Sydney to LA flight - Delta/virgin Australia
Just been to LA from sydney on a virgin australia/delta flight in Jan 2013. Honestly, was a bit anxious when i started hearing/reading reviews about delta so i had expected for the worst. Our group of six were on a tight budget and Delta's price to america were reasonable and affordable to us. Once we boarded our flight to LA, there was no problem. Everything moved like clockwork. Our domestic flights to Vegas and San francisco were also covered by Delta and I have all the praises for them. Being a first timer to the USA, they helped me with t...Read more
he boarding procedures and for help with our domestic flights. The ground staff were very polite and helpful in LAX, Vegas and San Francisco. We were transient passengers from San Francisco to LAX and then Sydney. Delta arranged our shuttle transfer from Terminal 5 to Terminal 3 in LAX for our return flight to sydney. By doing this, we skipped going through security again in Terminal 3. We had plenty of time before our flight to Sydney left LAX. Our luggages were also transferred automatially to our return flight home. Delta flights were all located in one terminal at LAX. We just change gates during our domestic flights. Luggage allowance was only 23kgs per passenger. Would have wanted more. Of course, you can always pay for the additional luggage but most airlines do allow two luggages per person. Airplanes during domestic flights are small and cramped.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Will never recommend Delta and Virgin to anyone
It was my first trip from Sydney to Los Angeles. I travelled on Delta and Virgin Australia in November 2012. After this trip, I said to everyone I met that I will never recommend these two airlines to anyone. I was recommended to these airlines by a travel agent.
It was a bad choice because of the terrible services provided by these airlines. When I was in L.A, I contacted Delta on the phone to order a vegetarian meal and to pre-purchase 2 extra baggages for my return trip to Syd on the next day. For peace of mind and to pay a lower fee, I ...Read more
always make sure I prepay for any extra checked bags online or over the phone than at the airport. Delta consultant gave me a phone number and asked me to call Virgin Australia directly. When I rang that number, it was through to United Airways. I went online to look up the phone number and finally got through to Virgin Australia consultant. I was then told to call Delta because my ticket was issued with the code DL. I told them that I just wanted to order the vegetarian meal and prepay for 2 extra baggages for my return trip. Virgin said my request for vegetarian meal has been entered on the system but insisted I check with Delta regarding the fee for the excess baggages. I then rang Delta again and was told that because my next flight was with Virgin therefore Delta could not take the payment for the excess baggages. I had spent more than an hour calling around to tell them I wanted to prepay for 2 excess baggages. Anyway, none of them seem to care. I told them that I was very dissatisfied with their service. I then repacked everything and finally managed to have only 1 extra luggage. When I got to the airport, Virgin Ground crew was a joke. I was told to put my carry-on bag on the scale first which weighted 8.10kg. I was told to take 1kg out and put it in my backpack. As for the excess checked bag, I paid USD75 for it. It was their bad customer service on the phone which made me decided to have only 1 extra checked bag instead of 2. Otherwise, I would have paid $150. Thanks to their bad service which saved me some money. I have left a few things behind in L.A which I can collect on my next trip. Anyway, when I got through the security check point, I removed that 1kg from my backpack and put it back in the carry-on bag. What a hassle. I will choose other airlines but not Delta and Virgin Australia for my next trip to America. Bad customer service.

ugh I knew better and still allowed Delta to do it to me again!
Had to book a last minute flight from California to Managua Nicaragua (mom fell down and hurt herself big time). Thought I'd be able to get out of here in 5 days, but she's in pretty bad shape. SO....had to rebook (do you know where this is headed?) and asked, given the circumstances:
- if they would wave the $150 change fee. Provided all the info, but then OH NO its international, you have to pay the fee and then later show the airport a Doctor's certificate, etc if you wan...Read more

This was a long travel
I was traveling with Delta Airlines from Los Angeles to Sydney International Flight. We all passengers boarded the plane, announcement was done that entertainment system is broken down and we are trying to fix it, apologies for any inconvenience, and guess what people, it didn't work at all so we traveled for 14 hours with no entertainment, no music no movies, just sleeping and drinking Juice and beer lol. Thank god it was a night flight so had chance to sleep. I don't mind traveling with Delta again as long as thir systems are working. All systems including engines..haha

Never Fly with this Airline
My Wife and I just completed a great trip to Canada and the USA but the trip was unfortunately soured by our problems with Delta Airways and Virgin Australia.
I live in Australia and in years past I have been a member of the Ansett Golden wing club as a frequent flyer until they folded, I am still a Qantas frequent flyer and member of the Qantas club. I am also a frequent flyer with Emirates airlines. I have flown at least twice a month on business for many years and never experienced incompetence like we had to address in the USA.

