Used to paint a caravan after it’s cured can it be wet sanded and polished ?
I would say no. Not really that sort of product. The hammer finish is not made to be sanded afterwards so if you are after a smooth finish then look to another paint that is not a hammer finish. Still the hammer finish looks really nice if you have used the product correctly and unlike a smooth paint finish will hide a lot of imperfections.
we went with the smooth finish not the hammer finish just have a small run so was wondering just to fix that

Why is Metal Shield paint called epoxy ?, is there hardener in the mix, I always thought epoxy paints were a 2 pak system.
The difference would be the amount of epoxy in the paint for single stage epoxy vs two stage paint systems. But Dulux would be the best to confirm this point as their products might differ to others. A two part epoxy will be the harder wearing finish though.
Hi Roger
Thank you for reaching out. Dulux Metalshield Epoxy Enamel is a single-pack heavy-duty topcoat. Dulux Metalshield Epoxy Enamel does not require a Part B catalyst. http://www.duspec.com.au/pdfs/datasheets/AU_DD01851.pdfdf

Hi there, I have just sprayed my steel flyscreen door with Dulux metalshield flat black, I’m now thinking it would look better with a shine. Can you tell me if I can go over it with a dulux gloss black?

Hi,
I have been applying Metalshield to my powdered coated door frames that are about 16yrs old. Some of the powder coating has come off so I have craped and sanded the back extensively. I originally applied Metalshield Etch Primer to the bare metal areas and then your Weathersheild semi gloss as advised by one of your shops. The finish was very dull so I went back to them and they recommended I use the Metalshield gloss. I have done this using both a brush and roller trying to get a smooth finish with out any luck. Do you know how I can get a better finish to the final coat.
Regards
Brett
Hey mate, I use metalshield on windows and doors. If you dont have a spray unit you can buy the aerosol spray packs which come up much better than brush and roller.
Id suggest the multipurpose spray or epoxy enamel in either satin or semi gloss finish. A high gloss will show up imperfections, especially if you dont have any experience spraying.
Have a look at the product data sheet for surface preparation as this is the most important part of any paint project.

Can Metalsheild epoxy enamel be used successfully on timber outdoor furniture?
Hi Steve
Thank you for your enquiry. We do not recommend using the Dulux Metalshield Epoxy Enamel on timber as the Dulux Metalshield Epoxy Enamel dries to a very hard rigid finish, whereas timber is a flexible substrate and if the timber were to move in any way the Dulux Metalshield Epoxy Enamel may crack or split.
For outdoor surfaces such as your timber furniture we recommend the Dulux Weathershield, or the Dulux Aquanamel.

How can I paint over this metal shield- it looks more cream than vivid white. Should I use an enamel or aqua enamel in vivid white over it? Will it bond
Hi Amy,
Great question! Being an enamel, Dulux Metalshield Epoxy Enamel can sometimes yellow over time. To recoat, you can give a light sand, then reapply with 2-3 coats of Metalshield Epoxy Enamel again to refresh. You could also change to a water-based paint system that will not yellow over time, although this is a more involved process. We'd love to find out more about your project to give you the best advice on how to do this, so please call our friendly team on 13 25 25 (option 2) so we can get you back on track with the right paints.
We look forward to hearing from you soon!

i have used the Spray pack (obtained from bunnings) Dulux Metalshield Epoxy etch primer and top coated with Dulux epoxy both Saturn and gloss,
the first part of my bare metal (steel) project was painted about 4 weeks ago and the second part prepared and painted this week but both have resulted in the topcoat staying soft and very easily scratches with my finger nail .
about a weeks work has gone in to the preparation before painting and ambient temperature was about 20 degs during the actual painting process .
I choose this paint due to a couple of factors
1/ Dulux brand.
2/ epoxy enamel.
3/ Excellent durability ?
4/ industrial strength .

Hi Bob
Thank you for your enquiry. Do you mind if we ask you a question about your project?
Would you be able to let us know just how long after the application of your final coat did you scratch the surface with your fingernail?
Our products require 7 - 10 days to completely cure, that is, become its hardest as a paint coating. If you scratch the coating before the 10 days you may find that the coating is still soft and damageable.
If it has been longer than the 10 days for curing when you have scratched the surface, may we suggest that you contact our very knowledgeable Dulux Technical Team for further assistance with your project. Dulux Technical Team 13 25 25 Option 2. Regards, The Dulux Team
the first part of my project was around three weeks ago using gloss
with the second around three days ago using satin
Hi Bob
If you tested the surface before the 10 day curing time then the product would still be hardening, and still possibly soft. If you tested the surface after the 10 day curing time and found the surface still soft and easily damaged may we suggest that you contact the Dulux Technical Team for further assistance. I have had the same issue as a few other people have mentioned. I am using the 4 litre tins and a spray gun to paint a boat. I have fully prepped the surface and cleaned it thoroughly using was wax and grease removed. Then fully coated with etch primer and then used the vivid white high gloss epoxy enamel for the top coats. Looks so good when put on fresh but 48 hrs into curing the paint does not look high gloss and it feels chalky. There is no powder coming off on hands when touched but it def8natley feels and looks chalky. How do I prevent this or Would putting a clear coat over the top be best option

I purchased 2 x 4 litres of metal shield in February 2022 for use on pool fence and house gutters. Two years later the paint has discolored and become chalky. Have contacted Help & Advice Team and was advised that this is expected after two years. I was also told I have used the correct product? Has anyone experience this situation using Dulux metalshield ? I am wondering if the marketing for Dulux paint exceeded the quality of their paints?
Paints are like Petrols. They are all basically made up from the same stuff. And yes, some spend millions on advertising, others prefer to let their product do the talking.

Hi Folks, am I required to use a Metalshield Primer after using Metalshield Etch-Primer or is Metalshield Etch-Primer suitable to be painted directly over? Additionally, what types of paint can I NOT use over the top of a Metalshield-Etch-Primer or any Metalshield Primer? Cheers, Mick

I have just bought the megashield epoxy enamel to paint my caravan. Reading the reviews It's needless to say I'm now concerned. We are painting it over a stripped aluminium body. Could you advise the best way to apply the paint to ensure that the paint will set and harden and i can get a good result.

Hi there I’m finding the dulux hammered finish charcoal very fiddley and am finding unless I apply one swift covering without trying to minimise brush marks it gives the result if I try to brush the brush marks out it basically turns to a silver cover without the hammered finish. Any help would be appreciated I’ve done all the prep by the book on an aluminium roof cage
