day of disembarking was a joke we were told to go to level 8 when we got there no staff to say go down to level 6. The atmosphere when we got down to 6 was chaotic not happy people. Badly organised. The only good part was new years eve band excellent. Hard to get drinks told run out of glasses for cocktails really!!!!. Also felt some of the staff's attitudes and customer service was very poor. Why was I charged for 2 days of gratuities when we were only in Australian waters not very happy. I feel this company needs to improve on food customer service and update ship more. Very old. Never again.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Expectations
I have just completed a cruise on the Vascoe De Gama traveling from Adelaide to Tasmania, (hobart and burnie) Phillip Island, Melb, Portland back to Adelaide .10 days of boredom,The ship having been partly refurnished smelt of paint in a lot of areas, my cabin for two of us was reasonable but old, bathroom was ok except it had a bath (very difficult for a person with hip and knee replacements) to get in and out off, the towels were very scratchy and not snow white, there was no fridge in cabin either. Now the FOOD ! what a disgrace, tasteless, ...Read more
lukewarm and only a very small choice of variety, i found breakfast was the best meal bacon, eggs, baked beans was all fresh not reheated. The Waterfront restaurant was nice but came away hungry, Xmas Day was excellent, They excelled in every way. Daily activities, what a disgrace the staff were not even interested in what they were doing, except for the bingo girl, she at least gave us a laugh. The cabin crew and majority of the very hard working staff were amazing and even could sometimes not understand they always had a smile. NOW !! the biggest let down was the Night Entertainment, if that is what you can call it !!! 30 mins twice a night for a show that was so bad, the dancers were good but the choreography for them did not fit the actual show the singers stood like they were robots,no new artist came on board to entertain which was expected, i have cruised with Royal Carribean, Princess Line, PO,this was our first time on this line, and will definitely not sail on it again, thank you Vascoe De Gama for a waste of my hard earned moneySimilar opinion? Be warned, medical cost RIPOFF
We just completed a cruise on CMV (Vasco da Gama) from Sydney to Adelaide. Ship was old and had been partially refurbished (nor the furniture in our cabin).
Ship was reasonable size and did not have hoards of children on board.
Food basically OK, customer service only reasonable and not always honest, staff friendly and hardworking, value for money OK....
BUT the real sting is for medical care on board. An acquaintance got food poisoning on board and was in the medical centre for 2 days. Was hit with a bill for over $5000!!!! $2000 was for a s...Read more
hort "consultation!!! This is not an exaggeration, he showed me his ship's account. He is not sure if his travel insurance will cover it. Coming into Adelaide, the ship broke down and we drifted around for several hours, no lights, no A/C, no showers or toilets, no apology. Our 2nd trip with this company, won't be a 3rd.

Appalling customer care
My parents were on their second Astor cruise sailing from the UK to Fremantle last year, when my father became seriously ill. Medical staff on board the ship were not able to diagnose pneumonia and therefore did not treat my Dad with antibiotics. As his condition deteriorated a decision was made to offload my parents in a country far from home for hospital treatment. Fortunately, my father made a full recovery after being correctly diagnosed and treated in that hospital. But it was a traumatic experience and distressing time for my family. My p...Read more
arents were left, with no means of communication and a long way from home. The Cruise & Maritime Voyages staff did not even contact my parents nominated emergency contact person in Australia or notify any of our family of their whereabouts. The company’s policy does not include notifying family in the case of a medical disembarkation. For the lack of care shown my parents I would never recommend cruising with this company.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Needs Some Refinement
This Ship is a small 500 to 600 passengers, so dont expect mega-liner inside, its comfortable and clean,no casino only deck games, pool and bars and small entertainment lounge, no laundry for passengers to use but there is a ironing room if you can wash your cloths in you r bathroom sink. We have just done a half world cruise on her, its our second time doing the half world cruise this time west bound. Food was much better than last time we were on board and chef was ok but not super great it was i would say about 3 star, The entertainment was ...Read more
below average i am sorry to say,, they had 3 very good girl singers and 3 Guys with soft voices all except 1 girl were frequently drowned out by a over enthusiastic Clarinet playing band leader who always had a microphone stuck up the end every instrument he played, The assistant Cruise Director would have been a better Director than the guy employed as Director who we very seldom seen around the ship apart from some small part in the sail a ways on deck he did not mix with passengers much, not like the one before on the first Cruise. The Main problem we had was on Hans Bar Deck, the starboard side was a small smoking area with ash trays, but for some reason most of the German smokers {because it was a German Ship] thought they were entitled to pick up a ash tray and sit any were on the Deck, we had often to get the bar manager to move the back to the smoking area, C.M.V. need to get a grip on this as i now be leave it is owned by C.M.V. The deck entertainment was way to loud for a average age of 74 we were not deaf and did not like our insides vibrated by super loud bass speakers just above the seating area on port side of Hans Bar, thats about it we dont think we will be back on The Astor. One very good point was Great Bar staff George Puto and Twins Natalie and Dasha to name just a few, all the Hotel and Bar Staff were Top Class Pity about Entertainment.Similar opinion?
