Works well...mild hum, screws rusting.
Works well, not sure about any improvements in power consumption as yet. Installed 6 months ago and external screws have rusted quite a lot. Not sure if this reflects the quality inside the unit. We are 200m from the beach.

Will never buy any other hot water system! Hydrotherm is the best!
Since September, 2014, I have had 3 Hydrotherm heat pumps installed at 3 different properties. They have outperformed two other well known brands which I will never have to use again and which I had ongoing problems with which could not be rectified, After researching, I found Hydrotherm and so glad I did - great cost savings and still working a treat. The other systems had numerous problems from the outset. Hydrotherm has not skipped a beat - perfect! When I need to replace other hot water systems, I will immediately go to Hydrotherm and recommend them without any reservations or hesitation! Cost savings in the capital outlay, the running costs and electricity savings.

Nice product... But
The plastic lugs that make the insulation hidden within the tank popped out, and it doesn't look great. I suspect this would have a simple solution, but I think it spoils an otherwise good product thus far. Still need yet to see if it is more efficient than off peak meter, or if it can be used on that meter. That information would be good to know based on tests.

Very reliable system
Have not had any problems with this heater, and we do not have solar so it does not cost a lot to run.
Only thing I found it is a bit loud when it comes on at night.

Just a bit of advice, we’d still strongly recommend that set the system onto ECON mode (effectively the timer mode) even if you don’t have solar and two people in your household. The reason being is that the system will run considerably more efficient during the day (the in-built factory timers are set to run between 10:00 16:00) but also it won’t run at night. Having the system run on ECON mode won’t affect you running out of hot water, especially if you have only two people in your household. Please give us a call on 1300 769 904 if you need help with the setting the modes. Kind Regards, The Hydrotherm TeamSimilar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Runs on the smell of an oily rag
Cannot believe how good this hot water system turned out to be. In the first quarter after (winter) installation my electricity bill went down by over $250. Household of 4 adults.
I don’t have solar power, just full-tariff regular QLD electricity. I also haven’t bothered to fiddle with settings yet to make it only run in daytime (when more heat is in air). Tweaking winter run times would probably cost me even less!?
Noise of fan running isn’t as loud as people made out. Fist few nights I could faintly notice it. Now, I never do.
Only downside is how expensive tradies are - plumber to install. Around $1300.
Purchased in August 2021 for $1,695.00.

We’d just like to comment on a couple of things. First of all, we would definitely recommend that you do set the system in the ECON mode to take advantage of the timers. As you stated, running the system during the day, especially during the winter, will result in further savings. The easiest way to make sure the system is running with the best settings is to give us a call on 1300 769 904 when you’ve got a spare minute at home. Secondly, we’re sorry to hear you had a bad experience with the third party installer. Installation costs are a bit of a tricky one for even us to comment on, as you’re aware there are many factors involved in installation. If you did want to discuss this further, please send us an email to [email protected] or give us a call on 1300 769 904. Kind Regards, The Hydrotherm TeamSimilar opinion? Efficient hot water system Thornlands QLD
There's many reason why you would buy a Hydrotherm. Local Australian company, the unit is made of 304 stainless steel inside and out. We saved about $1000 a year in power compared to the old electric hot water system, that's a huge saving. We had some issues that the guys from Hydrotherm fixed for us. Unfortunately we had one problem they couldn't fix which is a leak from the compressors condenser tray. This is a major issue as you have constant water leaking next to the foundations of your house, if you have a concrete slab house like us, then...Read more
over time this can cause structural issues. Ultimately we will now have to replace this unit. Overall a good unit, with some flaws that cause the early death of this hot water system. Joe from Thornlands QLDPurchased in October 2021.

