We have noticed Orange / Rusty coloured water coming from the hot water taps mainly in the mornings. We have a full copper cold water service. The orange / rust colour is not evident every morning. My wife normally has a bath about 10.30pm most evenings, and the water is not turned on again until the morning,. So we assume that when the tank is refilling after using hot water that is when this orange / rust coloured water is occurring. We had Sydney Water check our cold water supply and they could not notice any discoloured water. They even disconnected the house from the main stop cock and ran the water for at least 10 minutes. So does anyone know what is causing this problem, and is it a potential health problem. Regards, Dennis - Croydon - Sydney

Hi Dennis,

From the information given, unfortunately it seems that the tank is beginning to rust. Given the age of the unit, we would suggest replacement with another heat pump or a 250L electric storage unit.

Hi Wayne,

Thanks for your question.

The dual outlets allow flexibility to connect separate hot lines to the bathrooms as well as to the kitchen/laundry areas.

Have an issue with the fan running continuously. No leaks in hot water system and no constant drips from the relief valve. I can see fluid moving in the compressor sight glass. The Hotlogic controller has a steady green and red led which states it is operating correctly. The system produces hot water but I'm sure the power usage is going through the roof with the fan on all the time. The only thing I could think would be a stuck relay contact but can't find any wiring diagrams to check. Any ideas gratefully received.

I inherited a dux airheat system when I purchased this house in early 2016
The system was registered in 2009
I never ever hear a noise from it
I have continuous hot water
But
I have never noticed the fan working

Should I be concerned ?

Fan does not work all the time but when it is heating water it should be going. Probably best to get it serviced given age but in our view Dux products are poor quality and getting service help from them is worse.

I had an sparky here since I posted this and we decided that since it heats water we will leave it alone
In the 2 years I’ve lived here the fan has never moved
And given its age it appears to be doing well
Thank you for your response

You need to turn the temperature modulation valve, turn it anticlockwise all the way out, . This valve mixes hot water and cold water to give a safe temperature

The thing is a piece of crap ..you need to ditch it asap for the health of your family.. just buy a standard element type hot water system .. a current affair need to do a story on this hotwater system ..yes i am a plumber

Mine is doing the same - have you found a solution by any chance?

Rob
Rob

Thank you for your replies. The solution, according to my local hot water person, is to convert it to a normal electric hotwater system. It is possible to do it with this model for about $180. He said it is not worth repairing as an air pump system, too expensive, and may break down again. So I am going to convert it.

I have the model stated, all around the condensate overflow hose at the top of the unit, water is running down the side of the system onto the ground, I have disconnected the hose and it is clear so the condensate drain is not blocked. Why is the water running all down the side or the system. No rain contributing ?

1 answer
Andy
Andy

Hi, I have the same problem. It's a crappy design issue. The drain hole for the condensation is in a crap position and also blocks up super quick and so the condensation generated by the heat pump just runs out over the top. There's not much you can do unless you want to remove the top every month or so and try to clean it out.

I have a dud aeroheat. It was gushing hot water from the copper release pipe. I had an electrician replace the valve. Now it is constantly making a noise in the top section. Any ideas?

More details are needed to give you a relevant answer.
How old is your system?
Is the noise from the heat pump system on top of the tank or the tank itself? Are you able to describe the noise - a recording would be good.
Under what conditions does the noise happen?

desleymunck
desleymunck

HI It is a Dux Aeroheat D2FH00000C 258 Ltr and the noise is coming from the top section that sits above the tank. The noise is constant and the motor runs continously. It would only come on I assumed when the system was heating but we had a big rain a week or so ago and the system began to play up. Firstly, hot water was continuously coming out of a copper pipe that is above a drain. The electrician came out and replaced the relief valve I think. Since then the section on top has run continuously. I will try to send you sound recording but I'm not sure how to attach it here. The year on the system is 01/04/2009.

Philip

Have you found a solution to the problem? The compressor/fan should stop running once the water has reached the set temperature. If it didn't stop running it indicates a problem with the sensor or the controller itself. Since the unit is now 7 yrs old, it won't be surprising that could be the issue, seeing the problems that others have been reporting with this model. My unit is 1 yr younger than yours and the controller board was replaced within a few months of installation. Although the compressor worked flawlessly since the board replacement, the tank started leaking a couple of months ago. When the tank was drained, there was a lot of rust and sludge that came out. I've replaced the whole system.

I've had one of the recommended service guys come out to look at my dux airoheat service and apparently there needs to be a new board 3202 installed which will cost about $465. The system is about 7 years old. I haven't had any problems with it previously until I found it not working after returning from holidays and my clipsal power switch was off and even after switching on the hot water didn't come on. Is it worthwhile getting it fixed or should I be looking at a new system?

Hi James,
Replacing your hot water system will be much more expensive then repairing/replacing the hotlogic. If you can contact us on 1300 365 115 we can see who we recommend in your area to see what quotes they have as well.

Thanks Dux After Sales.

I went away for a month and found the dux airoheat hot water service isn't working. (I also noticed that my clipsal circuit breaker had trigerred at some point and turned power off.) I've reset that but no hot water. Any ideas?

Dux H.Dux

Hi James,

If you have turned the power back on then it should automatically start up. Not starting up indicated the hot water system has faulted - causing it to trip the power.
If you contact Dux on 1300 365 115 - option 2 we can advise you further.

One negative with these units, apart from the fact that the tanks that do not last much past their warranty, and Dux is no where to be seen to offer any sort of assistance let alone a discount on a replacement, is that they can not be left on while the household is on holidays for long periods, unless you have house sitter using hot water.

As with others, my Dux Airoheat, just over 6 years old, is also supplying brown hot water-on contacting Dux helpline, was told to have plumber flush the tank-plumber did so and as with others, we saw litres of rusty gunk discharged from the tank-the plumber's opinion was that the vitreous enameled tank had failed, after only 6 years!! What consumer rights do we have in this situation-the Dux HWS costs around $4,000?

The small copper pipe at the top my aero heat system is dripping continuously why would that be.?

Hi Shadow,

Is it coming from a valve or a pipe coming from the back of the unit?
If it is the back its possibly from the condensation drain.

During this winter season, hot water only be used during showering about 10-15 minutes every day so not high use of hot water. I moved to current property about 7 months and the heater was functioning well before. Now the heater is not working well, only generate warm water like 25 something degrees. Anything you can offer to help me fix this problem? It's an URGENT problem, no hot water during these cold days you know.... Please help and reply as soon as possible. Thank you.

Hi Sidi, In my experience with various plumbers, electricians and refrigeration mechanics to solve my problem, I have learnt to go on the DUX After sales service which you can find on google. They have plumbers and electricians that work for them in your area (need to put in your postcode). It will be easier for them to communicate between the trades people and after sales service to solve your problem. It sounds like what happened with mine soon after warranty (5 years) and they gave me a partial warranty and replaced the unit because it was faulty. I had to pay for installation of the unit but they organised the delivery and installation of the unit. Hope this helps. Good luck and hope you get hot water soon!
