Dux Airoheat D2FH00000C (page 3 of 5)
- Airoheat · See All
have only had the system I my new house for just 5 years, and already leaking. I have had units half the price before and they have lasted over 10years, still going strong after I left the property. Will see what happens with warranty. Sounds like it should be a recall!!
We replaced it yesterday, best thing we ever did after so many problems.
Looking back I can't believe how much time I wasted worrying & stressing over the hot water or lack of it!!
People shouldn't have to pay that much for a total DUD system.
We did get just over 7 years of cruddy service before it finally gave up on us completely.
It was so nice to fill the sink last night and have steam come off the water.
The electrician set up our new system with a timer so our Solar Panels will heat it during the day.
I can't wait to throw it on the rubbish skip where it belongs :)
Don't buy this unless you want to replace it within 6 years! very dissapointed!
Like most here....inner tank rusted out, leaking hot water from top of tank, not long outside of the warranty period. Installer company charged me $150 to tell it was common fault and I need to buy a new one and a different brand! Called Dux, they just handballed to another local supplier who want to charge $170 to look at it!
Like the stories below, I have a DUX hot water system (Airoheat heat pump) that has failed and no support is being offered by the manufacturer. The unit was purchased in July 2009 at a cost of $4,245 ($5,265 less $1,020 rebate). The unit has rusted from the inside out and has a hole just above the electrics so there is no hot water. I made two phone calls to DUX and both calls yielded the same response from DUX - the unit is out of warranty so they won't cover it. Given the occurrence of similar problems with this product at around the same age, you would think DUX would step up to the plate and do the right thing by their customers. A hot water system that only lasts 5 years and costs over $4,000 is ridiculous. Totally unacceptable!

I purchased one of the airoheat systems after being told they were cheap to run.well, the hws stopped working.rang dux & got told very abruptly that it was out of warranty & not their problem & call a serviceman.ive never seen a hws last just 5yrs,except this one.i will be spreading the word to not only "don't buy an airoheat system but DON'T BUY ANY dux SYSTEM.EVER.it should have been named an 'airhead'.

I bought my Dux Airoheat in August 2009 from SolarPay during the peak of the Renewable Energy Rebate scheme, which paid about $1000 of the $4242 price tag (Interestingly when the rebates ended, prices dropped exactly $1000). With no time for cold showers, I shopped around online and by phone, and with all dealers phones ringing off the hook because of the rebates, deals were scarce and this seemed like the answer. Salesperson assured me this was a great unit, and "it's Aussie made", so like an idiot I bought it. 18 months in the logic board fai...
Read moreled, so I got online discovering some forums, and realised I was one of the lucky ones to get 18 months. Luckily it was covered by warranty so I was happy enough, but less that 3 years on, it developed leaks in two places in the tank, one of which will be on youtube soon. Tried to fix the first of the leaks by re-attaching one of the fittings only to realise weeks later, that it was not leaking where the fitting screwed in, but from the outside of the metal piece that the fitting screwed in to. Meanwhile the leak ruined my termite barrier treatment, which will need to be redone. The second leak became apparent when I leaned against the unit making it lean ever so slightly, and water sprayed out of a hairline crack in the base of the tank. Built to replace every 4 years, if your lucky. How do the manufacturers sleep at night? Another problem became visible when I decommissioned it. I drained it so I could move it away, and a huge amount of jelly like orange goo came out of it. It was organic material growing inside the bottom of the tank, no doubt because it was not heating to the temperature required by Australian standards. Sickening to think we were showering in that. Anyhow, done with Dux, and forums indicated most other heat pumps are not a lot better, so went for a Bosch gas on-demand HWS. Cheaper to run, no tank, and teenagers can't use it all, leaving Dad to shower cold :)Hi Mark,
We are genuinely sorry this happened and look forward to resolving with you....
Read more So we can locate your details easier can you email through your full name (state this username as well), best contact number, address where the unit is installed, model number and serial number of the unit to [email protected]? Best Regards, The Dux TeamDear Dux Team, how is it you suddenly care? I published this review 4 years ago, and if you cared enough to read it, you'd know I have long since decommissioned the unit. It's carcass went to a metal recycler.
Apologies Mark for some reason this just popped up in our review inbox.
We had this heat pump installed approximately six years ago everything seamed to be working fine. Then about 18 months ago our fan and some kind of control board burn out . $500 later we thought our troubles would be over .We now noticed ice forming near the condenser. The service people ( $175 later ) told us that the tank had started to rust and leak and that the condenser was working over time to keep up so that means a new system required (and use heaps more power ). So to sum up not good enough cost of repairs is more than any electric savings thinking of switching to instant gas rather to than spend another $3500 a dux heat pump.

I noticed my Dux hot water system wasnt cutting back out and just ran non stop. Of course it is outside of DUX's 'voluntary' warranty however this is still unacceptable. i have to get up at 4am each morning, go to the power box and flick the hotwater fuse on and let it heat for a couple of hours to have a shower before work and then turn it back off again as if i dont, it just keeps on going. My power bills had been insane so i'm not sure how long this had been happening before i realised. I called DUX this morning after sussing out my rights w...

We have had this hot water system for 3 years and we have to have it repaired again now. It had to be repaired last September and now we do not have hot water again. The fan is not walking. I would advise everyone NOT TO BUY ONE. We had a Rheem heat pump at our last house and it never gave us any trouble

The most worse Hot Water System we've ever used, no hot water after only two short showers daily
My Partner & I moved into a Rental Property 6mths ago, because it was Summer, we didn't take notice of the Hot water as we normally used only cold/warm water. Even then the hot water we used lasted for two short showers during the day. Now that it is Winter, we get the same prob, two short showers during the day, then after 4 or 5pm, it doesn't heat up anymore. We cannot wash our dishes or use hot water for anything else during the day, forget after 5pm to do anything, no hot water at all!!!!!

