I've got a 2009 unit that is supplying brown hot water? Sounds like I should look at a replacement and not even bothering to go through DUX.. Wow it cost is thousands and been installed for just over 5 years.. That's ridiculous.. Has anyone else had rusty water??

Could be the anode, which is replaceable - although expensive (no surprise) and a pain in butt to replace. Still cheaper than a new heater I suppose. You can order the anode through a plumbing supply store (Reece etc). Then you need to take the whole top cover off so you can get to the stupidly placed anode cover. Get a big ratchet with the right sized socket on it and some big muscles and if you're lucky it'll come out. Then screw the new one back in and you might get a bit more life out of it.

Hi Andy, thanks for the heads up. I will organise the part today. Due to the fact that the water is only slightly discoloured it's worth a shot. Cheers Karen

Had some rusty looking water coming from near the top of my system and had a guy out to check it this week. He flushed out the system. I was astounded as many litres of brown gunk came out of the tank. Unfortunately after flushing my little bit of water became an unrepairable major leak. The system is 5 years and 9 months old. The mechanical part of the system has never missed a beat but because the tank has split I now have a very expensive piece of junk. The guy who came out also said that the anode should be replaced at 5 years. If the tank is showing no signs of leak try flushing the tank and replacing the anode. From reading on here many tanks seem to fail just after the warranty expires at 5 years.

The most disappointing product I have ever had the displeasure to buy. Being on a disability pension it has eaten into my pension with the hot water failing just about every 6 months for up to a fortnight before I can scrap some money together to get it fixed.
In 5 years, I have had to replace 3 thermostats and today I've got no hot water again.
I have contacted the DUX help line previously, only to told by the customer service representative that it could be faulty due to high use; Unfortunately her excuse and help went no where when I told her I'm home alone with a 9 year old and he hasn't had a bath in 3 years (only showers) ... no big family or useage.
My dilemna is that this DUX AIROHEAT is a money pit and replacement is out of the question.
Should I fix it or replace it - The later means 2.5 years of debt ?

Hi Lewis - I really feel for you. How annoying it is to be constantly worried about whether or not you have hot water. And to be told by Dux that you have been using too much hot water is not only ridiculous but an insult to you. The best thing that you could possibly do is to not waste one more cent on Dux or any of their parts or products. Do a search for Sanden Heat Pump on the internet and find your local supplier. Get them to come out and take away the Dux [don't even have any more contact with Dux for your own sanity]. It may be possible to have a finance deal with your local Sanden supplier. And Sanden are whisper quiet. Get rid of the Dux Lewis as soon as possible. Embrace the 2.5 years of debt it might take to pay a new Sanden off because it will be such a load of frustration and worry off your mind you'll never look back. Hot water should not be a major issue in anyone's life. Just bite the bullet Lewis and get a Sanden and totally end this Dux nightmare.

I would get it fixed, If possible look at getting instant gas hot water, small units are cheap and very reliable.

what happens if the fan keeps shut but the system appears to heat the water still? Is it only more consumption of power (without the help of the fan working) or is it harmful to the system in the long run? I am considering to leave it as it is till the one day it can no longer heat the water when i can simply replace with a new standard unit. Simply cannot afford paying all the time just fixing problems

Hi Dynamix, if the fan is not running, your system would be running on the compressor. Dux Manufacturing Limited would not recommend you keeping the system running this way. If you would like to discuss further, please call 1300 365 115 - option 2.

In reply to your question Dynamix, short answer - yes the system will still heat the water in the short term as it did with our Dux. The fan is required to assist the condenser similar to that of an air conditioner unit. In the long run it may affect the operation of the system and may consume more power without it! It may be advisable to speak to either a Dux consultant or an experienced technician (plumber) for further information/advice. I understand your problem and empathise with your concern. As our system is only 4 yrs old and had already experienced those issues listed, the Dux consultant after much negotiation agreed to our request of replacing those parts at no cost, minus the labour. Let me know how you get on?

re fan not working, but compressor is. Plumber told me that the fan is to stop the evaporator tubes/fins from icing up as fan draws air through them.I believe that the 'hotlogic' control box on my 2008 model was subject to recall, as it was replaced free of charge in 2010.. - in that case the compressor worked but fan did not, (red/green lights both on). Could be other problem with fan - make sure it rotates freely.

When I turn the hot water tap on there has been no water at all. This has happened twice so far. But when we have used the cold water it works fine. Have checked valves & no water was released. After some time the water returns. Its like the system has run out of water then needs to refill????

Hi Jennie, dont even bother contacting Dux, it is a complete waste of time, they will only tell you what you already know, and will in no way help you. I think that what you need to do is contact a plumber.

Hi Kerry, most major plumbing supplies have an account with Dux where if they did not have a part they would be able to order one in. If you would like to email me your suburb and postcode to [email protected] I can advise you stores in your area that supply our parts.

Tradelink Plumbing keep spare parts. In mission beach we paid $127.75. that included GST. We got a price from sunshine coast shop and they wanted $199.95 and then they wanted some crazy price for postage.

Pays to shop around.
