Terrible odour, months later.
I painted our bedroom months ago and still have a paint odour, gets worse on hotter days. I have tried airing the room etc but it is not clearing.
I always use Dulux paints without any problems, but the odour from ceiling Nevermiss is terrible. will I have to repainted the ceiling to clear the odour?

Don't use - It drys to white but turns back to pink in humidity.
Dulux NeverMiss ceiling paint was easy to apply but we are not happy with it. We started by painting the cornices first two days ago and then would have progressed to the ceiling by today. It did dry to a white but it took longer in the bathroom. Yesterday morning the bathroom was nearly white but after having showers the paint turned a darker pink again. This morning the paint was white and after using the shower it had turned dark pink again.
We had also painted the laundry and hallway cornices. After seeing the paint in the bathroo...Read more
m turning back to pink I tested a patch of the hallway cornices by filling a spray bottle with water and spraying along the cornice. The paint turned from white back to pink!!! The laundry still smells of the paint. We bought plain white water-based ceiling paint to paint over what we painted with the Dulux NeverMiss when it occurred to me that the paintbrush with the new paint would just be washing the Dulux paint off and the new paint would be tinged pink also! We now have the task of washing off as much of the dye out of the Dulux painted cornices as possible and using several coats of primer before we can paint with the other paint. I am hoping in time that the paint smell from the laundry will go away.

the vinegar and it immediately turned the pink water to clear and the paint remained white when I sprayed again with water to see if it would turn pink again. The vinegar also reduced the smell in the laundry. We did this today and will keep monitoring the result over the next couple of days before we continue with the painting with another brand of paint.Similar opinion? Don't use it!! smell
I must say for some one who has used Dulux for years, I am very disappointed. I used this products years ago and loved it- obviously they have changed ingredients or there is an issue with the ingredients. Nasty smell even weeks after. Usually paint smell goes away in a few days-not this time!!
Very disappointed. Won't buy this brand again!

Literally stinks
I bought this from Bunnings who recommended it and painted my sunroom/kitchen ceiling on the 1st/2nd of January 2018. It is now mid-February 2018 and the area still smells terrible. People comment on the smell when they enter. It gets worse in hot weather. Smells sour as though there's a dead animal in the room.

awful smell
We have used this product prior with no problems. This recent experience was far from satisfying. We painted two ceilings and both rooms have an awful smell. The same common denominator is this ceiling paint. After leaving windows open 24 hours a day and spraying countless room sprays and deodorisers both rooms are still putrid and after playing investigator I googled this product and now I know that we are not alone living and breathing this terrible odour daily. It has been 4 weeks and the smell is still here. It is worse when the rooms get h...Read more

The paint stinks and so does the service you get from Dulux
Very loyal Dulux painter. Bought 10 litres of never miss. It was ok. But the next 10 litres. Disgusting smell. Went on-line. Wished I had earlier. Rang Dulux. All I got was denial that there was any problem. Referred them to this website. Reluctant acknowledgment. Then there was the "a consultant will get back to you" but that was a waste of time. Eventually got a message and rang back. "We've been trying to call...". Rubbish. Rarely get missed calls and no message left until five minutes before I rang. Took the paint back to Bunn...Read more
ings. They were great. Still waiting for Dulux to get back to me though and looking forward to what they will do to fix this smell. The rooms unfortunately still smells and I'm worried it might never clear fully. I painted a hallway, a toilet and the laundry with this stuff. On a hot day they all stink and it has been two months. Today went back to Bunnings. The half used 10 litres was still there. The guys opened it up out of curiosity. The smell was very strong, acrid and eye watering. So thanks Dulux. Bought a few hundred dollars of Taubman's paint today.1 comment

Deluxe wash and wear - terrible odour
Purchased Dulux wash and wear low sheen 6 litre tin from Bunnings in November to paint the walls.
No issue with the application of paint.
After a few days a nasty, chemical smell developed in the area painted. It is now a few weeks since the living/dining room was painted and the smell is only now starting to slowly ease off. The area painted can not be used as it is very unpleasant and windows and doors have been opened constantly. The odour could be smelt outside and in other parts of the house.

Dulux Ceiling White Paint - Putrid stench - Product Recalled
I purchased 4 litres of Deluxe Ceiling Paint on 31-Aug-17 from Bunnings and painted the ceiling of a bedroom the next day. No apparent issues whilst I was painting but a couple of days later, there was an awful 'rancid' stench in the room which could only have been the paint. We did a lot of searching on the internet at that time but could find not find anything similar. My wife and I both rang Dulux at the time, and they tried to dismiss it as a normal paint smell despite telling them that I had painted a hundred or so rooms over 40 years a...Read more
nd never had the same stench. Dulux provided some gratuitous advice about leaving windows open etc (as though we hadn't thought of that). We could not use the room. After about 10 weeks, the smell had lessened but we still could not use the room. My wife said I had to repaint the whole room again and so off to Bunnings I went to buy new wall, ceiling and semi-gloss paint as we could not identify which paint was stinking so much. When discussing the issue with the Bunnings guy, he then told me that there had been a product recall about the end of Sep-2017 and they removed all Deluxe paint from their shelves. He said to ring Dulux which I did (20-Nov-2017). Initially, I did not tell the lady that answered the phone that I knew about the recall and just went on to explain about the awful stench from the painting (as I had done initially). After some time of her appearing to be evasive, I then asked her to look up the Dulux internal database for "recall of ceiling paint in the last two months". Her tone then changed and she then started to ask me about batch numbers on the can (I had the can in front of me) and said she would have to go and check. She quickly came back and said that my batch was affected (but not toxic) and that she would arrange for a can of 'shellack' and a new can of ceiling paint that I could pick up from Bunnings (no charge) that day (which I did). I applied the shellack over the ceiling and then two coats of top coat and one day later, it appears to be a normal paint smell but obviously early days. Whilst the lady at Dulux was very polite and very helpful once I was specific about the ceiling paint recall, I had a feeling she was under instructions to be evasive and avoid mentioning the paint recall (evidently some issue re anti-fungal chemicals according to another post on this site). I am very disappointed at Dulux that there was no attempt to put information on their web-site about this issue.2 comments