Cheap Hot Water
We have had our new Hydrotherm hot water unit for nearly six months and think it's great. It heats the water for a fraction of the cost of our old hot water unit, which was set up on a night tariff that wasn't much cheaper than the day tariff. The new hot water unit uses a lot less power than the old unit, and combined with being able to run it only during the day when we are producing our own electricity it's even cheaper. It provides our family of four with plenty of hot water, even with teenage kids who loose all concept of time in the showe...Read more
r. The guys at Hydrotherm were great to deal with and delivered the hot water unit on our requested day. The new hot water unit is a little noisier than we had expected, but it doesn't seem to be any louder than the air-conditioning unit next to it. We'd definitely look at buying another Hydrotherm hot water unit if we moved house and the new place didn't have one.Purchased in July 2021 for $1,845.00.

Hi Brent,
Thanks for posting your feedback of our system. We appreciate the honest review. ... Read more
In your situation where you have only two people in your household, you should expect the system to take approximately 1-3 hours per day for the system to recover under normal circumstances. If the system is taking longer than that, it could be a couple of things: 1. There may be a potential leak of hot water in your house. 2. Your taps/appliances/shower heads may not be as efficient as they could be. 3. The system may have an issue. If the system is taking excessive amount of time to heat per day (over 4 hours), please get in touch with us on 1300 769 904. Ideally call us when the system is actually running, we can easily diagnose potential issues using the live readings. Kind Regards, The Hydrotherm Team.Similar opinion? Reliable and Efficient
We have had a hydrotherm on our house for over 5 years. It has been very reliable and efficient. I recently purchased two more for a development I did. My tenants should save a lot of money on their electricity!
I really want to give these units 5 stars, but the only reason I can't is that the new ones are quite noisy compared to the older ones - the fan appears to spin a lot faster which is not ideal where houses are on very close proximity. Not sure if fan speed can be adjusted?
If noise isn't an issue, then I recommend you buy one.
Purchased in July 2021 for $1,600.00.

Happy Hydrotherm customer!
Our house came with a Hydrotherm Heat Pump when we purchased it, which lasted many years. We had the Dynamic system installed in late June and this is our bill for the 3 months since. Huge reduction of 33% less than same time last year and is clearly reducing energy consumption as the weather is heating up. This is great proof of Hydrotherms efficiency. The larger 275L tank is suitable for our family of 4 and we havent had any issues with with hot water supply or temperatures during peak usage times. If it was a little less noisy during pump times it would be a 5 star rating.

Great value for money
I came to know about Heat Pumps from a Facebook group named: My efficient energy home. Heat Pump are praised on the group for helping improving significantly energy efficiency of homes. So I started my own investigation by monitoring my power usage using a standard Electric Hot Water System (Rinnai). I observed (using my solar inverter data) that the hot water system was using a lot of power in the colder winter months in Brisbane, 3.6kW for several hours a day. This could mean easily 10-12kWh a day was used to keep my water hot. This exceeded ...Read more
my solar generation capacity and drained significant power from my battery system at times where solar generation wasn't great. On cloudy day, it could totally drain my battery and leave me using grid energy for the entire night. I compared several product reviews and came to the conclusion Hydrotherm was one of the best product available for value for money. Since installation, it has worked perfectly, reducing my consumption for hot water to a mere 3-4kWh (maximum about 800wh) using renewable heat and it allowed me to ensure I was not consuming power from the grid at times when solar generation wasn't great. I no longer had situation where the battery was completely drained by the huge power need of a regular electric hot water system. The noise level generated by the Hydrotherm is noticeable and comparable to a air conditioning unit however for me it wasn't an issue since the unit is located away from bedrooms and is working only during the day when sun is shining and we're out of the house. An improvement to the product could be by using CO2 as a refrigerant to limit potential impacts at the end of life of the product or if leaks as the refrigerant used has a high global warming potential (powerful green house gas - R410a. The product warranty is generous. My Electric Hot Water System was 2 yo when I installed the heat pump. Some people suggested that it is best to wait until the system needs to be replaced but I preferred to upgrade immediately due to the relatively quick payback due to savings on running power for the heat pump versus the electric hot water system (6-8 kWh a day), the fact that it would help preserve the capacity of my solar battery longer and lastly that I will further avoid consuming grid power and help reducing emission. In my case, I was able to re-sell quickly the electric hot water system as used which lowered the investment cost.Purchased in July 2021.