I live in the colder area of NSW and nobody told me they did not perform well in cold areas - except every plumber I've spoken to since it started totally icing up, overheating water and pouring gallons of hot water out at regular intervals. Electricity bill went through the roof. Everyone says it's not worth the farting around to get fixed. So it's going, never to be replaced with anything that has Dux written on the side.
Much the same problems as everyone else: Purchased 16/01/2009
Faulty fan
Broken Hotlogic controller
Drain at top sitting to high to allow drainage, rust everywhere
Now split tank along weld seam, pin hole leaks all the way down
And from draining tank today, i'm guessing anodes perished
Have just found receipt so will be at place of purchase first thing in the morning to see what they've got to say, going by all these other reviews and comments from dux about it being just out of warranty i'll obviously be taking this to a next level, sh...

The system failed on the weekend and a friend who is an electrician had a look at it for us.
The power-board is taped to the top of the system and water has gathered in an odd pond like tray that holds the compressor. There is a drain hole with a tube but the hole is above the floor of the tray and the water cannot escape. this has caused corrosion and the ultimate failure of the board.
Is this a known problem and what does Dux do to remedy this problem?
The serial number is 080303102810 and has a manufacture date of 3/3/2008. The house was completed on 24/4/2009 so the unit has been operating for 6 years.

6yr old heat pump now starts giving brown water...nice! Looks as though the tank has started to rust out. Over $3500 to purchase originally, then 3x replaced thermostats and $450 for a faulty logic controller board. It seems like none of the R&D your company done has gone into how to make your products last longer and be better quality, but how to fail just out of warranty. Judging by the long list of unsatisfied customers on this site alone, shows the quality of your hot water systems has not improved over the years. Am I thinking about buying another one? What do you think Dux?

Read mores that they are sending a plumber to fix our hot water and it wouldn't cost us anything. That was wonderful news. Not long after he came and looked at it and said he doesn't have the parts he need to fix it but he said he'll put an element in it to give us hot water for the night and he'll come back to finish the job. Just like he said he came back the next day and fixed it. He new exactly what he was doing and I found this fella to be very honest and trustworthy. I asked him his honest opinion on the Dux Airoheat and he told me Dux has done a lot of improvements on the Airoheat system and he hasn't had any complaint from the improved models and he recommends this to his family and close friends. I believe him and if I need another electric hot water system I'll go Dux again.moved into property 5 months ago with this system in place .....manufactured in 2009 and already leaking water into the top of unit .....water getting into supposedly water proof circuit board control box......heat fan tripping out .....having to restart manually .....not good ......wont be purchasing a dux hot water system anytime soon

What a rip off. Just shy of 5 years and the control box got water in it and burnt out the fan controller part of the circuit board. Luckily, my plumber has seen a lot of these things go bad so he advised me just to put in a conventional heating element and bypass the heat exchanger. A couple of hundred bucks and back to T33 but it's a better option than throwing money at this piece of junk. And the sludge that came out of the tank when he opened it up was nauseating.
Back in 2010 with all the rebates the system ended up costing me about the ...

Would never get a Dux heat pump again. Mine is under 6 years old and the tank has split. All that Dux will say is that it is out of warranty so they cant do anything to help. Obviously their reputation means nothing to them.
From reading these posts others have also had problems.

I would not recommend one of these to anyone. To start with, it costs more to run that our prehistoric off peak heater it replaced. We've had to replace countless fan units at a couple hundred bucks a pop (the plumbing supply place laughs every time I mention I need a part for this particular heater) and the sacrificial anode is a nightmare to replace (and expensive and didn't last very long). In short, to anyone reading this review - DO NOT BUY THIS HOT WATER HEATER.

Read moremost as if the electricity providers designed this thing. It only ever seems to run during PEAK time (I go and turn it off sometimes to save $)This has broken down at least 5 times since 2008. I call the DUX 1300 number, once I got told there was no repairman in my area! Thanks DUX, another time the repairman lived an hour away and did not want to drive out to my place. He told me try a local repairman! Three times (fourth time today) I've had local tradesman out, but they both stated these systems were all the rage a few years ago, but now they are all breaking down. The problems I have found; 1. The plastic ties holding the power cord to the fan break, the fan blade then we...
Read morears away the power cord, and it shorts out. 2, the system is exposed to the elements, rain, dust, insects get in. Therefore the pan fills up, it dirty and therefore can not drain away. The drain is 2 - 3 mm above the bottom of the pan. therefore, dirt, water, etc are always in the bottom of the unit. 3. The drain pipe constantly fills with dirt etc, and to clean it you need to remove the whole cover. 4 My heat pump is noisy, it was installed next to a bedroom in my house. Because of the noise there is a constant humming sound in that room. 5. Because of the water drain issue, my unit floods when it rains, and the control box is submerged. (the system was installed by DUX). I have forgotten how many times I've cleaned it. 6. The fan blades have all peeled, so I also have a pile of powder coating in the bottom of the unit. When a DUX authorised repairman came out, he was good. He fixed the control box (loose connections). But told me it's on it's last legs and will need replacing. He was very helpful but basically from talking to him and the other tradies my decision is to get rid this system. I've spent about $800 - $1000 in tradies since 2008. Mostly, in the past 2 years. So I'm now looking for a new HWS, as I'm also renovating, so I'm now looking for two HSW, I can guarantee DUX WILL NOT be getting my business this time around!Hi Brad, We are sorry to hear of your experience, we would like to investigate this issue further, please email us at [email protected] with reference number PRW202, please include your 12 digit serial number.