Do not go near this airline!
I have not flown with this airline and have not even stepped on board the plane. Dealing with this airline has been such a terrible experience to date. "Terrible" is such a nice word to describe the experience so far. My e-ticket was purchased and issued months in advance for my travel in Aug 2012. I received an email in early July from the travel agent that the airline changed the original itinerary/return flight from Sydney to San Diego. Though, they gave me the alternative flights for the the days that I wanted, the times were inconvenient t...Read more
o the family event I was attending. I am flying out in 6 days and still have NOT received the new e-ticket confirming the revised flight details. It is very stressful not knowing if I'm even going to fly out of Sydney and my family had to make changes to the scheduled event to accommodate my arrival. Why is the airline not initiating compensation for the weeks and hours I've been placed on hold trying to just obtain my confirmed e-ticket! What a pain!!! Non existent prompt customer service and communication.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Good
I flew Sydney to LA and back again on Delta, both ways the service was great both with drinks and food. At check in the staff were more then willing to help with a seating issue caused by my travel agent (I was traveling with someone and according to our booking we weren't seated together). A good range of movies and other content to watch while flying. A fair ammount of leg room which made falling asleep possible. Left on time if not a bit early and landing was on time also.
Friendly staff, acceptable food, comfortable seats, screens in the back of the headrest.
At one point on both flights the entertainment system crashed, but they were able to fix it.

Pay a little more
Delta airlines offers many incentives such as Sky Miles, unfortunately this was the incentive for me and I have come to regret it now. Delta Airlines are very non-negotiable and the service stinks. My experience which has not finished yet has been dismal. Some carriers will let a 53 pound bag on because it's close to the 50 pound checked baggage, not Delta, they will make you move things around or tell you to go away and sort it to get it right on the 50 pounds...it's a real pain with a child!
And also they will charge you $25.00 for your firs...Read more

i had decent service (for the US at least) - friendly and helpful on board staff (though check-in staff could have used a little motivation) and remember - in the USA, if you're doing curb-side-check-in - unless you want your bags sent to a different location than yourself, remember to tip!
great smaller airline which is growing rapidly and certainly has some great value rates if you book at the right times or through the right people! We used these guys to get from LA to Vegas and the flight was fast, hassle free and i even found the hostesses...Read more

Terrible
On 1/22/11 we were having our newest family member, a kitten we named Snickers shipped to us from Utah. We paid for her to be in a climate controlled cargo & even paid an extra $70 for an expedited service called Delta Dash which should have meant she was the first thing off or on the plane. When we got to the airport, we waited, her flight came in at 8:40, they didn't bring her out to us until 9:30. (50 minutes after the plane landed) She was cold, pale, limp & unresponsive & had blood coming from her nose & mouth. My family rushed her to the ...Read more
emergency vet, but on the drive, she passed. The vet pronounced her DOA, she died from extreme hypothermia, she froze to death. Apparently, what we thought was a warm cargo bin, wasn't. When a plane lands, climate control is lost & she didn't stand a chance for 50 minutes in their cargo hold. If for any reason there is a holdup on the tarmac, our animals are trapped, unable to escape the extreme cold or extreme heat in the summer. Our family is devastated & Delta's response has been disgusting. They valued her life at 50 cents per pound. They valued LIFE at 50 cents per pound.Similar opinion? Do Not Fly with them
I went over to america and flew 5 times with them while over there.
They over book every flight. Both flights from Australia to LA we sat on the plane for 1.5 hours before take off at sydney and 4 hours before take off at LA, because they over booked the international plane and had to get the peoples baggage off who couldn't fly.
The service is so bad and they bight your head off and are extreamlyrude if you ask them something.