Great before sales service. Works well, good controls.
I read extensively about heat pumps after one was recommended by a supplier. After narrowing down to a few choices based on good reputation, I found that the Hydrotherm unit was the right balance of quality, reputation and price. I contacted them directly for further information such as install location and orientation, and they happily provided it. The most memorable part was their history of detailed technical engagement on the Whirlpool forums, which was key to making a decision. The unit has worked fine since installation.

The ability to reduce electricity costs and maintain desired hot-water volumes meets with today's expectations.
We are standard 4 adult family; with additional family members at various times and this unit has the capacity to provide excellent resources at required water temperatures.
All this at less than 25% of the cost of identical hot water supplies of the past.

Great energy efficient system
We have had our Hydrotherm system now for 6 months as it came recommended by our plumber and as yet have had no issues with the supply of hot water (unless I have way too long a shower in the morning before it starts to heat again at 10am)!
We have ours set on ECON mode to take advantage of our solar system and this has seen a big reduction in our power bill, some mention the noise of the system but it’s no louder than our neighbours split system aircon unit so doesn’t bother us!

I am impressed
The HydroTherm unit successfully reduced our power bills by a significant margin (despite having teenage children). We have had the system for 6 years and in that time there have been three issues requiring repair. However they were quickly handled by HydroTherm under warranty. This week we had another issue (we are out of warranty). While it took HydroTherm a week to respond (the system was working just leaking water) but they came out, repaired the system and performed a service free of charge. Very pleased with their support.

Great system
I've programmed my system to reheat during the middle of the day using solar power.
It's a very economical system.
We've never had a problem with not having enough hot water.
We bought one because of all the positive things my son in law told me about his and we haven't been disappointed.
Our system is inside the garage, it could be considered noisy if outside near a bedroom

Hi. We have a hydrotherm system but over the last few days the alarm keeps going off continually, creating complaints from our neighbours. The water still heats but the alarm will not stop.

Hi,
Oddly enough just days after I posted my review I've had a problem with my Hydrotherm Volt unit. The alarm kept going off and annoying my neighbours. On the control panel (lower right hand of the screen) where the temperature normally is - you'll see a number A1 - A5. These are the Alarm Error Codes. Check which alarm error code you're getting and then call Hydrotherm and they'll be abel to advise on the best solution. I had an A5 last week and it was quite easy to reset the Low/High Pressure switch which has fixed that problem. However, I've since discovered there is a leak in the tank. I contacted Hydrotherm to activate the Warranty and while the contact staff have been fantastic the people looking after the Warranty have been less obliging. They demanded various photos, the original Credit Card receipt from 5 years ago, the original Solar Certificate and so on. Luckily I managed to find these documents but it appears the 15 years Warranty has so many exclusions I may have trouble getting it replaced or fixed under their service agreement. I'll keep you posted.

Hi Braj,
Thank you for leaving a review of your Hydrotherm system. ... Read more
As you’re already aware, there are two different modes that that the system can run on which are AUTO mode and ECON mode. AUTO mode works by having the Hydrotherm start to heat as soon as the water temperature drops below 50C, regardless of the time of the day. ECON mode works in a similar way with the system starting to heat when the water temperature drops below 50C, expect this will only occur between the timer periods. The factory default timer period is from 10:00 to 16:00. So what we’d recommended if you wanted to run the system more efficiently, is to extend the timer periods of the ECON mode. Doing so will mean that the system has enough time to recover for your 4 person household but also avoid the colder periods of the day when the system will run comparatively less efficiently. The easiest way to do this is just to give us a call on 1300 769 904 when you’re in front of your system next. Hope this helps. Kind Regards, The Hydrotherm Team.