Bad chemical smell
I painted one of my motel rooms with never miss ceiling paint, it went on well but the smell would not go, actually it got worse it started to smell like chemicals . I put up with it for 4 weeks before I finally could not put up with it any longer, so off to bunnings I go and purchase 2 x 4 litres of dulux smoke and odour blocker and another 10 litres of Dulux ceiling paint, . Well that fixed the problem 7 days went by and guess what the smell was back, ( remember this is my living its a motel room ) So I think to myself I am not pu...Read more

Dulux Ceiling Paint - offensive smell
About 3 months ago we purchased a new tin of Dulux ceiling paint for our small hallway ceiling that leads to our bedroom. Just the normal paint smell for the first week and then we noticed this area really smelt bad. We thought that maybe the cat may have peed in hallway. Anyway we have just painted the ceiling in our bedroom and one week later we cannot sleep in our room due to the horrible offensive smell. Would you like me to send you the batch number of this paint please Dulux?

Terrible smell
The paint has covered well and fairly easy to use but the smell is terrible. Never experienced this before with all our painting over the years. Have had the house open for days and have tried the smell removal tricks of onions, lemon etc but nothing has worked. Hope it disappears soon. Would not use this paint again.

Doesn't spread on application, finish is streaky
Just finished applying the 2nd coat of Ceiling White with hiding power & the result is terrible. It is streaky & when applying we noted how it didn't spread. I have always used Resene Paint & thought Dulux would be of a similar quality, I was mistaken, Resene is far superior. Very disappointed as now will have to purchase another paint and do the entire ceiling & Scotia again.

Rubbish
Don't waste your time, money and effort buying Dulux paint! Purchased the Ceiling White NeverMiss paint approx. 5yrs ago, no issues when applied back then however have had reason to do some touch ups recently and have found that the colour has faded to a light grey, hence patchy, uneven and noticeable colour difference on ceiling. The tin (like all Dulux tins) rusted out about 2 yrs ago so decanted remaining paint into plastic tub. Rang Dulux who informed me nothing can be done without the tin. No attempt was made to provide a reason as to ...Read more

I found this product was very easy to apply and loved the even consistency fantastic paint..but just painted my bedroom ceiling and I'm still waiting for it to dry white..it's now 6 hours later and it's still pink..but I do have a concrete ceiling. Great product
Great product, easy to use. I can't understand the negatives. Sounds like they rolled over the dry areas, I found it came up a treat, and I hate painting. as for the smell, CHECK YOUR UNDERARMS!! I reckon that is where the smell is coming from. The paint doesn't smell anything like the complaints

Used it for YEARS, never a problem.
I've just finished painting a penthouse.
Used 30 litres of Nevermiss, that's how big the place is.
The ceilings are spotless, streak-free, brilliant white and there is no smell whatsoever!!!
The place is lived-in, so I can tell you, if there was a smell, I would have heard about it!
And the cherry on top is: the client is over the moon with the result.
I don't understand all those negative comments. (??!?!?!)
Do you guys really KNOW how to paint??

I trusted Dulux products but no more
I am far from happy with results from this product. It is easy to apply but gives an astonishingly uneven patchy cover that leaves a result that is actually worse than before the painting.
After ruining the ceiling with 3 coats, I then used one coat of Haymes ceiling paint to cover up the mess and to give a perfect result.

Questions & Answers
Terry Yatesasked
I painted our bedroom ceiling with Dulux Ceiling White Never Miss (should be called Never use), as most of the other reviews have noted it gives off a stench which is intolerable, it was so bad my wife and I had to sleep in one of our bedrooms downstairs as it was not possible to sleep with the fumes from the paint.
I have painted with many products for over 60 years in the United Kingdom, South Africa and here in New Zealand, and this is absolutely the worse paint ever manufactured. How Dulux have got away with selling this product is beyond comprehension and they should be sued for damages as a result.

Hi, I’ve recently purchased 10 litres of ceiling white + kitchen and bathroom. I painted my lounge and bedroom and had the most severe allergic reactions, my mouth was burnt and swollen and my eyes extremely puffy and itchy. I thought it was a problem with an old oil heater and have take steps to have it removed. Now 6 weeks later the first two affected rooms have dissipated some and I have used the same paint to do my kitchen. Again the intensely storming bile chemical smells and immense allergic reaction. My house is unlovable and I have literally ripped my house apart trying to find the initial smells. Not good enough dulux. Thins needs to be fixed. After reading reviews it seems it’s a long standing problem. I have severe allergies.