to use the toilet they told you to wait in your seat till its free. There were only 4 toilets working on the plane. My luggage got lost in Las vagas, I went to Delta and said my bags had not come out and they said they cant help. I got so pissed. So I called them up and after spending hours on hold and being transferred around I get my bags. (4 days later)Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Alright.. Not very organised with seating arrangements.
I flew Delta from Sydney to Los Angeles and the flight attendants were rude. I payed an extra $90 for my 13 year old daughter to sit in the exit row seat with her father, brother and mother (me). The flight attendants did not let her as she was apparently "under-aged!" When I booked the flight my travel agent was on the phone to me as well as the CEO of Delta airlines. He claimed it was more than alright for her to sit in an exit row. My daughter was moved to the seat behind us.
Although when we flew back to Sydney with Delta I booked the s...Read more

They were kind and one of the flight attendants couldn't do enough or us. She acted very professional. I guess it really depends on the flight attendants you get in your flight!! OK
Delta Airlines is a typical US airline. It is safe, reliable, and affordable, but if you have any trouble they can be surly and unhelpful. Because their system is so large and extensive, if you happen to miss a flight they can usually get you on a later flight or to your destination by another routing. It will be good to have them come to Australia as they do have experience as an international carrier and competition is always good!
Extensive route system throughout the USA, good schedules to Europe, and coming to Australia later in the year.
Like most airlines in the USA, the domestic service is spartan unless you want to pay. You probably will have to connect in Atlanta, Cincinnati, or Salt Lake City to get most anywhere in the USA.

I flew Delta a few years ago and they were fantastic. The food was great, the service was efficient and I will always be grateful to them for helping me when I was late to the airport. With the Christmas season and most places snowed in there were an unprecedented number of passengers and the airport was ridiculously crowded. Upon talking to others in a slow moving line, they all agreed there was no way I would make my flight. A Delta attendant nearby overhead and took me to the front of the Delta line. I ran like mad through customs and just made my flight thanks to their attentive service.
Great service, comfortable flight

The staff were very friendly and helpful. Our flight left on time and got to our destination slightly ahead of time which meant more time to have fun. It was easy to book and the food was actually ok, big surprise for airplane food!
It was easy to book our flights, the flights were on time and we actually arrived faster than expected which was great. The staff were friendly.
The seats felt a little more squished or smaller than other airlines, but then I was in a not so great mood for other reasons, so might have just been me.

I had the good fortune to be switched from NorthWest to Delta when they were merging. The pros for Delta are that they do not treat you like cattle and they feed you complimentary food that is actually quite nice. They were on time, courteous, helpful and not at all put out by being asked questions. Also very accommodating of you ask to change seats- I highly recommend Delta and would fly with them again.
great service, on time, friendly staff, free edible food!
Nothing much- seats are small but they weren't any more cramped than toher airlines and less cramped than some.

Hi
I’m flying with delta airlines early next year and I’m flying with virgin airlines first and I’m worried about their checked in luggage allowance saying the measurement is 157cm (L+W+H). I work at a bag store with luggage and majority of our large cases are over that. Are they very strict?
1 answer
My experience with Delta checked luggage is that they are more concerned with weight rather than dimensions. Delta just wants your money per suitcase. Check if Delta and Virgin are booking partners and if all your bookings are through Virgin, then ask Virgin if Delta will cause problems. Do not expect help from Delta staff in USA. They will just 'pass the buck' onto someone else. If you are going to pay for the baggage at each USA airport, then be advised that check in and luggage payment is done at kiosks. You attach kiosk supplied baggage labels to the suitcase, then take the luggage to a counter to hand over for it to be security checked behind the walls and loaded onto planes. As for cabin bags, Americans try to take as much as they can to avoid paying for checked luggage. Some of their carry-on are so big they would not be allowed on Qantas or Virgin. So the overhead lockers get filled up very quickly. If you are not used to the American accent, the call up for the seating can mean that you board as last group and miss out on overhead locker space. Hope you have a better experience than I did earlier this year (2018).
